Wife held in Chattogram over ‘killing husband’ in Feni
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Saturday arrested a woman from Chattogram as she allegedly killed her expatriate husband at her Feni residence.
The arrestee was identified as Rokeya Akhter Sheuli, 28, wife of Dubai-expatriate Md Sohel, 35, of Chauddagram in Cumilla.

Sources of Rab said that two children of the expatriate were rescued.
Rab-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Mohammad Nurul Absar said Sheuli fled to Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong from Feni with her two children after hacking her husband Sohel to death at their house on Sufi Sadar Uddin Road in Feni town.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to a hospital morgue, said Nizam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Feni Model Police Station.
On Saturday, she wandered different areas in Fatikchhari for renting a house. Later, on information, a team of Rab arrested her at night, according to Rab.
Kazi Aref murder: Death row convict Roushan arrested
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members arrested Roushan alias Uday Mondol, death row convict in JSD leader Kazi Aref Ahmed murder case, at Bharalipara in Rajshahi city on Wednesday night.
ASP ANM Imran Khan, Senior Assistant Director, Legal and Media Wing of Rab headquarters, confirmed the matter in a press release on Thursday.

Tipped off, a team of RAB arrested Roushan alias Uday, 57, after conducting a drive in the city.
Rawshan was absconding for years in different districts assuming different names, RAB officials said.
Kazi Aref was killed along with four Kushtia JSD unit leaders after a rally at Kalidaspur in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia on February 16, 1999.

On August 30, 2004, a Kushtia court sentenced 10 people to death and 11 others to life imprisonment in the case.
On August 5, 2008, the High Court upheld the death sentence of nine condemned convicts while acquitted 11 others.
In 2016, three death row convicts in the Kazi Aref Ahmed murder case were executed at Jashore Central Jail.

They were Safayet Hossain Habib of Rajnagar village, Anwar Hossain and Rashedul Islam Jhantu of Kursha village in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia district.
Some of the convicts in this case are still on the run.
6 held for running porn racket in Joypurhat
Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested six youths for allegedly running a porn racket in Khetlal upazila.
The arrestees are Mehedi Hasan, 26, Faruk Hossain, 28, Arman Hossain, 28, Sujan Haldar, 24, Eklashur Rahman, 21, and Shahinur Rahman, 27, of the upazila.

RAB-5 Joypurhat camp sources said that a team, led by Lt Commander Toukir, raided Battali Bazar and arrested the six youths on Tuesday night, acting on a tip-off.
Six CPUs, 10 hard disks, eight monitors, 16 cables and six mouse pieces were also seized during the drive.
After interrogation, the accused were handed over to the Khetlal police station. A case has been filed under the Pornography Control Act, the sources added.
Two youths killed in Keraniganj ‘gunfight’
Two youths, who sustained bullet injuries in a "gunfight" with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) late last night, died during treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday.
The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed.

Md Bacchu Mia of DMCH police outpost said that the two youths were admitted to the hospital around midnight on Monday with bullet wounds. They died around 10 am on Tuesday, he added.
Sources within the elite force told UNB that the gunfight took place between RAB and a local gang in the Jhilmil residential area of Keraniganj on Monday night.
While most of the gang members managed to escape, these two youths were found dead and were brought to DMCH by RAB personnel, the sources added.

While contacted, the officer-in-charge of South Keraniganj Police Station Abul Kalam Azad told UNB,” We have assigned a team to gather more information about the gunfight. Details about it will be revealed to the media soon."
2 associates of Helena Jahangir held in Dhaka
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Tuesday arrested two associates of Joyjatra IPTV’ chairman Helena Jahangir from Gabtoli area in Dhaka.
The arrestees are Hajera Khatun, 40 and Sanaullah Nuri, 47.

On information, the intelligence wing of Rab conducted a drive in Gabtoli area early Tuesday and arrested them.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of Legal and Media Wing of Rab headquarters, said two laptops and two mobile phone sets were recovered during the drive.
Besides, the arrestees gave some information during an interrogation.

Process is underway to legal action against the arrestees, said officials.
On July 29, Rab members arrested Helena from her Gulshan residence for spreading propaganda using digital platform, four days after she was removed from the AL sub-committee.

