Snatching gold bars: 5 Feni DB officials remanded again
A court in Feni on Wednesday placed five suspended DB officials on a 3-day remand again in a case over snatching 20 gold bars from a businessman on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway on August 8.
They are sub-inspectors Motaher Hossain, Mizanur Rahman, Nurul Haque and assistant sub-inspectors Abhijit Barua and Masud Rana.
The court of Feni Senior Judicial Magistrate Kamrul Hasan passed the order after investigation officer of the case Monir Hossain produced the accused before seeking a 7-day remand for them after expiry of their three-day remand.
They were initially remanded for three days on August 11, said Golam Jilani, a police inspector posted at Feni court.

DB inspector Md Saiful Islam Bhuyian is currently on a 4-day remand in the same case and is scheduled to be produced before the court within the next few days.
Besides, a source within Feni Police requesting anonymity told UNB that the investigation of the case has been handed over to the Police Bureau of investigation (PBI).
However, a separate source claimed that no official letter has been issued over the matter yet.
Contacted, Deputy Inspector General Of Police, Chattogram Range Anwar Hossain said, “ An application has been sent to the court seeking its order to transfer the case to PBI. Final decision on the matter would be made upon receiving the court’s directive.”
Six sleuths of the detective branch of Feni police were arrested on Tuesday night for allegedly robbing a businessman of 20 gold bars worth Tk 1.24 crore.

Some 15 of the 20 looted gold bars have been recovered from the possession of the accused, police said on Wednesday.
However, the remaining 5 gold bars were not recovered as of filing this report on Saturday night.
Khandaker Nurunnabi, superintendent of Feni police, said the arrests were made following a complaint against them by businessman Gopal Kanti Das.
As per the complaint, the six detectives intercepted Gopal's car on the road under Fatehpur flyover on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway while he was on his way to Dhaka with 20 gold bars on August 8.
Later, the accused looted the gold bars from Gopal and left the spot.
A robbery case was filed against the six at the Feni model police station.

Those arrested have been identified as detective branch officer-in-charge Saiful Islam, three sub-inspectors -- Motaher Hossain, Mizanur Rahman and Nurul Haque -- and two assistant sub-inspectors, Avijit Barua and Masud Rana.
Khandaker Nurunnabi, superintendent of Feni police, said the arrests were made in the wake of a complaint against them by businessman Gopal Kanti Das.
As per the complaint, the six detectives intercepted Gopal's car on the road under Fatehpur flyover on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway while he was on his way to Dhaka with 20 gold bars on August 8.

Later, the accused sleuths looted the gold bars from Gopal and left the spot.
On Tuesday, Gopal approached the SP of Feni police and a subsequent investigation found the six policemen prima facie guilty of robbery. They were arrested around 11.30pm.
A robbery case has been filed against the six at the Feni model police station.
Cattle trader refuses to pay protection money, shot dead in Feni
A cattle trader was shot dead allegedly by a local ward councillor for refusing to pay protection money in Feni's Sultanpur area on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Shahjalal, 27, son of Abdul Jabbar of Saguli village under Karimganj in Kishoreganj district.

Police said Shahjalal had parked a truck loaded with 15 cows in front of his house for sale. When local councillor Abul Kalam demanded protection money, he flatly refused to pay.
Later Abul and and three of his associates held Shahjalal hostage before allegedly killing him and dumping the body in a nearby pond.

Cops subsequently recovered the body and sent it to the Feni General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Feni Model Police Station Inspector Nizam Uddin said that they have launched a probe. "One person, named Sagar, has been arrested in connection with the murder," he said.
Woman gives birth to quadruplets in Feni
A woman gave birth to four children in Feni’s Haider Clinic on Monday afternoon.
The newborns’ mother Salma Akter, is the wife of Alam Patwari of GMhat Union under Fulgazi Upazila who is an expatriate.
They already have a four-year-old boy.

Salma’s brother-in-law Anwar Hossain Patwari said the doctor had asked the asrerival children earlier through ultrasonography but she eventually gave birth to four.
Dr. Tahmina Sultana Nilu, who operated caesarean sections confirmed that the mother and four newborns were all healthy and sound.
She said they were kept under observation.

Nurul Afsar Forkan, the manager of the hospital, said that they were shifted to a cabin to avoid people from different places gathering to see them.
6 killed by lightning strikes in Feni, Chattogram
Six people were killed and two others injured by lightning strikes in Chattogram and Feni districts on Sunday.
In Chattogram, four people including two women were killed and two others injured as thunderbolt struck them in Fatikchhari, Boalkhali and Mirsarai upazilas of the district in the morning.

