Rohingya man shot dead in Cox’s Bazar
A 42-year-old Rohingya refugee was shot dead allegedly by assailants at Balukhali camp in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday evening.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Shah, a resident of Modhur Chhora camp-17 in Balukhali.

Deceased’s wife Sazeda Begum said that the assailants shot Mohammad Shah while he was talking over the phone near a shop in the camp in the Modhur Chhora area at 5pm on Wednesday and fled immediately.
Later, he was rushed to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival, said Sheikh Md Ali, officer-in-charge of Ukhiya police station.
The body was kept in the hospital morgue for an autopsy, he said. "Efforts are on to identify and nab the killers,” said the OC.
12,000 families in Cox’s Bazar living with imminent risk of landslides
“I am forced to live with the risk of death from a landslide in the foothill. where else a day laborer like me would lie down after work?” said Ariful Islam, a resident of Lighthouse area in Cox’s Bazar.
Like Ariful there are at least 12,000 families who are living on the sloping foothills, with an elevated risk of landslide, according to Cox’s Bazar Forest and Environment Conservation Council. Given the average family size in Bangladesh, that could mean around 50,000 people at risk.
Cox’s Bazar, a highly landslide-prone zone of the country where every year casualties are reported from this disaster during the monsoon season (June–September) triggered by heavy rains.

Rongiyas rally in Cox’s Bazar demands return home in Myanmar
Rohingyas from 25 of the 34 refugee camps in Ukhia and Teknaf gathered on Sunday demanding that they are repatriated to their homeland Myanmar.
The rally started at 8 am at the 23 camps of Ukhia and two in Teknaf following staging human chains and demonstration.
Chanting “Back to Home” slogan Rohingyas of all ages from every block of the refugee camps participated in the rally and requested the global communities to ensure their return to Myanmar.

Rohingya man shot dead in Cox’s Bazar
A Rohingya man was shot dead allegedly by miscreants at Ukhiya Balur Math camp in Cox’s Bazar early Thursday, said police.
The deceased was identified as Salimullah, a resident of the camp and a volunteer of the camp.

A group of miscreants opened fire on Salimullah, leaving him injured, said Sheikh Mohammad Ali, officer-in-charge of Ukhia Police Station.
Later, he was taken to Sadar hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered the body Thursday morning.
Rohingya camp leader hacked to death in Cox’s Bazar
A Rohingya leader of the Balukhali refugee camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar has been hacked to death allegedly over establishing dominance in the camp, the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) said on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Md Azimuddin,48, son of Kamal Uddin, and head of block L/16 of Camp-18, said Kamran Hossain, additional superintendent of APBn-8.
Aound 8pm on Thursday, some Rohingyas from Camp-20 stealthily attacked the leaders responsible for guarding M/9 sub block of block B in Camp-18, he said. "They attacked to create dominance over the camp."

During the attack, two more Rohingyas named Syed Karim, 40, and Rahimulla, 36, were hurt, said additional SP Kamran. "APBn-8 is conducting raids to detain the attackers," he added.

BGB destroys seized drugs worth Tk 395 crore in Cox’s Bazar
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday destroyed drugs worth Tk 395.76 crore seized over the past one year in Cox’s Bazar.
The destroyed drugs include 90,80,477 pieces of Yaba, 23.752 kg crystal meth ice, 6,767 cans of beer, 1,339 bottles of alcohol, 154 bottles of Phensidyl; 206 liters of local alcohol; 17 kg cannabis; 48,019 different types of tablets; 10,984 packets of cigarettes and sever bottles of ammonium sulfur, said a BGB media release.
Besides, 1979 arrested drug peddlers and drugs worth Tk 510.90 crore were handed over to police.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan was present as the chief guest on the occasion.

A documentary on the BGB's drive against drugs was screened at the programme and BGB Cox's Bazar Regional Commander Brigadier General Nazam-us-Sakib, AFWC, PSC delivered the welcome note.
Government officials, reporters, BGB officials and members were present at the event.
Over 1kg crystal meth seized in Cox’s Bazar
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Thursday claimed to have seized over 1 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 143 bottles of liquor and 50kg of nets in separate drives across Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
Tipped off, a team of BGB-2 intercepted a boat in which two smugglers from Myanmar were heading towards Jaliar Dwip around 1am, said Commander of Teknaf Battalion-2, Lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Khalid Mohammad Iftekhar.

The smugglers, however, jumped into the Naf river and managed to escape. Later, the BGB men seized 1.056 kg of crystal meth and 50 kg of nets worth Tk 5.28 crore from the boat.
In another drive in Karingaghona, when a team of BGB-Teknaf Battalion challenged 6-7 smugglers carrying sacks to a nearby village in the small hours of Thursday.
Though the smugglers managed to escape, they left the sacks behind. The BGB men found 143 bottles of illicit liquor worth Tk 2.14 lakh in the sacks.
Bodies of 2 youths found in Cox’s Bazar
Police recovered two bodies from the Inani beach area and Kabita Chattar point of Cox’s Bazar, respectively, on Tuesday.

“A 30-year-old man’s body washed ashore in the Inani beach area and another body -- that of an 18-20-year-old man -- was found hanging in the Kabita Chattar area," said Md Selimuddin, officer-in-charge of Cox’s Bazar model police station.

He said both the bodies were sent for post-mortem.
Gang leader killed as two robber gangs clash in Cox’s bazar
A member of a robber gang in Cox’s Bazar was killed on Monday as two gangs of robbers clashed over enmity at Chakaria Dulahazara on Monday night.
Deceased Amir Hossain, gang leader, was a resident of Dumkhali reserve area in Dulahazara.

Members of Amir Hossain gang clashed with the members of Abdur Rahman gang. A person was killed in the clash, said officer-in-charge of Chakaria police, Jewel Islam
According to the locals, the gangs had a long-standing enmity. A few days ago, a member of Amir Hossain gang beat up a member of Abdur Rahman gang for which the member of that gang attacked Amir Hossain on Monday night leaving him dead.
