New Delhi mission pays homage to Sheikh Kamal
Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Thursday paid homage to valiant freedom fighter Captain Sheikh Kamal on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
Capt. Sheikh Kamal was assassinated along with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most members of his family on the brutal night of August 15 in 1975.
The 72nd birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal was observed with due solemnity through holding of discussion and placing wreaths at his portraits at Bangabandhu Corner at the chancery building.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Muhammad Imran led the officers and staff of the mission in laying the wreaths.
Bangabandhu Corner to be established at Lovely Professional University in Punjab
A Bangabandhu Corner will be established at “Lovely Professional University” in Punjab, one of the largest private universities in India.
The Bangabandhu Corner will gradually be converted into a centre as agreed by the university authorities.
The decision was taken in a meeting between Muhammad Imran, Bangladesh High Commissioner to India and Ashok Mittal, Chancellor of the University, said the Bangladesh High Commission on Tuesday.
The initiatives have been taken to mark the celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Lovely Professional University has around 35 thousand students including more than three thousand foreign students from over 50 countries in its 600 – acre campus.
Aug 15 carnage: PM says conspirators’ names to come out one day
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said the names of conspirators behind Bangabandhu’s assassination will come out one day, mentioning that there was a link between Khondaker Mostaq and Ziaur Rahman.
"The trial of the killing has been held but the conspiracy has not yet been unearthed. It’ll come out one day for sure," she said.

The prime minister said this while opening a voluntary blood, plasma donation and food distribution programme arranged by the Bangladesh Krishak League in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi-32. She inaugurated and addressed the programme virtually from her official residence Ganobhaban.
Krishak League arranged the voluntary programme and discussion as part of a month-long programme of Awami League and its associate organizations marking the National Mourning Day commemorating the martyrdom of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Sheikh Hasina, also the chief of ruling Awami League, said her prime task was to put the killers, involved directly, under trial and materialise the dreams of the Father of the Nation regarding the country and its people.
Hasina, the eldest daughter of Bangabandhu, said she did not go to the path of digging out who was behind the conspiracy. "My first priority was to change the fate of poor and hungry people, and improve their livelihoods."
Paris Mission receives Public Administration Award
Bangladesh Embassy in Paris has received the Public Administration Award for its collective contributions in internationalizing the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at UNESCO.
The members of the Embassy team are Bangladesh Ambassador to France and Permanent Delegate of Bangladesh to UNESCO Kazi Imtiaz Hossain, Minister (Political) S M Mahbubul Alam, First Secretary and HoC Dayamayee Chakraborty and First Secretary Nirjhar Adhikary.
Ambassador Kazi Imtiaz Hossain received the award on behalf of the Embassy team.
The award was given in general category considering administrative and diplomatic efforts of the Embassy marking the Public Administration Day.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined (virtually) the function held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city on Tuesday .
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque who joined the function in person handed over the awards to a total of 35 individuals and institutions for the year in 2020 and 2021 on behalf of the Prime Minister.
State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain chaired the function.
The establishment of the “UNESCO-Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Prize for the Creative Economy” was unanimously approved by acclamation at the 210th session of UNESCO’s Executive Board.

Named after the Father of the nation of Bangladesh, the UNESCO-Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Prize for the Creative Economy will award, every two years, US$50,000 to an individual or organization with recognised excellence in nurturing entrepreneurship among young people in the cultural and creative industries.
The first iteration of the Prize will be awarded in the fall of 2021 during UNESCO’s 41st General Conference 9-24 November 2021 to mark the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development.
Momen addresses IUT Freshers' reception
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has urged the students to follow the health directives while continuing their pursuit of knowledge so that when the right time comes they can come forward as an asset to humanity.
“The world is passing through an unprecedented time due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But at the same time, we are all moving forward to achieve our goals through adaptation and innovation in this changed reality,” he said.
The Foreign Minister was addressing the freshers’ reception ceremony of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) on Saturday.

Bangabandhu Lounge opened at Bangladesh Permanent Mission at UN
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has inaugurated the newly established Bangabandhu Lounge at the Bangladesh Permanent Mission at the United Nations (UN) in New York.
The lounge has been set up marking the observance of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary.

“The lounge houses a rich collection of books, photos, documentaries, and graphical displays on the life and work of the Father of the Nation. It demonstrates Bangabandhu’s trust and faith in multilateralism; particularly the UN,” said Dr Momen on Monday.
AL to observe six-point day on Monday
Bangladesh Awami League will observe the historic six-point day on Monday to mark the launching of the charter by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1966.
A press release from the ruling party said it will pay homage at the portrait of Bangabandhu at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban premises at Dhanmondi at 9 am.

The party will hoist the national and party flags on the premises of the central office in Dhaka and its offices across the country.
Obaidul Quader, general secretary of Awami League, has urged all to unitedly build a developed, prosperous and welfare state under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He also instructed all party and associate body leaders, activists, followers to observe the day maintaining the proper Covid-19 health protocols.

Bangabandhu launched his historic six-point movement, known as a charter of freedom for Bengalis, for greater autonomy for then-East Pakistan in 1966.
The movement was a turning point in Bangladesh's struggle for independence and freedom from Pakistani colonial domination.

Dhaka to host World Peace Conference in November
Bangladesh will host a two-day world peace conference in November this year, marking the ongoing birth centenary celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of promoting a culture of peace and tolerance.
Bangabandhu Peace Award will be introduced and conferred during the conference.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said this while addressing a discussion at Foreign Service Academy, marking the anniversary of Bangabandhu's Joliot Curie Peace Prize given in recognition of his contributions to world peace.

The Father of the Nation, who was a proponent of peace and addressing problems with dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful resolution of conflicts, was awarded the medal on May 23, 1973. It was the first international award to the newly-independent Bangladesh.

Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Sunday observed the 47th anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s Joliot Curie Peace Prize given in recognition of his contributions to world peace.
The Father of the Nation was awarded the medal on May 23 in 1973. It was the first international award to the newly-independent Bangladesh.
The officers and employees of the mission, led by High Commissioner Muhammad Imran paid homage to Bangabandhu in the mission premises, said a media release.
Bangabandhu’s grandson Radwan Mujib turns 41
Radwan Mujib Siddiq, the grandson of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and trustee of Centre for Research & Information (CRI), has turned 41 as his birthday falls on May 21.
Radwan, the eldest among three children of Bangabandhu’s younger daughter Sheikh Rehana and academician Shafiq Ahmed Siddique, was born on May 21, 1980.
His sister Tulip Siddiq is a British MP representing London’s Hampstead and Kilburn.
Their father Shafiq had worked at several universities in Bangladesh and abroad.
Followers keep greeting him soon after zero hour as CRI and Young Bangla shared two messages on their verified Facebook pages greeting Radwan.
Radwan is credited with initiating creative and analytic projects – from architecting Mujib graphic novel to co-producing the docufiction Hasina: A Daughter’s Tale to bringing forth Joy Bangla Concert to editing the country’s policy-based magazine WhiteBoard.

The trend he set in motion of presenting history in the form of stories, films, and concerts revived the interest of the young generation in the country’s history.
Mujib Graphic Novel, based on the unfinished memoir of Bangabandhu, is the first of its kind in the country, presenting history to the kids as comics.