Lucky Das, 38, wife of Banuswar Das and Bhanu Sheel, 40, wife of Jugendra Sheel of Kanchannagar Dulurpara in Fatikchhari upazila, were killed and two others injured being hit by lightning while they were working at a field during rain around 11 am, said Kanchannagar union parishad member Afsar Uddin.
The injured women identified as Maloti rani Das, 50, wife of Mantosh Dash and Shobha Rani Dey, 45, wife of Bhuban Dey were taken to Abdul Monayem General Hospital.
Besides, Sazzad Hossain, 16, son of Mosharraf Hossain of East Domkhali village in Mirsarai upazila was killed by lightning strike while he was working at a field with his father.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Jahangir, 39, a day labourer, was killed by lightning strike in Boalkhali upazila in the morning.
In Feni, two people including a minor boy were killed when a thunderbolt struck them at Alampur village in Sonagazi upazila in the morning.

The deceased were identified as Sazeda Akter Sathi, 15, a madrasha student and daughter of Soleman of Alampur village and Al Amin, 6, and son of Mohammad Bahar of Charsahabikari village in the upazila.
A streak of thunderbolt hit them while they went to the Feni River amid rain, said Ishak Khokon, chairman of Bagadana Union.
Madrasa teacher in Feni sexually assaulted 11-year-old student
A madrasa teacher in Daganbhuiyan upazila of Feni has been accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old student.
Victim’s mother on Thursday filed a case against the accused Saidur Rahman at Dagonbhuiyan police station.
Saidur was a teacher of Al Jamiatul Islamia Abdul Ibn Abbas (RA) madrasa and was hailing from Sylhet.

Officer-in-Charge of Dagonbhuiyan police station Imtiaj Ahmed said, "On March 30 Saidur allegedly raped the victim and threatened him not to tell anyone."
The victim disclosed the incident when his parents tried to send him back to madrasa after the Eid vacation.
When the parents informed the matter to the Madrasa principal, accused Saidur fled.

The victim was sent to hospital for medical tests, said the OC
Efforts are ongoing to arrest the accused, said police.
Feni cop suspended over scuffle with youth during lockdown
A sub-inspector of Feni Model Police Station, who was seen involved in a scuffle with a young man in a viral video footage, has been suspended.
Additional Superintendent of Police Mainul Islam said SI Jashomanto Majumdar has been closed to the district police lines over the issue on Monday night.

In the video clip record of 3 minute 38 seconds, it is seen that a rickshaw passenger locked into an altercation with some policemen while police halted the rickshaw in front of Feni Model High School during the countrywide lockdown.
The police members including SI Jashomanto intercepted the young man and asked the reason of coming out from home without wearing a mask.
At one stage, the policemen were seen forcing the youth to get down from the rickshaw.
Feni imam loses job for conducting prayer session for Khaleda
An imam of a Feni mosque has been laid off for conducting a prayer session for Covid-infected Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Imam Merajul Islam was fired "following suggestions of respected elders of the locality and ruling party leaders for conducting a prayer session for Khaleda Zia," Shonamiah Mestori Bari Jame Mosque managing committee president Nurul Afsar said on Sunday.
Md Shahid, BNP organising secretary of Paschim Fazilpur's ward 7 in Feni Sadar upazila, hosted the prayer session at the mosque on April 12, and the imam lost his job the following day.
The laid-off imam Merajul said he verbally heard about the decision on Saturday.

"As Md Shahid hosted the prayer session for Khaleda Zia, I served my duty as the imam of the mosque. During the prayer session, I prayed for Khaleda Zia, Sheikh Hasina and all the Covid-19 affected people of the country. But some ruling party men got mad at me as I mentioned Khaleda Zia's name."
Feni district unit BNP convener Sheikh Farid Bahar and member secretary Alal Uddin Alal strongly condemned the incident saying, "The imam has been fired unjustly."
Meanwhile, the health condition of Khaleda Zia, who was infected with Covid-19, has improved a little bit as her temperature is showing a declining trend, her medical team head Dr FM Siddiqui said on Saturday night.
Stating that the BNP chief's Covid infection entered the ninth day on Saturday, he said, "She is now passing through a complicated time. We'll take the necessary steps immediately if we get any danger signal or deterioration in her condition. As of now, we think, everything is fine."

On April 10, the BNP chief underwent the Covid-19 test as eight other people at her residence were infected with the virus and her report came out positive.
Amid the coronavirus outbreak, the government freed Khaleda Zia from jail for six months through an executive order suspending her sentences on March 25 last year. Later, the government extended her release twice.
Feni youth held under DSA for 'defaming' PM on Facebook
A Feni youth was handed over to police Monday and was arrested under the Digital Security Act (DSA) for "defaming" Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in a Facebook post.
Nurul Afsar, 26, is from Feni's Amirabad union and works as a bank office assistant in Janata Bank.
Feni upazila Secha Sebok League President Faruk Hossain took him to the police at 8pm for "defaming and tarnishing the image of the head of government."

"On March 26, a Facebook page called 'AJ Limon Juktorajjo BNP' made an 'offensive' post about the prime ministers of Bangladesh and India. The accused wrote defamatory words about the prime ministers while commenting on that post," he said.
As Faruk came across the post, he handed over Afsar to Sonagazi Model Police Station and also filed a case against him under the Digital Security Act in connection with the incident, Sajedul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sonagazi Model Police Station, confirmed.
