Global Covid cases top 218 million
The global Covid-19 caseload has now surpassed 218 million, as the ferocious second wave of the corona pandemic continues to wreak havoc across the world amid mass inoculation efforts.
The total caseload and fatalities stand at 218, 327,987 and 4,541,140, respectively, as of Thursday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
So far, 5, 326,650, 944 vaccine doses have been administered across the globe.
The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 39,388,909 cases. Besides, 642,004 people have lost their lives in the US to date, as per the JHU data.

The United States is surpassing an average of 160,000 new Covid-19 cases a day due to the spread of the more transmissible Delta variant.
Brazil currently has the world's second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States and the third-largest caseload after the United States and India.
The total caseload rose to 20,804,215 while the death toll stood at 581,150 as of Thursday morning.
India's Covid-19 tally rose to 32,810,845 on Wednesday, while the death toll from the virus mounted to 439,020.

Daily new infections have fallen sharply since their peak of more than 400,000 in May.
Situation in Bangladesh
Both the Covid-19 cases and fatalities in Bangladesh dropped further as the country logged 79 deaths and 3,062 new cases, respectively, in 24 hours till Tuesday morning. The case positivity rate also declined to 10.11 percent.
The fresh numbers pushed the country’s total fatalities to 26,274, while the cases reached 1,503,680, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The country last saw 112 coronavirus-related deaths on June 29 and the upswing in the fatalities reached its peak on August 5 and 10 when 264 deaths were recorded.
The new cases were detected after testing 30,294 samples in the past 24 hours, which reduced the daily case positivity rate to 10.11 percent, said the DGHS.
However, the situation was much more catastrophic from June to the better part of August as the country experienced a surge of Covid-related caseloads and deaths during that time.
Between May and June this year, there was a 273% rise in monthly caseloads and 162% in fatalities. In July, there was a 150% increase in caseloads and a 170% rise in deaths compared to the previous month, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Global Covid cases top 214 million
The pandemic continues to devastate many countries across the world. In fact, the global Covid-19 caseload has now topped 214 million.
According to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 214,514,191 and the death toll to 4,472,870 on Friday morning.
So far, 5,079,847,363 vaccine doses have been administered across the globe.

The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 38,374,252 cases. Besides, 633,479 people have lost their lives in the US to date, as per the JHU data.
Brazil, which has the world's second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States and the third-largest caseload after the US and India, recorded 577,565 deaths and 20,676,561cases, respectively, Thursday.
Neighbouring India's total Covid cases reached 32,558,530 on Thursday. The country’s total death toll reached 436,365.
Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh, currently seeing a downtrend in Covid-19 cases, detected some 4,698 fresh infections in 34,111 samples tested in 24 hours till Thursday morning.

The case positivity rate has now dropped to 13.77% The country last reported 13.39% daily case positivity rate on June 11.
Besides, 102 more deaths were reported during the 24-hour period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The fresh numbers took the country’s death tally to 25,729 and the caseload to 1,482,628. The recovery rate rose to 94.38%, but the case fatality also rose to 1.74%.
Bangladesh reports lowest 117 single-day Covid deaths in nearly 2 months
Bangladesh logged 117 more Covid-related deaths in 24 hours till Monday morning, the lowest in 55 days.
The country last saw 115 Coronavirus- related deaths on June 30 and the upward curve of the fatalities reached its peak on August 5 and 10 with 264 deaths.
Besides, 5,717 more people came out positive for the virus after testing 26,789 samples during the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The fresh number pushed the country’s total fatalities to 25,399 while the cases reached 1,467,715.
Meanwhile, the daily case positivity rate rose to 15.54 % from Sunday’s 15.16% , said the DGHS.
Bangladesh's Covid cases, fatalities down for 3rd day
Bangladesh added 145 fatalities, lowest in 48 days, to its national tally Friday as Covid deaths continue to fall for the third straight day and cases remain below the 8,000 mark since August 14.
The country reported 134 Covid deaths on July 3, the highest fatality number – 264 – on August 5 and 10, and 16,230 infections on July 28.
Bangladesh is now reporting 7,191 new cases on average each day – 50% of the peak. The highest daily average was reported on August 3.

