IGP calls on new police officers to perform duties impartially, efficiently
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Sunday called upon the new police officers to discharge their duties impartially and efficiently.
The IGP made the call while speaking to the assistant superintendent of police (ASP) probationers of the 40th BCS (Police) batch in the capital.

Seventy new officers joined the police as ASPs in the 40th BCS. Among them, 63 are men and seven women.
"Policing will be based on science and knowledge in future. It is a challenging profession where you have to face new challenges constantly. You have to be ready for that," The GP said.
"After one year of basic training at the Bangladesh Police Academy, Sarda, you will master the professional skills to tackle crime through the use of intelligence, information technology and other techniques," he added.

Additional IG (Admin) Md Kamrul Ahsan, Additional IG (Logistics and Asset Acquisition) Md Mazharul Islam, Additional IG (Crime and Operations) Md Atiqul Islam, Additional IG (Finance) Md Shahabuddin Khan, Additional IG (HR) Barrister Md Harun-or-Rashid and other senior police officers were present at the event.
IGP hands scholarships to meritorious children of police families
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Saturday called upon the meritorious students to come forward to fulfill the dream of making Bangladesh a developed, prosperous country in 2041 .
The IGP made the call while addressing the 'Bangladesh Police Merit scholarship-2022' awarding ceremony for the meritorious children of police families at Rajarbagh Bangladesh Police Auditorium this morning as chief guest. Additional IGP Kamrul Ahsan presided over the programme.
In his speech, the IGP addressed the meritorious students directly, saying: "If you (Students) have patriotism, you can fulfill your duties by being dedicated to the country even if you are outside the country. Just as you have brightened the faces of your parents with good results, you have also to be diligent in brightening the image of the country."

AIG (Education, Sports and Culture) Md. Sohail Rana delivered the welcome speech. Additional DIG Shahina Amin and ADC ABM Zakir Hossain of DMP spoke among the parents of meritorious students.
From the meritorious children who received the scholarships, Md. Abul Hasnat and Nazia Mumtahina, who succeeded in the SSC examination, and Mallik Faiz Islam Meehan and Farzana Haque who did similarly in the HSC, spoke on rthe occasion.
Additional IGs, senior police officers and meritorious students and their parents were present on the occasion.
BNP at IGP’s door; Seeks remedy for ‘fictitious’ cases
BNP on Thursday urged Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun to take steps for withdrawing the fresh ‘fictitious’ cases filed by police against the party leaders and activists.
A four-member BNP delegation, led by led by party Vice Chairman Barkatullah Bulu, met the IGP at the Police Headquarters and also handed him over a letter from BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in this regard.
The delegation went to the Police Headquarters around 12:50 pm and had an hour-long meeting with the IGP over the fresh cases against the party leaders and activists and the party’s planned rally on December 10 in the capital.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Bulu said fictitious cases are being filed against BNP leaders and followers by police and ruling party activists after hurling crude bombs. “Our people are being arrested in fictitious cases. So, we, on behalf of our secretary general, submitted a memorandum to the IGP in this regard.”
He said they also told the IGP that BNP leaders and workers are being harassed and their houses are being raided to arrest them in fictitious cases. “We’ve sought a remedy for this and he assured us of looking into the matters.”
The BNP leader said their party’s 50 leaders and workers were arrested from the High Court gate though they obtained bail from the apex court.

He said a ‘fictitious’ case was filed in Narsingdi against BNP men accusing them of exploding crude bombs chanting slogans in the name of Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman and urging people to come to BNP’s Dhaka rally. “Why should we explode bombs when we invite people to come to Dhaka?”
With the letter of the BNP Secretary General, Bulu said, a list of 169 fictitious cases--filed in between August 22 and November 26 against 6,723 identified and 15,050 unidentified people-- were given to the IGP.
Besides, he said a list of 559 arrested BNP leaders and activists was also submitted to the police boss.
About BNP’s December 10 rally, he said the police officials raised the issue of the rally. “We’ve said we want to hold it (meeting) at Nayapaltan. We sent two letters (to DMP) on November 13 and November 20 seeking Nayapaltan for our meeting venue. We didn't want any second venue.”
He said the police authorities urged them to arrange the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan promising them to extend all-out support in this regard. “We said it is not our issue today…Our standing committee and the secretary general will take a decision on it.”
The other delegation members were BNP Joint Secretary General Sayed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Publicity Secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie and Legal Affairs Secretary Kaiser Kamal.
High police officials, including Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq, were also present at the meeting.

Earlier on Tuesday, the DMP permitted BNP to hold its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on December 10 on 26 conditions.
However, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday urged the government to necessary take steps so that their party can hold the rally at Nayapaltan instead of Suhrawardy Udyan on the day.
December-10 rally: BNP delegation sits with IGP
A four-member BNP delegation sat in a meeting with Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Thursday at the police headquarters to talk about permission to hold the party’s rally at Nayapaltan on December 10 and the arrests of party leaders and workers.
The delegation, led by led by BNP Vice Chairman Barkatullah Bulu, went to the Police Headquarters around 12:50 pm and the meeting started around 1pm.

