Female teacher’s throat-slit body recovered in Rangamati
Police recovered the throat-slit body of an indigenous female school teacher from her own house in Longdu upazila in Rangamati on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Pensy Chakma, 35, teacher of a school run by UNICEF and daughter of Debdash Chakma, said Ariful Amin, Officer-in-Charge of Longdu police station
The body was recovered from her home at Ultachari hilly area at Atarakchara ward-8 in the upazila
Babu Ajay Mitra Chakma, chairman of Atarakchara Union Parishad, said Pensy used to work as a local community worker for UNICEF and used to live alone.

“On Sunday morning some children went to get tuition in her house they found the body and locals later called police,” said the UP chairman.
“The matter is under investigation and the culprits will be identified soon,” said OC Ariful Amin.
One killed, three injured in Chandpur wall collapse
A 65-year-old worker was killed and three others were injured in a wall collapse at Baghadite in Chandpur sadar Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shahjahan Gazi while the injured were Hamid Gazi, 32, Lition Gazi, 50, and Kamal Befari, 45. All of them were residents of the Baghadite.

Sources said a brick-made wall fell on them while they were digging mud for the renovation of Hajji Bari Jame Masjid in Baghadite area at around 10:00am.
Locals rescued them and rushed to Chandpur sadar hospital where doctors declared Shahjahan Gazi dead, said Dr Sujauddola Rubel, resident medical officer of the hospital.
College student killed in Narayanganj road accident
A college student was killed when a cement-laden truck crushed his motorcycle in front of Muskan Motor Shop in North Kashipur area under Fatullah police station in Narayanganj on Friday at about 1:30pm.
The deceased was identified as Asif Iqbal Hridoy, son of late Tofazzal Hossain Pintu of Katakhali area in Munshiganj Sadar upazila. He used to be an honor's third year student at the Zoology department of Government Haraganga College of Munshiganj.
Md Sabbir, who was on the motorcycle with Asif, was critically injured.
According to the police, Asif's motorcycle first ran into the extended wall of Muskan Motors, and fell on the road. Asif died on the spot when a truck of Shah Cement factory ran over his body from behind.

According to Shohag Chowdhury, a Sub-inspector of Fatullah Model Police Station, the truck has been seized and its driver has been detained.
"Asif’s body has been sent to the Narayanganj Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. Besides, legal procedures are also underway,” said Shohag.
Flood: 3 more deaths pushes up toll to 95
Flood claimed three more lives in Mymensingh, Netrokona and Sunamganj in 24 hours till Friday morning, raising the total fatalities to 95.
Of the deceased, two drowned while another died from lightning strike, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the total deceased, 68 people died by drowning in floodwater, 15 from lightning strikes, two from snake bites, one from diarrhoea, and nine due to other reasons.
The total deaths were recorded from May 17 to June 30.

Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting & Warning Centre of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) said all major rivers in the north-eastern region of the country are in a falling trend, which may continue falling in the next 24 hours.
However, the Brahmaputra River is in a steady state, while the Jamuna River and Padma River are on the rising trend. These rivers may rise in the next 24-48 hours.
The flood situation in Kurigram, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona, Kishoreganj and Brahmanbaria districts may improve in the next 24 hours, it added in their latest report.

Flood claimed another life in the country in 24 hours till Wednesday morning, raising the total fatalities to 88.
The latest victim died by drowning in floodwater in Netrokona , according to the Directorate general of Health services (DGHS).

Among the deceased, 62 people have died by drowning in floodwater, 14 from lightning strike, two from snake biting, one from diarrhoea, and nine due to other reasons.
The total deaths were recorded from May 17 to June 29.
Meanwhile, Flood Forecasting & Warning Centre of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) said there is chance of heavy rainfall at places of the northern and north-eastern Bangladesh along with Assam, Meghalaya and Sub-Himalayan West-Bengal (Jalpaiguri, Sikkim) of India in next 24-48 hours.