It recorded 5,993 new cases Friday after testing 34,892 samples, down from 8,465 logged a week earlier on August 13.
The country has been experiencing a surge of Covid-related caseloads and deaths since June 2021.
Between May and June this year, there was a 273% rise in monthly caseloads and 162% in fatalities. In July there was a 150% increase in caseloads and a 170% rise in deaths compared to the previous month, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
There have been 14,53,203 infections and 25,023 coronavirus-related deaths here since the pandemic began, said the Directorate General of Health Services.
In 24 hours till Friday morning, the percentage of coronavirus tests coming back positive stood at 17.18%, down from August 13's 20.83%, while the WHO recommends a 5% or below rate.
However, the recovery rate rose to 92.74%, and the case fatality increased to 1.72% compared to the same period.
Dhaka division reported the highest 57 deaths, Chattogram 43, Khulna 15; Mymensingh, Sylhet and Rangpur seven each, Rajshahi five and Barishal four.

Since the beginning of the vaccination programme, the government has administered at least 22,413,079 doses of Covid vaccines – enough to have vaccinated around 6.7% of the country's population, assuming every person needs two doses.
Getting vaccinated prevents severe illness, hospitalisations, and death; and with the Delta variant; this is more urgent than ever, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Bangladesh reports 198 more Covid deaths, 7,535 fresh cases
Amid concern over the spread of Delta Variant Bangladesh reported 198 more coronavirus-related deaths and 7,535 fresh infections in 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
The country has been seeing fatalities below 200 for the last five days, a slight improvement from the July 25- August 13 period when daily deaths were recorded over 200.
The fresh numbers took the country’s total fatality to 24,547 while the cases to 1,433,396, according to a handout issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS)
The new cases were detected after testing 39,278 samples which lowered the case positivity rate to 19.18 % from Monday’s 21.08%.
The country is seeing over 8,500 cases on a daily average for the last seven days.
Bangladesh recorded its highest-ever 16,230 single day Covid cases on July 28.
Meanwhile, the case fatality rate remained unchanged at 1.71%, said the DGHS.

Global Covid cases near 208 million
The global Covid-19 caseload is now nearing the grim milestone of 208 million, as the highly contagious Delta variant continues to devastate several countries even with mass inoculations underway.
The total caseload and fatalities from the virus stood at 207,824,763 and 4,370,906 respectively, as of Tuesday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
So far, 4,704,997,138 Covid vaccine doses have been administered across the globe, as per the university data.

The US has logged 36,886,005 cases and 622,306 deaths to date, according to the JHU data. The death toll in the United States is the highest in the world.
Children made up 15% of the reported weekly Covid-19 cases in the US for the week ending August 5, according to a recent report by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
Amid a surge of infections driven by the highly contagious Delta variant in the country, almost 94,000 Covid-19 cases among children were reported the past week, "a continuing substantial increase", said the AAP in the report updated on August 9.
Brazil registered 434 more Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, raising its national death toll to 569,492, the health ministry said on Monday.
The ministry said that the total caseload rose to 20,378,570 after 14,471 new cases were detected.
Brazil currently has the world's second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States, and the third-largest caseload after the United States and India.
India's Covid-19 tally rose to 32,225,513 on Monday as some 32,937 new cases were registered in 24 hours across the country, as per the federal health ministry data.

Besides, as many as 417 deaths were reported due to the pandemic since Sunday morning, taking the total death toll to 431,642.

The country is now reporting 9,315 new cases on an average each day – 64% of the peak. The highest daily average was reported on August 3.