The other delegation members are BNP Joint Secretary General Sayed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Publicity Secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie and Legal Affairs Secretary Kaiser Kamal.
Talking to UNB, Annie said they will urge the IGP to allow their party to hold the rally at Nayapaltan instead of Suhrawardy Udyan and to stop the arrest of the party leaders and activists ahead of the rally.

Increase supervision to ensure quality service: IGP tells officers
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun on Wednesday ordered the police officers to enhance their monitoring capacity to ensure quality service in the police station.
The service quality of the police station has to be increased and the service seekers who come to the police station should be treated well, the IGP said.
The IGP gave this directive in his closing speech on the last day of a two-day Police Headquarters Quarterly Conference held at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh on Wednesday.

He said that police are capable of facing any challenge as its capacity has been enhanced a lot. The police have great success in controlling law and order, he added.
The IGP instructed the police officers to increase supervision so that thana police perform their duty with sincerity and goodwill in providing the expected service to the people.
The IGP also directed the field level police officers to discharge their duties with professionalism, dedication and integrity.
Referring to National Emergency Service '999', the top officer of the police force said, '999' has become a symbol of trust and reliance for the people. He asked the police officials to ensure the provision of this service at the earliest.

The two-day Police Headquarters Quarterly Conference started on Tuesday. All Additional IGPs, Commissioners of Metropolitan Police, Range DIGs and District Superintendents of Police (SPs) participated in the conference.
In the conference in the third quarter of this year (July-September) the overall crime situation across the country was reviewed and necessary guidance was provided to the field level officers.
Outgoing IGP pays farewell call on president
Outgoing Inspector General of Bangladesh Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed Thursday paid a farewell call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban.
The outgoing IGP thanked the president and expressed gratitude for the support received during his tenure, President's Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin said.

President Hamid thanked the outgoing police chief for successfully discharging his duties, he added.
Incumbent Rab DG Chowdhury Abdullah appointed as new IGP
Government has appointed incumbent Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) today.
Additional IGP, Police headquarters, M Khurshid Hossain has been appointed DG of Rab.
A gazette notification in this regard was issued by the Home Ministry's Public Security Division today.

The appointment of Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun will be effected from September 30 when incumbent IGP Benazir Ahmed will go on retirement the same day.
Chowdhury Abdullh Al Mamun was appointed as the RAB DG through a gazette published on April 8 in 2022.

IGP Benazir Ahmed to go on retirement on Sept 30
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed will go on retirement on September 30.
A gazette notification in this regard was issued by the Home Ministry's Public Security Division on Thursday.
Benazir will reach his retirement age at 59 on September 30, the gazette added.
He will be on post-retirement leave (PRL) from October 1 this year to September 30 next year.
He will be entitled to retirement and post-retirement leave benefits as per government rules, it added.
Benazir, who also served as director general of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), was appointed Bangladesh's police chief on April 8 in 2020.
Comedian Rony, constable Zillur to recover soon: IGP
Comedian-actor Abu Hena Rony and Constable Zillur Rahman, who sustained burn injuries in a gas balloon blast, will recover soon, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed.
IGP Benazir came up with the remark while talking to reporters after visiting the duo at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Monday.
He also inquired about their health condition and talked to the family members of the injured.
“It’s an accident and we have taken measures immediately after the incident and they were taken to the burn institute for better treatment. We frequently inquired about their health and the physicians and doctors are providing treatment at their best,” said IGP.
He also sought doa from the country’s people.
On September 16, Comedian-actor Abu Hena Rony and Constable Zillur Rahman were injured when a gas balloon went off with a big bang at a programme on the occasion of 4th founding anniversary of Gazipur Metropolitan Police.
More cooperation needed among countries to prevent cybercrimes, says IGP
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed on Wednesday emphasized forming an alliance and increase cooperation among the police forces of different countries to prevent cybercrime and it is not possible for any single country to deal with these crimes.
The IGP came up with the remark while addressing the conclusion programmer of three-day long 11th INTERPA annual conference at a city hotel on Wednesday.
International Association of Police Academies (INTERPA), an international organization of police training institutions of different countries, began in Dhaka on Monday.

The IGP said that the way in which crimes are increasing through the use of digital devices and platforms in today's world is becoming a threat to internet users. Therefore, police should increase the use of digital technology to maintain law and order, control crimes and protect internet users, he added.
The IGP said there is no alternative to using digital technology in police force to successfully prevent crimes.
Terming the three-day INTERPA conference a success, the IGP said that potential areas for increasing the capacity of police in the member countries have been identified in the conference.
There was an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences among the representatives of different countries attended the conference, which will help in enhancing the capacity of police to face the future challenges in the cyber world, he added.
INTERPA President and Turkish National Police Academy Rector Professor Yilmaz Colak and Police Staff College Bangladesh Rector (Additional IG) Khandaker Golam Faruk spoke on the occasion.
The theme of the 3-day long annual conference of the INTERPA was 'Digitalization of Policing,".
The representatives of Bangladesh and other countries presented 13 papers in various working sessions of the conference. One hundred twenty seven delegates from 44 countries of the world participated in the conference.
The next conference will be held in India in 2023.
