10 more die of Covid at Rajshahi hospital
Ten more people have died of Covid-19 at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in the past 24 hours, officials said Saturday.
Among them, three were confirmed Covid cases, while the remaining seven patients showed symptoms of the virus, hospital director Brigadier General Shamim Yeazdani said.
Of the deceased, five were from Rajshahi district while the remaining five belonged to Chapainawabganj district.

A total of 193 people have died of Covid-19 at RMCH in the last 19 days.
Shamim also said that some 46 people have been admitted to the corona unit of the hospital in the past 24 hours. At the same time, 18 patients have recovered and discharged.
"The figure was somewhat more than that of Friday's, but the infection rate in Rajshahi decreased to 30.06 percent," he said.

On Friday, 376 samples were tested in Rajshahi, of which 113 emerged positive.

Twelve more people have died of Covid-19 at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in the past 24 hours, officials said Friday.

A total of 183 people have died of Covid-19 at RMCH in the last 18 days.
Shamim also said that some 41 people have been admitted to the corona unit of the hospital in the past 24 hours. "The figure was somewhat less than that of Thursday's, but the infection rate in Rajshahi rose to 43.87 percent," he said.

On Thursday, 561 samples were tested at RMCH of which 220 emerged positive.
Lockdown in Rajshahi extended by a week
Amid an alarming surge in Covid-19 cases in the city, authorities have extended the ongoing lockdown in Rajshahi by one more week.
The decision to extend the lockdown till June 24 to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission in the city was taken at a meeting held at Rajshahi Circuit House on Wednesday night.

"No improvement in the Covid-19 situation has been witnessed in the past six days in Rajshahi. The Covid positivity rate fluctuates but the mortality rate remains the same. That’s why the lockdown has been extended,” Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor Khairuzzaman Liton, who chaired the meeting, told reporters.
A seven-day lockdown was first imposed in Rajshahi on June 11. The lockdown was to end on June 17 midnight.

Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi, Abdul Jalil said, “Rajshahi city will be detached from the other parts of the district during the lockdown, which will come into force on Thursday morning. No one will be allowed to enter or exit the city."
During the lockdown, all modes of public transport will stay off the roads. However, the movement restrictions won't apply on vehicles providing emergency services.

Moreover, all shops, markets and restaurants will remain closed, except for grocery stores and pharmacies. This is to allow people to buy their daily essentials and medicines from their local grocers and chemists, respectively.
On Tuesday, the health authorities in Rajshahi reported 162 new Covid cases after testing 373 samples in two laboratories of the district. The positivity rate reached 43.44 percent, which was 30.17 percent on Monday, officials said.

Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) on Wednesday recorded 13 more deaths from Covid in 24 hours.
Of the deceased, five were confirmed Covid patients while the remaining eight showed symptoms of the virus, hospital director Brigadier General Shamim Yeazdani said.

Eight of the deceased were from Rajshahi, while four belonged to Chapainawabganj district and one was from Kushita district.
A total of 161 people have died of Covid-19 in Rajshahi division in the last 16 days, according to the hospital authorities.
In the past 24 hours, Shamim said, as many as 48 people have been admitted to the corona unit of the hospital.
Currently, some 344 people are undergoing treatment at the hospital against its capacity of 305 beds in the corona unit.

"We are doing our best and providing treatment to as many Covid patients as possible at the hospital after arranging additional beds," said Shamim.
To deal with the pressure of Covid patients, the hospital authorities have added 34 beds, including two ICU beds, to the hospital's existing capacity, he said.
Besides, a letter has been sent to the Department of Health Services to send 15 more physicians to the hospital. Some 15 doctors have joined the hospital in the past week.

Of them, 39 are from Rajshahi, eight from Chapainawabganj, four from Natore, five from Naogaon and two from Kushtia.

Forty-three people were discharged from the hospital after recovery during the period.
Besides, 325 people are undergoing treatment against 273 beds at the Corona unit of the hospital.
Of them, 189 are from Rajshahi, 82 from Chapainawabganj, 17 from Natore, 26 from Naogaon, four from Pabna, six from Kushtia and one from Chuadanga.

