Bank official killed in Magura road crash
A bank official was killed in a road accident at Ganganalia on Magura-Sreepur road on Sunday evening.
The deceased was identified as Md Ujjal Hossain, an officer (cash) of Agrani Bank Sreepur branch and son of Abdur Razzak of Bara Salai village under Kuchiamora union of Magura Sadar upazila.
Witnesses said motorcyclist Ujjal and his co-rider Abhik Majumder fell from the motorbike when Ujjal was trying to overtake a three-wheeler around 7:30 pm.

Ujjal was crushed under the wheels of the three wheeler and died on the spot.
Magura Sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Manjur Alam said that the body of was kept at the morgue of Magura Sadar Hospital after recovery.

A case was filed at Magura police station, he said.
AL suspends 8 leaders in Magura
The Awami League (AL) has suspended eight of its leaders for filling nominations for the upcoming union parishad election in Magura.
AL has already declared its official candidate for the upcoming UP polls in the district.
General Secretary of Magura district AL, Pankaj Kumar Kundu told reporters Friday that the eight party leaders of the local unit were suspended for breaching the outfit's organisational discipline.

The suspended party leaders are Md Benazir Ahmed of Atharokhada ward-2, Md Baki Billah Santu of Kasundi ward-3, Md Mizanur Rahman Ranju of Moghi ward-7, Md Zahidul Islam Zahid of Jagdal ward-8, Md Jahangir Hossain, Md Enamul Haque Raja of Beroil Palita ward-11, Md Tipu Sultan of Kunchia Mura ward-12, and Md Milon Hossain.
"Any AL member who will work for these leaders will also be suspended from their membership and all other positions of the party," said Pankaj.

All the assistant bodies and organisations of AL in Magura have been asked to strictly follow the party's directions, he added.
4 killed, 30 injured in clash over UP polls in Magura
At least four people were killed and 30 others injured on Friday in a clash between supporters of two rival candidates in the upcoming Union Parsishad election at Jagodal village in Magura Sadar upazila.
The killed were identified as member candidate Sabur Molla, 50, his brother Kabir Molla, 55, his cousin Abdur Rahman, 50, and Imran Ali, 32.
Police said a clash broke out between supporters of both parties around 4pm for establishing dominance.

Tensions had been simmering in the area for the past three days as Sabur Mollah and his rival Nazrul Islam contesting for the same post in the upcoming UP elections.
Nine of the 30 injured have been admitted to Magura Sadar Hospital. Police have been deployed in the village as tension is prevailing in the area.
Manjurul Alam, Officer-in-Charge of Magura Sadar Police Station, said the bodies were sent to the morgue for autopsy.
A case has been filed with Magura police station in this regard. No arrests have been made so far, the OC added.
Mother, daughter killed in Magura road crash
A woman and her daughter were killed in a collision between a truck and a three wheeler on Magura-Shalikha road at Junary in Shalikha upazila of Magura district on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as Sharifa Khatun, 30, wife of Ibadul Islam of Kulum village of the upazila and her 10-month-old daughter Khadiza.

Two other passengers were also injured in the accident.
Police said when Sharifa along with her daughter was going to Shalika upazila headquarter in a rickshaw van the speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit their vehicle around 10am, leaving the two dead on the spot.

Police seized the killer truck and detained the helper of the truck. The truck driver managed to escape.
Tarak Nath Biswas, officer-in-charge of Shalikha Police Station, said a case was filed in this regard.
Magura court summons Sreepur OC for non-compliance of order
The Magura Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court has directed the OC of Sreepur Police Station to appear in person before the court within three days as he has not submitted a report on the trial of a case in Magura even after two and a half years.
Magura Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Judge M Zahid Hasan passed the order on Thursday to explain the pending matter.
Sukdeb Roy, the current officer-in-charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station, admitted receiving the court order in this regard.

According to the case, Abdullah Sheikh, son of Moslem Sheikh of Madanpur village in Sreepur upazila, used to make his living as a starter at Sreepur bus stand. On July 1 in 2018, 26 people of his village attacked him with weapons at the Sreepur bus, leaving Abdullah seriously injured.
The following day, his younger brother, Farooq Sheikh, filed a case with the Magura District Judge's Court.
However, the case was pending with the court due to the delay in police investigation.
Meanwhile, the 26th accused in the case, Naju Sheikh, 50, died after filing the case. On April 15, 2019, then Chief Judicial Magistrate Sunondo Bagchi wrote a letter to the Sreepur Police Station OC seeking a report on the accused's death.

Though two and a half years have elapsed, the Sreepur OC could not submit the report to the court.
Sreepur OC Sukdeb Roy said three OCs have been changed during this period.
"I don't know why the report has not been submitted so far. However, it must be explained as directed by the court," the OC added.
Bumper beans harvest and good price bring delight to Magura farmers
Bumper production of early winter vegetable beans and its fair price have brought delight for the farmers in Sadar upazila of Magura district.
According to the District Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), the soil and weather of Magura is more favourable for bean cultivation and as it is more profitable than other winter vegetables, most of the farmers have been involved in its cultivation.

This year the DAE has set a target to cultivate bean on 280 hectres of land in Magura and already 350 hectares of land have been brought under bean cultivation, said sources at DAE.
The growers have been successful in cultivating two new varieties of bean – Rupban and IPSA—in their lands which brought good luck for them.
The farmers have planted bean seeds at the end of Bangla month Joishtha. Generally, bean flowers blossom within 35-40 days of cultivation provided the weather remains favourable.

