India wins toss and will bat against Netherlands at Cricket World Cup
India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first against the Netherlands in the final league game of the Cricket World Cup on Sunday.
India is atop the points’ standings with 16 points from eight wins – the only unbeaten side in the tournament. It will be aiming for a clean sweep in the league stage ahead of the semi-finals, where the two-time champions will take on fourth-placed New Zealand in the first semi-final at Mumbai on Nov. 15.
Second-placed South Africa will take on five-time champions Australia, which finished the league stage in third place, in the second semifinal at Kolkata on Nov. 16.

The Netherlands has four points from eight games from its two wins against South Africa and Bangladesh. It is placed tenth in the standings and needs a win against India to move to six points and edge out eighth-placed Bangladesh, which would confirm its qualification for the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
The top eight teams in the league stage of this World Cup qualify for the Champions Trophy.
India is unchanged from its previous game against South Africa in Kolkata, which it won by a huge 243 runs.
The Netherlands also fielded an unchanged team from its previous game against England in Pune, which it lost by 160 runs.

A capacity crowd is expected at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium with the match cooinciding with the auspicious festival of Diwali.
Star Indian batter Virat Kohli will again be in the spotlight – he has scored 543 runs in eight matches, third highest in the tournament thus far.
More importantly, he is currently on 49 ODI centuries and level with compatriot and Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar, with a Sunday full-house anticipating a record 50th hundred at his adopted home ground. He plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.
The Bengaluru pitch should aid batters, and Kohli in his endeavour. A high scoring game could be in the offing, with chasing under lights preferable at this venue.
Lineups:
India: Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Lokesh Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj

Bangladesh's Overall Performance Analysis in the ICC World Cup 2023
Bangladesh finished their 2023 World Cup journey with an eight-wicket loss to Australia in Pune on Saturday, November 11. They were already eliminated from the semi-finals competition and finished third position in the points table, and their chance for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is still shaky. Is it Bangladesh's worst-ever performance in a World Cup campaign? Let's see their overall performance and what went wrong.
Bangladesh's Overall Performance Analysis in the 2023 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup
In this World Cup, Bangladesh has experienced more disappointments than victories. They began with a win against Afghanistan but lost six consecutive games. However, they won the eighth match against Sri Lanka but lost the last game by 8 wickets to Australia.
Bangladesh is currently in the 8th position in the points table, and they are still in danger of not getting the chance to participate in the eight-nation 50-over format tournament, which will take place in February 2025 in Pakistan. If the Netherlands beats India, Bangladesh will not have any chance to appear in the Champions Trophy.