In 24 hours till Monday morning, the percentage of coronavirus tests coming back positive stood at 21.08%.
However, the recovery rate rose to 91.31%, and the case fatality increased to 1.71% compared to the same period.
The country has been experiencing a surge of Covid-related caseload and deaths since June 2021.
Vaccine co-production
Bangladesh, China and Incepta Pharmaceutical Ltd on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the co-production of Sinopharm vaccine in Bangladesh.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque and Abdul Muktadir, Chairman of Incepta Vaccine Limited signed the MoU from Dhaka while Li Can, President of China Sinopharm International Corporation and Zhu Jingjin, Vice President, China National Biotec Group Company Limited signed it from Beijing.
China has provided 2.1 million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine as a gift to Bangladesh, 3.4 million doses under the COVAX facility, and 8 million doses as part of a large-scale commercial purchase agreement.

Covid-19: Bangladesh reports 178 more deaths, 6,885 new cases
With Covid-19 vaccine jabs still remaining off the peak in Bangladesh, the country reported 178 more coronavirus-related deaths and 6,885 fresh infections in 24 hours till Saturday Morning.
The fresh numbers took the country’s death tally to 23,988 while the total cases mounted to 1,412,218, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The new infections were detected after testing 33,330 samples, bringing down the case positivity rate slightly to 20.66% from Friday’s 20.88%.
Meanwhile, the case fatality rate increased to 1.70% from yesterday’s 1.68% during the period.

Besides, the recovery rate rose to 90.62%, with 7,805 new patients recovered from the infection
Bangladesh again hits record high 264 Covid deaths
As the Delta variant has sharply been fueling case surges, Bangladesh saw a record high 264 deaths again as health authorities came up with their 24-hour report on Tuesday.
On August 5, the country reported 264 deaths shattering its previous single-day record of 258 Covid-related deaths on July 27.
Besides, 11,164 more people came out positive during the period after testing 47,424 samples, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The fresh numbers pushed Bangladesh’s total fatality to 23,161 and total cases to 1,376,322.
The case positivity rate during the 24-hour period fell slightly to 23.58% from Monday’s 24.28%, while the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a 5% or below rate.
The recovery rate, however, rose to 89.71%, with the recovery of 14,903 people during the period, said the DGHS.
However, the case fatality remained unchanged at 1.68% during the period.
Of the recent deceased, the highest 92 died in Dhaka division, followed by 60 in Chattogram, 27 in Khulna, 25 in Rajshahi, 18 in Mymensingh, 17 in Sylhet, 14 in Rangpur, and 11 in Barishal.
Of them, 154 were men and 110 were women.
As per their age breakdown, one was below 10 years of age, six between 21-30, 16 between 31-40, 25 between 41-50, 66 between 51-60, 85 between 61-70, 48 between 71-80, 12 between 81-90 and five were between 91-100 years of age.

Covid fatality rate hits 1.68% in Bangladesh with 245 more deaths
Teetering on the edge of a brutal Covid-19 infection wave, Bangladesh reported 245 more deaths in 24 hours till Monday morning with 11,463 new cases.
The new numbers again raised the case fatality rate to 1.68% from Sunday’s 1.67%, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the fresh deaths, the country’s total death tally reached 22,897 while the total cases mounted to 1,365,158.
The new cases were detected after the test of 47,207 samples slightly lowering the case positivity rate to 24.28% from Sunday’s 24.52%, the DGHS said.
Overwhelmed by the Delta variant Covid surge, Bangladesh has been seeing around 250 deaths and 13,000 cases daily on average for a week.
Besides, the recovery rate rose to 89.36% in Bangladesh from Sunday’s 89.05% with 14,412 new patients recovering from Covid-19 during this time.
Of the recent deaths, the highest 83 people died in Dhaka division, followed by 71 in Chattogram, 25 in Khulna, 19 in Rangpur, 18 in Sylhet, 13 in Mymensingh, 10 in Rajshahi, and six in Barishal divisions.
Of them, 128 were men and 117 were women.
As per their age breakup, two were between 11-20, 13 between 21-30, 20 between 31-40, 16 between 41-50, 55 between 51-60, 84 between 61-70, 35 between 71-80, 17 between 81-90 and three were between 91-100 years of age.
