Kushtia hospital sees 8 new Covid deaths
Kushtia General Hospital on Wednesday morning reported eight more Covid-related deaths in 24 hours amid an alarming surge in the number of new infections in the district.
Of the deceased, six were confirmed Covid patients while the remaining two showed symptoms of the virus, said Dr MA Momen, administrator of Kushtia General Hospital.

Besides, 189 people have tested positive for corona in the district in the past 24 hours. "A total of 681 samples were tested during the period," he said.
The positivity rate currently stands at 28.42%, which was 33.89% a day before.

Moreover, a total of 194 patients are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital with Covid symptoms.
Dr Momen, however, said there is no oxygen crisis in the hospital at present. "Now on, it will be possible to refill upto 100 oxygen cylinders in Kushtia itself on a daily basis."

Kushtia Civil Surgeon HM Anwarul Islam said that many patients died in the district hospitals before their test reports came. "One of the reasons being people not obeying the Covid-safety protocols and restrictions," he said.
So far, 7,726 people have contracted Covid in the district, while the death toll from the virus currently stands at 202. A total of 5,485 people have recovered to date.

Besides, 180 people have tested positive for corona in the district in the past 24 hours. "A total of 545 samples were tested during the period," he said.
The positivity rate currently stands at 33.89%. Moreover, a total of 196 patients are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital with Covid symptoms.

Kushtia Civil Surgeon HM Anwarul Islam said that many patients died in the district hospitals before their test reports came.
So far, 7,537 people have contracted Covid in the district, while the death toll from the virus currently stands at 198.

Kushtia General Hospital reported nine more Covid-19 related deaths in 24 hours until 9 am on Monday amid an alarming surge in infections and deaths in different parts of the country.
Among the deceased, seven were Covid positive while the remaining had symptoms, said Dr MA Momen, administrator of Kushtia General Hospital.

Besides, 172 people came out positive in 445 tests in the district in the last 24 hours.
A total of 183 patients are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital with Covid symptoms.
So far, 7,357 people have been infected with the virus in the district and the death toll from the virus reached 189.

A total of 5,340 people have recovered to date.
Dr MA Momen said the hospital staff are struggling to handle the rising number of number of Covid patients .
There is a possibility of oxygen crisis in the hospital, he said adding that most of the admitted patients provided with oxygen support.

Meanwhile, a circular has been issued to extend the ongoing lockdown in Kushtia district till July 1.
Earlier on June 20, the lockdown was imposed in Kushtia district till June 27.
Covid-19: 1.5-month-old in Kushtia gets infected
A one and half month-old child on Tuesday tested positive for Covid-19 in Kushtia.Kushtia General Hospital (KGH) doctors say this was the first Covid-19 case in the district found in such a young body.The child was brought to the hospital by his parents with a cold and fever. Hospital Superintendent Dr MA Momen said the child was admitted to the hospital's children's ward on Monday with a cold and fever.The on-duty doctors suspected Covid-19 symptoms and collected samples for testing, the same day.

On Tuesday, the PCR lab report showed that the child tested positive for Covid-19 virus.Iftekhar Hasan, an on-duty doctor at the hospital's corona ward, said they had never seen Covid-19 virus identified in the body of such a young child.The child was being given necessary treatment at the corona ward, he said. Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, five more people died of coronavirus in KGH.

Kushtia enters week of strict lockdown till June 27
As the Covid-19 situation keeps worsening, a weeklong strict lockdown has been imposed in Kushtia district till June 27.
The lockdown went into effect at midnight, said a mass notification issued by the district’s Deputy Commissioner Md Saidul Islam.

According to the notice, all commercial institutions, factories, shops, shopping malls, restaurants and tea-stalls are ordered to remain closed during the lockdown.
However, kitchen markets and shops selling daily commodities can stay open following the health guidelines from 7am to 2pm except the cattle markets.
Besides, tourist spots, resorts, community centers, and recreation centers are ordered to remain shut during this time.
All inter-district and long distance public transport services will remain suspended during the lockdown period.
Law enforcement and other emergency services will be exempted from the public transport restriction, said the notice.

People are advised to stay home except for emergency needs, to wear masks and follow health rules during movement.
The decisions were taken during an emergency virtual meeting of the district's Covid-19 prevention committee.
Earlier, the district administration in two phases imposed restrictions only within the Kushtia municipal area from June 11.
Meanwhile 9 more people died of coronavirus in the district in the past 24 hours.
Of them eight died in Kushtia General Hospital and One in Khoksa Upazila Health Complex.

Besides, 83 more tested positive 256 sample tests, according to a handout provided by the district administration on Sunday night.
Considering the alarming turn of the situation, Kushtia General Hospital with 250 beds has been decided to turn into Covid-19 dedicated hospital.
Week-long restrictions imposed in Mirpur amid Covid surge
Local authorities have imposed strict restrictions in the Mirpur municipal area of Kushtia district for a week to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.
The restrictions came into force at 6am on Thursday, and will continue till June 23.

At an emergency meeting of the Corona Preventive Committee on Wednesday, Mirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Linkon Biswas took the decision to impose the restrictions in the area in view of a sudden surge in Covid cases.
All standalone shops and markets, except the kitchen markets and local pharmacies, will remain closed during the week-long restrictions. Anyone found violating health protocols will be penalised.

