Missing college student's body found in Pangasia canal
The body of a college student who went missing Monday after falling from a launch in the Pangasia canal, was fished out Tuesday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Niloy, 18, a Class 11 student of Gajaria Government College and son of Dr Md Ali from Hoglakandi village.
His body was recovered around 10am from the Pangasia canal, a distributary channel of the Meghna river in the district's Gajaria upazila, by divers from Narayanganj fire service, said Rifat Mallik, station officer of Gajaria fire service.

Md Rais Uddin, officer-in-charge of Gajaria police station, said, "Niloy and his friends were returning home from a picnic on the launch, ML Hasib, on Monday when the tragedy occurred."
"Niloy tried to remove a hanging live electric wire and was electrocuted. He fell in the river in the impact of the jolt and drowned," the officer said.

Seven of his friends -- Rifat, Minhaz, Faysal Pradhan, Rabbi Shakill, Nahid and Sharif -- also sustained injuries in the incident, and are being treated at a hospital, said the OC.
Two fishermen go missing after boat sinks in Bay
Two fishermen went missing as a boat capsized in the Bay of Bengal after being hit by a lighter vessel early Wednesday. The missing fishermen were identified as Md Harun, 40, son of Sayed Noor of Paruapara area of Chattogram's Anwara Upazila, and Rashid, 35, of Kutubdia upazila of Cox's Bazar. Nashir Uddin, in charge of Baro Auliya Naval Police, said that six fishermen went to the sea for fishing on a small boat on Sunday morning.

On Tuesday midnight, when they were returning, the boat capsized after being hit by a lighter ship. Four of them managed to swim ashore but Harun and Rashid remained missing. Naval Police, Coast Guard and locals carried out search and rescue operations but failed to trace them. A general diary (GD) has been registered at the Anwara police station.
At least 21 killed, 3 missing in south Iran floods
The death toll from Friday's flash floods in the southern Iranian province of Fars has risen to 21, and three others are still missing, rescue sources told state media on Saturday.
Mehdi Valipour, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, said initially 89 people were stuck in the flood waters, and that the rescue operation will continue until the rest of the missing people are found.
Speaking to the semi-official Mehr News Agency earlier in the day, Estahban Governor Yousef Kargar said 13 of the recovered bodies have been identified.

He noted that so far, 55 people, who were stuck in areas surrounded by the flood, have been rescued and that a rescue operation is underway.
The governor blamed the Iran Meteorological Organization for failing to issue an adequately strong warning prior to the heavy rainfall on Friday evening.

Teen tourist goes missing in Bay of Bengal
A 16-year-old tourist went missing in the Bay of Bengal while taking bath at Inani Royal Tulip point in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday, police said.
The missing tourist has been identified as Abdullah, son of Colonel Shaheed.

Additional superintendent of Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police, Rezaul Karim, said Abdullah and his parents came to visit Cox’s Bazar.
"At 11am, he was swept away away by the strong current while taking bath in the sea with his family members. A search operation is on," said Rezaul.
Missing BUET student’s body fished out of Padma
The body of a final-year student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) was fished out of the Padma River on Friday, nearly 24 hours he went missing.
The deceased was identified as Tariquzzaman Sunny.

Mostafa Kamal, officer-in-charge of Dohar police station, said that Sunny went missing while bathing in the river with three of his friends at Moinot Ghat in Dhaka's Dohar upazila around noon on Thursday.

Members of the Fire Service fished out his body around 11am, he said.
A case of unnatural death has been filed in this regard and the body will be handed over to the deceased's family after an autopsy, said OC Mostafa.
Missing youth from Kuakata sea beach found in India
A youth who went missing while swimming at Kuakata sea beach in Patuakhali has turned up in the Indian city of Chennai.
The missing tourist Firoz Shikder, 27, himself contacted his family from Chennai on Saturday at 5 pm after remaining missing for the last seven days, said his brother Masud to UNB.
On May 27, Firoz, a resident of Amkhola village in Patuakhali, went missing as he was swimming with some of his friends at Kuakata.

Quoting his brother, Masud said,”Firoz was pulled into the deep sea during high current and somehow found a log to hold on to. After some 24 hours of floating some Indian fishermen rescued him and handed him to Indian Coast Guard.”
The Indian Coast Guard took Firoz to Chennai state and he is currently under the custody of the Indian government.

