Dozens dead, people starving, roads collapsing, relief inadequate in 3 northern districts
Residents of three northern districts who were among the first to bear the brunt of flooding caused by onrushing waters from upstream rivers saw no respite Sunday, as large parts of Kurigram, Shariatpur and Sunamganj remain inundated, with millions still marooned and their lives in dire straits.
Flood situation worsens in Faridpur, Kurigram
The flood situation in Faridpur and Kurigram has worsened with the rise of water in Padma, Dharla and Brahmmaputra rivers, leaving over 300,000 people marooned.
In Kurigram, the Brahmmaputra River is flowing 91cm and 81cm above the danger level at Chilmari and Nunkhawa points. The Dharla River is flowing 62cm above its danger mark at Bridge point.
This has led to flooding of many new areas in Chilmari upazila, causing immense sufferings to the people.
Meanwhile, 475 villages under 56 unions of the district have been affected by flood water, rendering 300,000 people marooned.
Some 50,000 people have taken shelter on roads, flood control embankment and shelter centres in the district.
Rivers swell as flood worsens; child drowns
A child drowned on Monday as the overall flood condition worsened due to persistent swelling of the major Rivers in the country.
Kurigram Agrani & Islami banks put under lockdown
The local administration has put the Kurigram Agrani Bank Limited and Islami Bank Limited under lockdown from Sunday morning following the increase in numbers of Covid-19 infection among the employees.

The overall flood situation in Lalmonirhat, Sunamganj, Kurigram and Nilphamari has worsened due to an increase of the water level after rainfall, leaving hundreds of thousands of people marooned.
River erosion intensifies in Kurigram after flood
Although flood situation has improved in Kurigram and 16 rivers including Brahmaputra, Dharla and Teesta are flowing below the danger mark in the last few days, river erosion has taken a serious turn in the district.
Sardob, Mogholbasa and Nunkhawa flood control embankments were damaged due to erosion by the Brahmaputra, Teesta and Dharla rivers in the last few days.
1.5 lakh marooned in Kurigram as flood situation worsens
The water level in the Brahmaputra and Dharla rivers swelled further as of Monday morning, leaving around 1.5 lakh people marooned in the district.
Officials at Bangladesh Water Development Board said the Brahmaputra was flowing 77cm above its danger level at Chilmari point while 64 cm above at Nun Khawa point.

Flash floods inundate parts of Sunamganj town; 250 villages flooded in Kurigram
Flash floods triggered by onrush of water from the upstream and heavy rains have inundated low-lying areas in different upazilas in Sunamganj district.
Besides, 250 villages have been flooded in Kurigram district, rendering over 75,000 people marooned as the Brahmaputra and the Dharla Rivers are flowing above the danger level.
In Sunamganj, The Surma and the Jadukata rivers are flowing above the danger level on Saturday.
The Surma River was flowing 46cm above the danger level at 9am while Jadukata River was flowing 57cm above the danger level.