Twenty-six people were discharged from the hospial after recovery during the period. 307 people have been undergoing treatment at the hospital against 271 beds at the Corona unit of the hospital.

However, the hospital authorities are providing treatment after arranging additional beds, said Shamim. “Only those who need oxygen facilities are being admitted to the hospital due to shortage of beds,” he said.

Two of the deceased hailed from Rajshahi, six from Chapainawabganj, three from Naogaon and one each from Natore and Kushtia districts, he added.
So far, 125 people, including 70 Covid-19 patients, have died at the Corona unit of the hospital from June 1 till June 13.
Forty-two new patients have got admitted to the hospital in the past 24 hours while 35 have been discharged.

Fifteen more people died of Covid-19 at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in 24 hours until 8 am on Friday as infections and deaths continue to soar in the frontier districts.
A weeklong lockdown was announced from 5pm on Friday by the local administration to stem the spread of the virus.
Of the deceased, eight were from Rajshahi, six from Chapainawabganj and one from Natore, said deputy director of the hospital Dr. Saiful Ferdous.

Of the deceased, seven were Covid-19 positive patients and others were under treatment with Covid-like symptoms, he said.
Dr. Saiful said in the last 11 days 108 patients died in the hospital’s Covid-19 unit.
Forty-three new patients were admitted to the hospital’s Coovid-19 unit during the period.
Besides, 297 patients were registered against 271 beds of the Covid-19 ward until Thursday morning, said the hospital authority.

Of the patients, 142 were from Rajshahi, 110 from Chapainawabganj, 24 from Naogaon, 15 from Natore, and three each were from Kushtia and Pabna.
Eighteen patients are undergoing treatment the ICU unit of the hospital.

The government has decided to keep passenger train services between Rajshahi and other parts of the country suspended from Friday in the wake of the increased detection rate of Covid-19 infection in the frontier districts.
The suspension of services will be effective until midnight past June 17, Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman, director (public relations) of Bangladesh Railway, said Thursday.
Bangladesh Railway came up with the announcement as the local administration has imposed an all-out lockdown in the Rajshahi city for a week, starting 5pm Friday, amid a spike in Covid-19 infections there.

No vehicle will be allowed into Rajshahi city and transports cannot leave the area. However, emergency vehicles are exempt from the lockdown.
Rajshahi division confirmed 815 daily cases – the highest in the country — in the past 24 hours until Thursday morning. Eight people died from Covid-19 there during the same period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

On May 24, regular train services across the country were resumed after suspension of over a month as part of the government restrictions on people's movement to curb coronavirus transmission. However, the authorities were asked to keep 50% of seats vacant for ensuring social distancing.
On April 5, passenger train services were suspended across the country as part of a countrywide lockdown – imposed to tackle the second wave of infection.
7 more Covid-19 patients die at RMCH
Seven more Covid patients died in the past 24 hours until Monday morning at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH), health officials said on Monday.
Of the deceased, three were from Chapainawabganj district and one each from Rajshahi, Natore, Pabna and Naogaon district.

With the fresh deaths, 60 people have died in the Rajshahi division since June 1.
Deputy Director of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital, Saiful Ferdous, said, “232 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital. Of them, 18 are in the ICU."
In the past 24 hours, some 20 people have been admitted to the hospital with Covid-19 symptoms.

Of them, 16 are from Rajshahi district, three from Chapainawabganj and one from Naogaon district, said sources at the hospital.
Dr. Saiful said 241 people of the three districts came out positive in 605 tests in two labs on Sunday.
Of them, nine people tested positive after test of 44 samples from Chapainawabganj and 35 tested positive after testing 84 samples from Naogaon district.

In Rajshahi, 197 people came out positive after test of 477 samples in two labs in Rajshahi on Saturday night.
The positivity rate in the district declined to 41.29% on Sunday from Saturday’s 50.27% . On Friday, the positivity rate in this district was 49.43%.