Abdul Khaleque, Assistant Superintendent of Kuakata tourist police said Firoz’s brother has informed them about the incident and they are looking into the matter.
Missing gold trader found dead after 5 months
Police have recovered the body of a gold trader from Sirajdikhan, Munshiganj five months after he went missing.
Anup Baul, a gold trader in Old Dhaka's Tanti Bazar, was from Teghoria union of South Keraniganj.
Biplob Baul, the younger brother of the deceased, said Anup was owed Tk2 lakh by his business partner Noyon – that at the time of his disappearance he was trying to get back.
In fact, on the day Anup went missing, last January 4, Noyon had told him over the phone that he was ready to pay up, for which he asked to meet in Sirajdikhan. Since then, Anup had been missing.
A general diary was filed at Sirajdikhan Police Station the next day.
Later Biplob lodged a complaint at Dhalpur RAB-10 office in the capital.
Police's Detective Branch (DB) detained Noyon over the incident and questioned him, according to Khorshed Alam, superintendent of police at PBI Dhaka district unit.
Based on Noyon's information, police recovered Anup's body Thursday and sent it to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, added the officer.

Rescuers search for 8 missing crew members in ship collision in Philippines
Rescuers from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) are searching for eight missing crew members of a fishing vessel that sank off Palawan province after colliding with a cargo vessel on Saturday afternoon, a PCG spokesperson said on Sunday.
Commodore Armand Balilo said the collision occurred before 6:00 p.m. local time on Saturday, 26 km northeast of Maracanao Island, and 13 out of the 21 crew had been rescued.
The search and rescue operations were continuing, Balilo said, and the cargo vessel MV Happy Hiro, on its way to the central Philippines, was not damaged and had helped transport the rescued fishers safely.

The maritime accident happened less than a week after a ferry carrying over 130 passengers and crew caught fire on May 23 while traveling to a town in Quezon province on the main Luzon island, leaving at least seven dead.
Ferry accidents are not rare in the Philippines, an archipelagic country in Southeast Asia.
25 missing after ferry sinks in Indonesia
Rescuers in Indonesia were searching for 25 people who were missing after a ferry sank in the Makassar Strait in Central Sulawesi province, officials said Sunday.
A total of 42 people were on the boat when it sank in bad weather on Thursday morning while traveling from a seaport in Makassar to Kalmas Island in Pangkep Regency, said Djunaedi, the head of the South Sulawesi National Search and Rescue Agency. Like many Indonesians, Djunaedi goes by only one name.
Seventeen people were later rescued, including some by two tugboats that were at sea at the time of the incident.
Djunaedi said the search and rescue agency received new information about the location of the sunken ferry on Saturday and dispatched crews to the area. Two ferries and a search and rescue boat, along with local fishing boats, are involved in the search for the missing passengers.

Ferry tragedies are common in Indonesia, an archipelago of more than 17,000 islands, where ferries are often used as transport and safety regulations can lapse.
In 2018, an overcrowded ferry with about 200 people on board sank in a deep volcanic crater lake in North Sumatra province, killing 167 people.
In one of the country’s worst recorded disasters, an overcrowded passenger ship sank in February 1999 with 332 people aboard. There were only 20 survivors.
Two CMP cops missing after training in Netherlands, says police official
Two constables of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) did not return to the country on completion of training in the Dog Squad in the Netherlands, a police officer said on Friday.
The two, Shah Alam from Cox's Bazar and Russell Chandra Dey from Cumilla, are suspected to have fled the camp to stay back.

In Bangladesh, they stayed in the barracks of CMP's Dampara Police Lines and Mansurabad Police Lines.
Amir Zafar, deputy commissioner of CMP (Headquarters) said that on May 9, a team of 8 members of Chattogram Metropolitan Police went to the Netherlands to join the15- day training on Dog Squad management and operation.
But the day before departure, two constables left the camp in the afternoon in the name of tour. Since then, they have not been found, he said, adding that efforts are on to find them through the police headquarters and the foreign ministry.

The incident has already been reported to the Netherlands' embassy and police headquarters.
“We are not sure yet whether they have fled or not." "If it is, action will be taken against them for violating discipline," the officer added.