Bangladesh vs England
This match took place on October 10, 2023, at HPCA Stadium. After losing the toss, England was sent to bat first, and they managed to score 364 runs while losing 9 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Although Bangladesh couldn't put much pressure on the English team at the beginning of their innings, they managed to bowl well towards the end. Otherwise, England could have easily scored more than 400 runs. England added 70 runs in the last 65 balls of their innings, with Bangladesh taking seven wickets. Shariful Islam took 3 wickets, and Sheikh Mehdi Hasan, who replaced Mahmudullah, took 4 wickets for 71 runs.
But Bangladeshi top orders failed miserably while Liton Das scored 76 runs from 66 balls. In addition to Liton, Mushfiqur Rahim contributed 51 runs, and Towhid Hridoy scored 39 runs for Bangladesh. However, most of the other players only managed to score in the single digits or low double digits.
Bangladesh vs New Zealand
Bangladesh batted first at MA Chidambaram Stadium on October 13 and scored 245 runs for nine wickets. In response, New Zealand successfully chased down this target with 43 balls to spare. Kane Williamson scored 78 runs, and Daryl Mitchell contributed 89 runs for the New Zealand team.
Bangladesh faced early trouble in the match, with Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson causing them to struggle at 56 runs for four wickets by the 13th over. Captain Shakib Al Hasan, who scored 40 runs off 51 balls, then built a partnership of 96 runs with his experienced teammate Mushfiqur Rahim, who made 66 runs off 75 balls. This partnership helped Bangladesh reach a total of 156 runs by the 30th over.
Bangladesh vs India
Bangladesh faced India on October 19 at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. Batting first, Bangladesh had a strong opening stand as two openers, Tanzid Hasan and Liton Das, made a 93 runs partnership. Tanzid scored 51 runs, achieved his first ODI fifty, and Liton Das scored 66 runs.
Later, Bangladesh lost four wickets in 137 runs, and after that, Mushfique scored 38 and Mahmudullah scored 46 runs. Bangladesh ended up scoring 256 runs from 8 wickets. However, this was not a fighting score, and India reached the victory in just 41.3 overs.
Bangladesh vs South Africa
Despite Mahmudullah's 111 runs from 111 balls, Bangladesh lost by a margin of 143 runs to South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on October 24. It was Bangladesh's fourth consecutive loss. South Africa batted first and scored a massive 382 runs for five wickets. For the Bangladesh team, Hasan Mahmud managed to take two wickets, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Shoriful Islam, and Shakib Al Hasan each secured one wicket. In batting, other than Mahmudullah, no Bangladeshi players had significant scores.
England elects to bat first against Pakistan
England has won the toss and elected to bat against Pakistan as both teams aim to bow out of the Cricket World Cup with a win on Saturday.
England had a forgettable title defense with only two wins from eight games after starting with a thumping nine-wicket loss to New Zealand in a rematch of the 2019 final. England’s run in India also included a streak of five consecutive losses.
Pakistan also struggled in the tournament, losing four games in a row, including an eight-wicket defeat against Afghanistan and a narrow one-wicket loss to South Africa at Chennai.
Pakistan has eight points from four wins and is effectively out of the semifinal race after England chose to bat first as Babar Azam’s Pakistan has no chance to overtake fourth-place New Zealand on net run-rate.
England captain Jos Buttler wanted to bat first on a dry wicket at Eden Gardens and hoped to put up a strong total against struggling Pakistan bowlers.
“Nice to break a losing streak, want to leave India with our heads held high,” Buttler said.
It will be the last ODI international for David Willey, who has already announced his retirement after the World Cup.
“An emotional day for David Willey, so we talked about trying to enjoy it and take it all in,” Buttler said as England went with an unchanged side that defeated Bangladesh in the last game to end its five-match losing streak.
Pakistan recalled fit-again legspinner Shadab Khan, who has recovered from a concussion, and replaced fast bowler Hasan Ali.
At Pune, Bangladesh batters finally clicked for one last time as it progressed to 283-5 in 46 overs after semifinal-bound Australia won the toss and chose to field.
Towhid Hridoy was unbeaten on 74 off 78 balls with stand-in captain Najmul Hossain Shanto also making a useful 45.
The opening pair of Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan provided Bangladesh with a solid start of 76 as both batters scored 36 runs each. Australia’s star spinner Adam Zampa bowled another economical spell of 2-32, claiming the wickets of Hasan and Mushfqur Rahim.
Australia made two changes. Glenn Maxwell, double-century hero of its win over Afghanistan in Mumbai, was rested, as was pace bowler Mitchell Starc. Fit-again Steve Smith and pacer Sean Abbott were included in the playing 11.
Shanto is leading Bangladesh, with left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed included. It has made two other changes — pacer Mustafizur Rahman and batting all-rounder Mahedi Hasan also come in for bowlers Tanzim Hasan Shakib and Shoriful Islam.
India will try to remain the only perfect team in the tournament by winning its ninth straight match when it plays the Netherlands at Bengaluru on Sunday. It will be the 45th and final match of the preliminary stage which began Oct. 5 and featured all 10 teams playing the others once.
Second-place South Africa finished with 14 points from seven wins in nine games. Australia can overtake the Proteas for second spot if they beat Bangladesh on Saturday by a big margin, but regardless they will still play each other in the semifinals at Kolkota next Thursday.
India is set to face fourth-place New Zealand in the first semifinal in Mumbai on Wednesday.
The final is set for next Sunday, Nov. 19, at Ahmedabad’s 132,000-capacity Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest cricket venue in the world.
On Saturday, the ICC said that with six matches to go, more than a million fans had attended the tournament. It said the millionth fan came through the turnstiles during the match between Afghanistan and South Africa at Ahmedabad on Friday, a match the Proteas won by five wickets.

