Cornered Tigers eye to avoid a whitewash vs Pakistan
Aiming to avoid a whitewash in the three-match T20I series, Bangladesh will take on Pakistan on Monday in the final clash at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Due to the poor batting display, Bangladesh lost the first two matches without creating enough resistance against the quality bowling attack of Pakistan. Now, the Tigers stand on the edge of a whitewash.
Bangladesh are missing the services of veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim and seasoned all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. While Mushfiqur was rested for this series, Shakib has been sidelined due to an injury.
In their absence, the onus was on Mahmudullah Riyad, Afif Hossain, Najmul Hossain and Mohammad Naim to guide the batting line. But they failed to deliver in the first two matches.

Ahead of the third T20I, Bangladesh made two changes to the squad adding right-arm pacer Kamrul Islam Rabbi and left-handed opener Parvez Hossain Emon.
Emon was one of Bangladesh’s mainstays during their U-19 World Cup triumph in 2020 in South Africa. He also displayed his T20 batting prowess in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup last year. He has the record of hitting the fastest T20 century as a Bangladeshi batter.
The left-handed batter played a total of 24 T20s and scored 563 runs in an average of 24.47 with a century.
Kamrul has also shown some quality bowling in T20s. but he was never a part of the Bangladesh T20 team before. He played a total of 68 T20s and bagged 80 wickets with the best bowling figure of taking four wickets conceding 10 runs. He also played seven Tests.
It was learnt that the right-handed opener, Saif Hassan, who got his T20I cap in the first match of the series and also took part in the second, has been asked to leave the team hotel and join the Test probable in Chattogram.

Now, Emon is the only opener in the team along with Mohammad Naim. So it is expected that Emon will join Naim to open the innings on Monday.
Left-arm pacer duo Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam are uncertain for the final match due to some injury concerns. They might be replaced with other uncapped pacers Shohidul Islam and Rabbi.
After the T20I series, both the teams will travel to Chattogram for the first Test of the two-match series beginning on November 26. The second Test of the series will be played in Dhaka from December 4.
Tigers aim for win against Pak to keep the series alive
Bangladesh are aiming to pull off a win against Pakistan in the second game of the three-match T20 series at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
The Tigers lost the first match by four wickets on Friday. They need to post a win to keep the series alive.
In the first match, Bangladesh batted first and failed to post a challenging total on the board. They could only manage 127 for seven in 20 overs. Pakistan chased it down with four wickets in hand in 19.2 overs.

After the match, Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah Riyad blamed the top-order batters for their lean performance. He said the result would have been better if the batters did well.
The hosts’ bowlers, on the other hand, were up to the mark. They restricted the visitors in the powerplay but failed to deliver in the death overs.
Bangladeshi batters need to come up with big scores in the second match. If they can win this, the third and final T20I will be a final for both teams, which will take place on Monday at the same venue.

A World Cup Bangladesh prefer to forget
The goal was big. The team prepared well beating Australia and New Zealand at home in two successive series. But the Tigers ended up losing the six of the eight matches they played in this year’s T20 World Cup.
Experts say the team played the World Cup with the absence of real team spirit.
Bangladesh’s two historic wins before the World Cup didn’t help them register a win even against Scotland who are a weaker side compared to experienced Tigers.
Bangladesh’s morale was hit hard when they lost two warm-up matches— against Ireland and Sri Lanka— ahead of the main event in Oman.
Before taking on Scotland in the first match in Round 1, Bangladesh’s captain Mahmudullah Riyad brushed aside the defeats in the warm-up matches.
But in the first match, Bangladesh were stunned by Scotland which had prompted the BCB president, Nazmul Hasan, to criticize the cricketers mercilessly. He blamed three seniors— Mahmudllah Riyad, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan— for the defeat that seemed to have set the tone for the Tigers in this year’s T20 World Cup.

“There was a negative environment when Bangladesh lost the first match to Scotland,” Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, the former cricket development officer at BCB and the current cricket advisor at BKSP, told UNB.

Tigers directly qualify for Super 12s of next T20 World Cup
Bangladesh have directly qualified for the Super 12s of the next T20 World Cup, which will take place in Australia, despite failing to win a single match in this year's edition of the stage.
In their last match in this year's T20 World Cup, the West Indies lost by eight wickets to Australia. As the Caribbean side slipped to ninth place in the ranking, Bangladesh jumped to number eight.
The defending champions West Indies will now have to play Round 1 of the next year's T20 World Cup.
And for the first time in the tournament's history, Bangladesh will not have to play the qualifying round.
Along with the West Indies, three more teams – Sri Lanka, Scotland and Namibia who played in the Super 12s this year – will have to play the qualification round for the next T20 World Cup.
According to the ICC rules, the top eight teams in the ICC ranking – which will be updated on November 15 – will directly qualify for the Super 12s in next year's T20 World Cup.
Since there are not many matches left for the West Indies to earn rating points in this short time to top Bangladesh, they will not be able to secure a place among the top eight teams in the next ranking update.

T20 World Cup: Tigers in desperate search for consolation win
Defeat in four consecutive matches has ended Bangladesh’s hope to qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup. Still, the Tigers have a good chance to register a consolation win when they take on Australia on Thursday in Dubai.
Australia have played three matches so far and won two of them. They currently are in third place on the points table. The top two teams of the Group 1 of the Super 12s will qualify for the semi-finals. England and South Africa are leading the table with eight and six points respectively from four and three wins.

