Female cop, father jailed for using fake FF certificate
Barishal, Sep 4 (UNB) – A female constable and her father were sent to jail on Monday on charges of using fake certificates of freedom fighter (FF) to get police constable's job.
The accused are retired Subedar Abdul Latif Gazi and his daughter Constable Milky Akhter of Charkewtia village in Sadar upazila.
Additional Chief Magistrate Court Judge Maruf Ahmed passed the order after they sought bail in the case, said Sub-inspector Khakan, general recording officer of Kotwali Model Police Station.
According to the case statement, Milky Akhter took the job in police force showing fake freedom fighter certificate on February 20, 2010. After completing the training, she was posted to Barishal Metropolitan Police as a constable.
During the verification, the FF certificate submitted by the arrestee was found fake.
Later on May 30, Sub-inspector Kabir of reserve police filed a case with Kotwali Model Police Station accusing the father and the daughter.

DUCSU polls: Notice served to DU authorities
Dhaka, Sept 4 (UNB) –A contempt of court rule notice has been served to Vice-chancellor, Proctor and Treasurer of Dhaka University for not taking any steps to hold Dhaka University Central Student’s Union (DUCSU) elections despite High Court directives to hold it within six months.
The notice said Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, Proctor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani and Treasurer Dr Kamal Uddin will be sued in a contempt of court case if they do not take steps to hold an election following HC directives within next seven days.
Advocate Manzil Murshid, lawyer of the petitioners, said the notice was issued on Tuesday.
Earlier on January 17, the HC asked the DU authorities to take necessary steps within the next six months to hold DUCSU elections.
A writ petition was filed by 25 students of DU in March 2012 seeking a court order to compel the authorities concerned to arrange the Ducsu election.
The last time DUCSU elections were held in 1990 leading to the fall of military dictator HM Ershad in that year.

64- year-old FF to swim 186 kms to set Guinness World Record
Sherpur, Sept 3 (UNB) – Khitindra Chandra Boishya, a 64-year-old freedom fighter, has started swimming to cross 186 kms of the Bhogai River, aiming to set a new Guinness World Record.
Khitindra started the swimming jumping into the river from the west side of a bridge in Nalitabari upazila headquarters at 7am on Monday.
Arifur Rahman, Nalitabari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), inaugurated his swimming programme in presence of hundreds enthusiastic people.
The UNO said Khitindra will cross Kongso and Mogra rivers in Netrakona district and reach Dewan Bazar ghat in Madan upazila on September 5, swimming 60 hours without any break.