Two cases were filed against Helena Jahangir under the Telecommunication Act and the Digital Security Act (DSA) on Friday.
Human trafficking ring busted in Natore, 2 held
Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday evening arrested two members of a human trafficking ring in Natore.
The arrestees have been identified as Sohrab Hossain (55) and Chanawur Islam (23). Of them, Sohrab is also an accused in a rape case, the RAB said in a release.

According to the elite force, a team of RAB-5 Natore camp led by company commander Major Sanaria Chowdhury conducted a raid in the Bagrom area of Natore Sadar Upazila on Monday evening, based on a tip off, and arrested the two.
Another member of the human trafficking racket, named Ali, however, managed to escape.
‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab in Gazipur
A suspected robber was killed in a 'gunfight' with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Satchungipar in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Parvez Ahmed, ringleader of inter-district robber gang.

Pervez was wanted in 23 criminal cases, said Mushfiqul Rahim Tushar, assistant director of Rab-1 (media).
Tipped off, a team of Rab-1 conducted an anti-narcotics drive in the area around 1 am.

Sensing the presence of the Rab personnel, Parvez and his two associates opened fire on Rab men, forcing them to fire back.
At one stage, Pervez was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while the two others managed to flee the scene.

Later, the body was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College and Hospital.
RAB destroys four country-made bombs in Natore
The bomb disposal unit of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday night disposed of four country-made bombs in the Naribari area of Natore’s Gurudaspur.

Officials said that local residents spotted the bombs wrapped in a plastic bag in the bushes next to a pesticide store in the area on Monday afternoon and informed the police.
Soon, a joint team of local police and RAB personnel rushed to the spot, evacuated the area and cordoned it off. In the evening, the RAB bomb disposal unit reached the spot from Dhaka and destroyed the bombs around 8 pm, officials said.

"However, the bombs were not powerful. RAB members took away the exploded remains of the bombs to Dhaka for further examination," said Natore Police chief Liton Kumar Saha. "A probe is on."
'Drug peddler' killed in Gazipur gunfight
A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Hazi Mazar slum in Tongi in the small hours of Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Rokon Mia, son of Tota Mia of the Pubail Bindan area in the district. He was wanted in several cases.

Acting on a tip-off, sleuths of RAB-1 raided the slum around 12 am, said sources at the headquarters of the elite force.
"Rokon opened fire at the RAB personnel to escape from the area. But he died after the RAB sleuths retaliated in self-defense," sources said.

"A pistol and some Yaba tablets were found near the body," they added.
Police have sent the body to the local hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Ex-MP among 3 held in Sahinuddin murder case
Three more persons, including a former MP, have been arrested in connection with the sensational Sahinuddin murder case, police said on Thursday.
Sleuths of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) raided a number of places in the capital and Bhairab upazila of Kishorgonj district and nabbed the trio in the early hours of the day.
The accused have been identified as Md Sumon Bepari (33), Md Rocky Talukder (25), and MA Awal, former MP of Laxmipur-1 constituency.
Sources at the RAB headquarters said that sleuths of the elite force conducted raids in Bhairab upazila late on Wednesday night, following a tip-off, and arrested the former MP in the early hours of Thursday. He is the prime accused in the case.
Similarly, the zonal team of DB (Mirpur) conducted raids at several places in the capital’s Pallabi and Rayerbagh areas and arrested Sumon and Rocky around the same time.
DMP’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-Media) Iftakhairul Islam said that Sumon had plotted the murder and led the team of assailants. "His quick interrogation led to the immediate arrest of Rocky in the Kalapani area of Pallabi," he said.
Two other accused in the case -- Murad and Dipu -- were arrested earlier. While the Pallabi police nabbed Murad soon after the crime on May 16, Dipu was held a day after.
On May 16, the accused called up Sahinuddin on his mobile phone and asked him to come to Mirpur Section-12 on the pretext of resolving a land dispute.
When the victim reached the area around 4pm that day, the assailants attacked him before hacking him to death with sharp weapons in front of his seven-year-old son.
A murder case was filed at Pallabi Police Station on May 17 against several people, including MA Awal, Sumon and Rocky.