Right before the World Cup, Bangladesh won two T20Is series on the trot against Australia and New Zealand, which had boosted Bangladesh’s confidence to do well in the World Cup. But they stumbled in the tournament as the wickets of the UAE are not similar to the pitches of Dhaka where they beat Australi and New Zealand.
“We have another chance to win against Australia tomorrow. The guys will analyse what they have done, and what they have to do. I am sure they will come back strongly tomorrow,” Rangana Herath, Bangladesh’s spin bowling coach told the media on Wednesday.
“As a professional team, we need to come back strongly. We have another game to go. We need to maintain that winning mindset and build winning confidence. We have to think about Bangladesh cricket’s way forward,” he added.

Bangladesh are going to miss the service of Shakib Al Hasan once again as the allrounder has been ruled out of the event with a hamstring blow. The Bangladesh team management did not call up any replacement which came as a big surprise to the fans. It seems that the team management accepted defeat in the last match even before it took to the field.
Aminul Islam Biplob, the legspinner, was part of the Bangladesh team as a standby player. But right before the World Cup began, he was sent home citing that his service won’t be required.
“We had three spinners so the management thought that it was the best combination. I am sure for the next tour against Pakistan or for the next few series Biplob will join the team,” Herath told about Aminul.
“Lot of wrist spinners are doing well in this tournament. I am sure Biplob will join in the next two tours. He will hopefully get the opportunity to play for Bangladesh,” he added.
Herath also said that the Bangladeshi players need to be more professional and understand their roles in the team and perform accordingly.
“As a cricketer, playing for your country is a matter of pride and responsibility. We should all understand the responsibilities and roles whether you are playing for Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
If you can identify that role, and then improve day by day,” Herat, who was an integral part of the Sri Lankan side for years, also added.
Right after the World Cup, Bangladesh are set to take on Pakistan in a full series which will take place in Dhaka and Chattogram.

T20 World Cup: South Africa dismiss Bangladesh for 84
Bangladesh batters left shattered for 84 on Sunday at Abu Dhabi in their fourth Super 12s match of the ongoing T20 World Cup against South Africa.
Four Bangladeshi batters— Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain and Nasum Ahmed— each suffered a duck and three of them fell for a golden duck.
While going to 35 from 22, Bangladesh lost five wickets— three to Kagiso Rabada inside five balls.

Rabada led the terrific bowling display from South Africa on a pitch that had something in it for the quicks.
Rabada conceded 20 runs to take three wickets in four overs, Anrich Nortje also bagged three wickets conceding eight runs in 3.3 overs.
Tabraiz Shamsi, the left-arm unorthodox spinner, bagged two wickets as well.
For Bangladesh, Mahedi Hasan was the best batter scoring 27 off 25 balls while Liton Das scored 24.
Eventually, Bangladesh tumbled for 84 all out in 18.2 overs. They never looked able to soak up the initial pressure and come up with something challenging for the Proteas.

It was the third-lowest total by any team against South Africa in the T20 World Cups.
With this lean display, Bangladesh became the first ICC full member nation to be bowled out under 100 thrice in a calendar year.
ladesh have lost three matches they have played before this one, and they have no real chance to qualify for the semifinals even if they win this match and the next match against Australia.
T20 World Cup: “Determined” Tigers to take on South Africa Tuesday
Ahead of their fourth match in the Super 12s stage of the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh’s head coach Russell Domingo said the players are “determined” to give their best to win the match.
Bangladesh lost three matches on the trot in the Super 12s, and they have no real chance to advance to the next phase of the World Cup. But the Tigers are eager to end the World Cup by winning the next two matches.
“Morale has been pretty low after the two narrow losses against Sri Lanka and West Indies. Our chance is probably over in this World Cup, but we have a lot to play for tomorrow. The guys are determined to put in good performances,” Domingo told a pre-match press conference on Monday.
South Africa traditionally struggle against spin. Domingo hinted that the Tigers will rely on their spin department more to beat South Africa on Tuesday.

“Having worked in South Africa for a long time myself, we know there’s always a question mark in the way they play spin. Hopefully, the conditions will help us tomorrow. There are certain areas we will look to exploit when we play against them. We have had some good discussions this morning,” the Bangladesh coach added.
Bangladesh have lost Mohammad Saifuddin to a back injury. The allrounder will not take part in this World Cup anymore. Now, Shakib Al Hasan has also been ruled out of the World Cup. Domingo said it came as a big blow for the team as Shakib adds experience and calmness to the team.
Because of Shakib’s absence Bangladesh will have to make changes in the playing XI. Shamim Hossain might get a chance on Tuesday.
Nurul Hasan Sohan, the wicketkeeper-batter, might also be unavailable for the next match. He suffered a blow before the England match and was side-lined when the Tigers took on West Indies.
Bangladesh missed at least 10 catches in the World Cup so far. Domingo believes this mistake is happening due to the experience guys who are playing at the bigger stage of the game for the first time.
“If you look at the age group in our side, I think we have come into the World Cup with the youngest average age for the players. Guys like Naim, Afif, Shoriful and Mahedi are young players. In big events like this, some players will make mistakes. As long as they are gaining experience from these mistakes, it will put us in good stead going forward,” Domingo further told the media.
Bangladesh’s early exit, though it’s not official yet, sparked anger among the fans at home. Social media is inundated with the trolls of the Bangladesh team which is also affecting the mentality of the players. Former Bangladesh captain, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, urged the board to impose an embargo so that the players stay away from social media during big events like World Cup.

Many of the trolls are floating around social media targeting Bangladesh’s head coach Domingo, who said he is not a big fan of social media.
“Fortunately I am not on social media. I don’t read too much of it. Most of my social media used to be when I was involved in fishing. Not so much cricket,” Domingo added.