Women's Football: Magura beat Rajshahi 2-1 to reach semifinal
Magura beat hosts Rajshahi 2-1 Monday to reach the semifinal of the eight-team JFA-U-14 National Women's Football Championship 2021 as Group B champions.
Ishita put the winners ahead in the second minute (1-0); Rima added another in the 44th minute (2-0) at Rajshahi's Shahid Muktijoddha Smriti Stadium.
However, Shahida pulled one back for the hosts in the 46th minute (2-1).
Despite their first defeat in the competition, Rajshahi finished as Group B runners-up and reached the semifinal with six points from three matches along with Magura, who earned nine points from three encounters.

Magura, with an unbeaten record in the competition, will play against Group A runners-up Panchaharh in the second semifinal Tuesday at 4:30pm.

In Monday's other match, Khulna beat Faridpur 3-2 at the same venue in the afternoon.
Fatema, Selthia and Chamki scored one goal each for the winners; Swadhin netted two goals for Faridpur.

Limitless waste dumping vitiates Gorai river of Magura
The dumping of huge waste into Gorai River from adjacent Langalbandh Bazar in Sreepur upazila of Magura has continued for a long time. This has been polluting the river and the environment and spreading diseases, according to experts.
Langalbandh Bazar is located on the banks of the river Gorai at the endpoint of the two districts Magura and Jhenaidah. The river has been a dumping place for all the waste from the meat shop, the poultry shop, and the fish and kitchen market.

Cattle are slaughtered in the open place and wastes from the cattle are dumped on the bank of the river. As a result, there is a strong stench in the whole area. As there is no dumping station, cleaners and market traders are dumping garbage everywhere. Throwing garbage in different areas of the market has turned it into a garbage dump.
Moreover, the traders of the market are collecting the waste of the houses in the villages located near the market and dumping that in the rivers. And so, the environment-nature and biodiversity have been threatened and the entire area has suffered. Pedestrians coming from different areas have to endure the stench.

As there is no designated place for dumping garbage here, Gorai river has been bearing the brunt. A large pile of garbage can be seen there which, according to experts, cause pollution and harm the environment.
Rahmat Ali, owner of Bhai Bhai Computer and Digital Studio in the market, said the garbage should be dumped at designated places. Then the river will be saved.
Valiant freedom fighter Abdul Gafur Mandal said, as there is no waste disposal system in the market, the common people are unknowingly throwing these wastes in the river.

As a result, the river is getting polluted, the navigability is lost and the environment is losing its balance. Ordinary people are being harmed in many ways.
In this regard, Shailkupa Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kaniz Fatema Liza said a decision would be taken after inspecting the market as it is located between the two upazilas.
Abdul Halim Mollah, advisory chairman of the Bazaar Banik Samiti, said that the environment of the area was being polluted due to the dumping of garbage in the river as there was no designated place. The place of the cattle market was also full of garbage.

At the same time, ordinary pedestrians are constantly suffering due to the lack of adequate number of dustbins. Due to lack of enough space in the market, makeshift marts are being set up everywhere around the river.
Member Chand Ali said that most of the garbage in the market is brought and dumped in the open into Gorai River. This is the source of the strong foul smell. It is often seen that passengers are crossing the Naduria ferry ghat of Gorai River covering their noses with handkerchiefs.
Deb Kumar from Langalbandh area said the amount of garbage being dumped in the river has threatened the very existence of the river in the next 20 years.

However, the Sreepur Upazila administration said the market committee will be given the responsibility to dispose of the garbage at the designated place very soon. Even then, if the garbage is dumped into the river, action will be taken through the mobile court, he said.
Father dies after son pushes him to ground over family disputes: police
A visually impaired father died after by his son pushed him to the ground over family disputes in Mohammadpur Upazila of Magura on Thursday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Monoronjon Biswas,73.
He was a resident of Nohata Union of Mohammadpur Upazila.
Two people were arrested over the matter, confirmed Nasir Uddin, the Officer-in Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station.
“The father and son locked horns on a very silly matter today and at one stage Monoronjon fell on the ground after being pushed and was hit on the head,” he said.

“He got unconscious right after being pushed to the ground and was immediately rushed to a local medical facility where the on-duty doctor declared him dead,” the officer added.
However, he refused to draw any conclusion without an investigation on whether the son intentionally killed his father or if it was an unfortunate accident.
He also informed that a case was filed over the incident.
Massive fire breaks out in Magura plywood factory
A massive fire broke out at Alamin Plywood Industries Limited factory in Magura’s Shalikha upazila.
The incident occurred on Monday morning at around 8.30 am.
No casualties were reported but a loss of Tk 95 lakh occurred, claimed factory administrative officer Ahsan Ullah.
On information, three units of the fire service brought the fire under control after two hours of effort.

Magura Fire Service Station Officer Sohag Uzzaman Zaman said the fire might have originated from an electrical short circuit and later spread to the door unit.
The exact extent of the damage can be said after an investigation.
The fire gutted 35 drums of thermic oil at the door production unit, 10 machines used for door production, 50 motors and various equipment reserved for door production, said Masood Rana, door production officer of the factory.

Shalikha Police Station officer-in-charge Hossain Al Mahbub said that he rushed to the spot with a team of police as he heard of the incident. It was initially suspected that the fire could be caused by an electrical short circuit.