Preview of BAN vs. AUS ODI in ICC World Cup 2023
In the 43rd game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Bangladesh will play against Australia on November 11 at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. The match will start at 11 am Bangladesh time. Australia, who has won the championship five times before, wants to keep doing well so they can enter strongly in the semifinals. In their last game against Afghanistan, Australia had a record win where they turned things around and won when it seemed like they might lose. On the other hand, Bangladesh won against Sri Lanka in their previous game, but unfortunately, they won’t be moving on to the next round of the tournament.
Bangladesh vs. Australia ODI in the 2023 World Cup: Match Preview
Bangladesh’s World Cup journey is almost over. They came to India with the hope of making it to the semifinals, but unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. The team’s confidence has taken a hit with consecutive defeats. After losing six times in a row, their dream of reaching the semifinals is no longer achievable, even though they won against Sri Lanka.
Shakib Al Hasan won’t be playing for Bangladesh in the upcoming match in Pune. The team will take on Australia on November 11, but they’ll be without Shakib due to an injury, which comes as a surprise and a setback for them. Anamul Haque has been called up for the last match.
In the upcoming game, Najmul Hossain Shanto will be leading the Bangladesh side. Even though Bangladesh secured a victory by three wickets in the last game against Sri Lanka, what will stand out more is the controversy over how Angelo Mathews was dismissed. Though Bangladesh won’t be in the running for the semifinals, Shanto will aim to perform well in this match and end the tournament on a positive note.
On the other hand, against all expectations, Pat Cummins’ team pulled off a surprising win against Afghanistan in the last game, winning by three wickets. It was a tough situation, with Australia losing seven wickets for less than 100 runs during a significant run chase. But the Australian team’s confidence in themselves helped them come out on top. Now that they’ve reached the semifinals, the Aussies are aiming for a strong win to boost their momentum before the important upcoming match.
However, Australian bowling hasn’t been performing at its peak in this tournament. To get back on track, they’ll rely on Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood to deliver a solid performance with the new ball. Adam Zampa has been doing a good job and will aim to bowl tightly in the middle overs along with Cummins. The presence of Maxwell and Marsh adds strength to this bowling attack.

In the 2023 Cricket World Cup, Bangladesh’s performance has been below average. They started strong with a convincing six-wicket victory over Afghanistan, where Shanto and Mehidy Hasan shone with the bat. However, their momentum was disrupted by England, who posted a challenging total of 364 runs. Despite a brave effort from Litton Das and others, Bangladesh fell short. The trend continued as New Zealand successfully chased Bangladesh’s target of 245 runs, and a strong opening partnership against India wasn’t enough as they succumbed to a defeat. Mahmudullah’s century against South Africa couldn’t prevent another loss and defeats to the Netherlands and Pakistan marked a challenging campaign for Bangladesh in the tournament. But Bangladesh seemed to be confident at the end as they won the last match against Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh vs New Zealand ODI Series Recap
This upcoming Test series is a part of the New Zealand tour of Bangladesh that started with the ODI series on September 21, 2023, and paused with the third ODI match on September 26, 2023.
Bangladesh lost the series by 2-0 as the first match was abandoned due to rain. In the first ODI held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on September 21, rain played spoilsport, and the match ended without a result, with New Zealand posting a total of 136/5 in 33.4 overs. Will Young's steady 58 off 91 deliveries and Mustafizur Rahman's 3/27 with the ball were notable highlights.
The second ODI, also in Dhaka, was a different story as New Zealand batted first and set a target of 255. For New Zealand, Tom Blundell scored 68, and Ish Sodhi took a historic 6 wickets for 39 runs. Bangladesh's response fell short, with Mahedi Hasan taking 3/45, and New Zealand emerged victorious by 86 runs, marking their first ODI win in Bangladesh since 2008.
The third ODI, again in Dhaka, saw Bangladesh posting a target of 171 runs. New Zealand bowler Adam Milne's 4/34 performance stopped Bangladesh from scoring big. However, New Zealand chased down the target with ease, powered by Will Young's 70 off 80 balls, and they won by seven wickets, securing the series. The series had its share of debutants and prominent records, including Khaled Ahmed and Zakir Hasan's ODI debuts and Ish Sodhi's exceptional bowling feat. Additionally, Najmul Hossain Shanto led the Bangladeshi side for the first time in ODIs, adding a layer of significance to the series. Overall, the series showcased the competitive spirit and talent on display from both teams, leaving fans eagerly waiting for their future encounters.
Final Words
While Bangladesh has yet to announce the squad, New Zealand, on the other hand, has announced a balanced 15-man squad featuring a mix of experience and promising talent. With the background of the ICC World Test Championship, this New Zealand tour of Bangladesh holds significant importance for both teams' aspirations in the tournament.

“He underwent an emergency X-ray in Delhi after the game which confirmed the fracture on the left PIP joint. Recovery is estimated at three to four weeks. He will leave for Bangladesh today to begin his rehab,” he said.
Despite the adversity, Shakib shone, scoring 82 off 65 balls and steering his team to a hard-fought three-wicket triumph against Sri Lanka in yesterday's World Cup match.

India all-rounder and vice-captain Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the Cricket World Cup in a blow to the so-far unbeaten host's campaign for a third title.