The health authorities on Wednesday recorded 98 fresh cases in the district in 24 hours after testing 239 samples.
So far, 5,834 people have contracted coronavirus in the district, said Kushtia Civil Surgeon Dr AHM Anwarul Islam.
Off-duty ASI held after publicly killing 3, including 'wife'
An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police has been arrested after publicly shooting three people dead on Sunday, including a woman said to be his wife and her son, in Kushtia.
The shootings took place at a market in the district town's PTI Road around 11 am. The victims were identified as Asma Khatun, 34, her son Robin, 7, and bkash agent Shakil Khan, 28.

The three were rushed to Kushtia General Hospital, where they were declared dead.
ASI Soumen Kumar shot Asma, who was with her son. He then gunned down Shakil. As the child tried to run away, the off-duty ASI caught him before shooting the boy dead.
As the locals came to the rescue, Soumen threatened them by raising his weapon. Later, people began attacking him with stones and brickbats.

The gun-wielding Soumen then threw down his weapon and locals took him into custody before turning him over to the police, according to Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sabbirul Islam. "No case has been filed yet over the incident."
"ASI Soumen Kumar is from Magura and was assigned to Khulna's Fultala Police Station," he added.
Asma's brother Hasan said her sister was Soumen's second wife.

ASI Soumen went to Kushtia without any official authorisation and killed three people there, said Khulna Superintendent of Police Mahbub Hasan."The ASI was not on leave. He has been suspended and legal actions will be taken against him."
"Soumen is being questioned. During the primary interrogation, Soumen said Asma was his wife and Robin her son from her previous relationship. The ASI also said Asma was shot dead as he could not accept her extramarital affair. However, we are investigating all aspects of the situation," Kushtia Additional Superintendent of Police Mostafizur Rahman said.
Week-long lockdown in Kushtia municipality areas to contain Covid spread
The district administration has imposed a week-long lockdown in the municipality areas of Kushtia in view of a sudden surge in Covid cases.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Islam said the lockdown will continue till June 18. "The decision to enforce the lockdown was taken on Friday night to contain the spread of coronavirus in the municipality areas," he said.
The positivity rate in the district is 29.75 percent, according to health officials.
During the week-long lockdown, all business establishments, shopping malls, standalone shops and eateries in the municipality areas will remain closed.
However, kitchen markets and local grocery stores shops will be allowed to operate only for four hours daily, from 8 am to 2 pm.
There will be strict restrictions on public movement in the municipality areas. No one will be allowed to step out without any valid reason, according to the order.

All tourist spots, resorts, community centres and party halls will remain closed. Moreover, no social and religious gatherings can take place during the period.
However, construction work undertaken by the government will continue, following all Covid-safety protocols.
According to health authorities, three more persons succumbed to Covid on Friday, while 61 people have been found infected with the virus after testing 205 samples.
The Covid death toll in the district currently stands at 127.
UNB has learnt that authorities at Kushtia General Hospital are literally struggling to deal with the rising cases of Covid as the situation is worsening with each passing day.

All the ICU beds at the hospital are currently occupied, a hospital official said. Some 62 patients are currently undergoing treatment at the 250-bed hospital.
Busy bazar sealed off in Kushtia to prevent Covid transmission
The local administration on Thursday sealed off a busy village bazar in Kushtia's Mirpur upazila to prevent Covid-19 transmission.
Mirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Linkon Biswas made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon.

"A resident of Old Azampur village went to Chapainawabganj for work some days ago. After returning from the district, he tested positive for Covid-19. He is now undergoing treatment at Kushtia General Hospital," Linkon said.
Two family members of the patient also tested positive for Covid-19. "However, they are recuperating at home," the UNO said, adding that the man might have been infected with the Delta variant.
As the man went to Azampur Bazar after his return from Chapainawabganj, the local administration decided to seal it off for seven days.

Besides, the house of the infected person is in the vicinity, the UNO said.
According to the local health authorities, four Covid patients have died in Kushtia in the past 24 hours. Not to mention that corona cases are on the rise in the district.
Covid-19: Restrictions imposed in Kushtia
Amid the worsening Covid-19 situation in the frontier districts of the country, the local administration in Kushtia has imposed strict restrictions on public movement.
The local administration has issued a circular asking people to complete their necessary works from 10 am to 8 pm every day in order to prevent transmission of Covid-19, said deputy commissioner Mohammad Saidul Islam.

The restrictions came into effect from Sunday midnight and will continue till June 16.
According to the circular, all shops and markets will remain open from 10 am till 8 pm following health guidelines.
Legal action will be taken if anyone violates the order.
All hotels, restaurants, kitchen markets, shops will be closed at 8 pm. The restaurants and hotels can supply food through online service and no one will be allowed to dine in at hotels and restaurants.
All kinds of tourist spots, resorts, community centres and entertainment centres will remain closed during this period.

No one will be allowed to hold public gatherings, social events, political and religious programmes.
According to the District Covid-19 prevention Committee, the Covid-19 cases are on the rise in the district as the infection rate has stood at 24.13 percent till Sunday.
The Health authorities said 56 people have been found infected with the virus in the past 24 hours till Monday morning after testing 181 samples.
Besides, 227 people have been tested positive for coronavirus in a six days till June 6 in the district with 30 percent infection rate.

A total of 5,205 people have so far been tested positive for coronavirus in the district and of them 3,157 are from Sadar upazila.
So far, 119 people have died of Covid-19 in the district.