Flood situation in the northern region and low-lying areas of the central region, including Sylhet and Sunamganj districts, may slighty deteriorate, it said in their latest warning.
However, the flood situation is unlikely to worsen further after mid-July, reports Bangladesh Weather Observation Team – BWOT, an independent weather research group.
University admission seeker killed in city road crash
A university admission seeker was killed and another man was injured after a truck hit their motorcycle in the capital's Shahbagh area early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Mohaiminul Islam Sifat, 22, son of Hanif Khandaker, a resident of North Manikdi in the city.
Deceased's friend Fuhad said Sifat and his friend Mehedi were going to a restaurant in Old Dhaka to take dinner riding on a motorcycle.
When they reached Goni Road area of Shahbagh, the speeding truck hit the motorcycle, leaving Sifat and Mehedi injured.

Sifat was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Mehedi received primary treatment at the hospital.
The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy, said Bachchu Miah, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
Swechchhasebak League president Nirmal Ranjan dies in Singapore
Nirmal Ranjan Guha, the president of Bangladesh Awami Swechchhasebak League, passed away at a hospital in Singapore on Wednesday morning. He was 58.
Nirmal had been suffering from hypertension, and he was admitted to Bangladesh Specialized Hospital on June 12 after he fell sick.
He was admitted to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on June 16, where he died this morning, said Swechchhasebak League general secretary Afzalur Rahman Babu.
Nirmal is survived by his wife and two sons.
Bangladesh Awami Swechchhasebak League is the volunteer wing of the ruling Awami League.
Death toll from flood reaches 87
Flood claimed three more lives in different parts of the country in 24 hours till Tuesday morning, raising the total fatalities to 87.
One of them died in Rangpur division, one in Dhaka division and one in Sylhet division, according to the Directorate general of Health services (DGHS).
Among the deceased, 61 people have died by drowning in floodwater and two from snake biting, one from diarrhoea,14 from lightning strike and nine died of other reasons.
The total deaths were recorded from May 17 to June 28.
According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, all the major rivers in the country are in falling trend except the Teesta, which may continue in next 48 hours.

In the next 24-72 hours, there is a chance of heavy rainfall at places of the northern Bangladesh and Sub-Himalayan West-Bengal (Jalpaiguri, Sikkim) of India. As a result, the water level of major rivers of northern Bangladesh (Teesta, Upper Atrai, Dharla, Dudhkumar, Upper Karotoa, Tangon, Punarbhaba and Kulikh) may rise rapidly during this period.
The Teesta River may rise and remain above or close to danger level at Dalia Point in next 24-48 hours.
Flood situation in the Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona, Kishoreganj & B. Baria districts may continue improving in next 24 hours.
College teacher ‘beaten by students with cricket stump’ dies in Savar
A college teacher, who suffered critical injuries allegedly after some students beat him up with a cricket stump in Savar, died at Enam Medical College and Hospital in the early hours of Monday.
The deceased was identified as Utpal Kumar, hailing from Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district.
Nasir Uddin, operation theatre in-charge of Enam Medical College and Hospital, said Utpal breathed his last while undergoing treatment around 6:00 am on Monday.
Utpal was a lecturer of the Humanities Department of Hazi Yunus Ali School and College in Kathaltola area of Ashulia’s Jamgora, he added.
Police said every year Hazi Yunus Ali School and College arranged a cricket match on Saturday.
"Around 2pm, some students suddenly hit Utpal with a cricket stump while he was standing on one side of the field following previous enmity, leaving him seriously injured,” he said.

Later, Utpal was rescued and admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medicla College and Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The accused, students of the same institution, have been absconding since the incident.
Efforts are on to arrest the suspects, said Emdadul Haque, sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station.
Man dies after falling off under-construction building in Chattogram
A 40-year-old man died after falling of an under-construction building at Khulshi of Chattogram port city on Sunday, said police.
The deceased was identified as Md Yusuf, a diploma engineer by profession.

Sadequr Rahman, inspector of Pachlaish Police Station of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, said Yusuf sustained serious injuries when he fell from the sixth floor of an under-conduction building located on Technical Road in Khulshi area.
Later, he was taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
