Bus catches fire in C'nawabganj
A bus of Tuhin Paribahan caught fire at Chapainawabganj bus stand on Monday noon.
The fire broke out at around 12pm, said Sajjad Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station.

On information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
Two buses that were next to Tuhin Paribahan were slightly damaged due to the fire.

OC Sajjad said the people of Tuhin Paribahan were doing welding work on the bus. Suddenly, the fire broke out and spread quickly.
The fire might have originated from a short circuit, added the OC.

Man arrested for killing brother in Chapainawabganj
A man was arrested for allegedly killing his younger brother in a dispute over money owed on Thursday.
The arrestee is Shafiqul Islam of Shrirampur village in Baliadanga union of Sadar upazila.

An argument broke out between them on Thursday evening over the money. At one point, Shafiqul hit Sadikul Islam with a sharp weapon and fled, said the OC.
Later, Sadikul was taken to Chapainawabganj District Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment around 8:00 pm on Thursday.

Autorickshaw driver dies as truck hits him in Chapainawabganj
An auto-rickshaw driver died and a passenger was injured after being hit by a truck in Chapainawabganj on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Rabiul Islam (27) of Narendrapur area of the district, confirmed Sajjad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station.

The incident happened around 8:00 pm on Thursday when the truck hit the autorickshaw from behind, killing Rabiul on the spot at Shibtola area beside Sonamasjid highway of the city, said the OC.

The injured passenger, Selim (19) of Narendrapur area, was rescued by locals and admitted to the 250-bed district hospital, said the police official.
After being informed, police went to the spot, seized the truck, and arrested its driver, Gaffar Ali (55), OC Sajjad added.

Youth arrested with firearm and bullets in C’nawabganj
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a youth with one revolver, four rounds of bullets and one magazine along Sonamasjid border of Chapainawabganj on Thursday night.
The arrestee is Abdullah Pranto, 21, a resident of Bonainagar village in Faridpur upazila of Pabna district.

Lt. Col Golam Kibria, commander of the BGB-59, at a press briefing on Friday morning said a team of the frontier force conducted a drive in Koylabari Truck Stand area under Shibganj upazila around 9 pm after tipped-off that a haul of arms would be smuggled by a battery-run three wheeler through a mango orchard.

As the vehicle approached, the law enforcers challenged it and found one revolver, four rounds of bullet and one magazine from the vehicle, he said.
Later, they arrested Abdullah in this connection.

The arrestee was handed over to Shibganj police station and a case was filed in this regard, added the commander.
Eid-ul-Azha 2023: 1,76,690 sacrificial animals ready in Chapainawabganj
There will be no shortage of sacrificial animals in Chapainawabganj district this Eid-ul-Azha, and there will be a surplus of around 50,000 animals, concerned authorities have said.
According to the Chapainawabganj unit of Department of Livestock, the district has 1,76,690 animals, as 12,159 farmers in five upazilas are currently rearing sacrificial animals for Eid-ul-Azha 2023.
This year, the demand for sacrificial animals in the district is estimated to be 1,26,379, resulting in a surplus of 50,311 animals for the entire district.

These animals have been reared in farms and in homesteads. Of these animals, there are 96,543 cows, 70,319 goats, 9,587 sheep, and 241 buffaloes.
Bumper production of mango: Chapainawabganj farmers are all smiles
Farmers are all smiles thanks to the bumper production of mango in Chapainawabganj district.
Mango is the main cash crop in Chapainawabganj, and this year the price of mango seems profitable in the local market.
The mango farmers are busy nurturing their orchards in the district.
After meeting local demand, a huge quantity of different varieties of mangoes are being supplied to other parts of the country.

According to the district’s Department of Agriculture Extension, there are 37,588 hectares of mango orchards and the government has set a target to produce 4,40,956 metric tonnes of mango this year.
Production of mango this year has exceeded that in the previous years. Last year, 3.25 lakh metric tonnes of mango were produced in the district.
This correspondent spoke to some mango farmers. They said, due to the hot temperatures and inadequate rain, the average size of mangoes are a tad small, but ripe, juicy mangoes will start flooding the local markets within next week.
3 to die for killing woman, daughter in C’nawabganj
A Chapainawabganj court on Monday convicted three persons and sentenced them to death for killing a woman and her daughter over land dispute.
Additional District and Session Judge Rabiul Islam pronounced the judgment.
The condemned convicts were identified as Rubel, Humayun Kabir and Mahbub Alam. Of them Mahbub tried in absentia.
The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each.
According to the prosecution, Nasima Begum, wife of Nasiruddin, an expatriate in Saudi Arabia, of Up-Razarampur Kumarpara of Sadar upazila and her daughter Nila were killed by the convicts following an enmity over the ownership of a piece of land on August 31, 2012.

Police recovered the bodies of Nasima and Nila from their house on the following day.
Taimur Rahman, father of Nasima lodged a complaint against six people with Sadar Police. Police registered a case later.
Of the six accused, one of them died during the trial proceedings.
After examining records and witnesses, the Additional District and Session Judge announced the judgment and acquitted two more accused as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
Six-year-old boy electrocuted in Chapainawabganj
A six-year-old boy was electrocuted at Chataidubi village of Islampur Union in Sadar upazila here on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Junayed Ali, son of Raihan Ali of the Etahari area of Godagari upazila of Rajshahi district.
Sajjad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station, said the boy got electrocuted as he inserted an unused spoke of a van into an electric socket while playing in front of the gate of his maternal grandfather's house around 9:30am.
Family members admitted the boy to Chapainawabganj Zila Hospital where doctors declared him dead, added the OC.
Three arrested with 400 bottles of phensedyl in Chapainawabganj: RAB
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three suspected drug peddlers with 400 bottles of phensedyl from Gopalnagar Mor area under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj on Saturday night.
The arrestees were identified as Joni Molla, 32, Shakil Ahmed, 24, and Salam Reza, 25 -- all residents of Bogura Sadar upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-5) conducted a drive at the Gopalnagar Mor area and arrested the three with 400 bottles of phensedyl from a mini-truck, said a press release from RAB.
RAB-5 Chapainawabganj Camp Company Commander Lt Ruh-fi-Tahmin Taukir led the drive.
A case was filed against the arrestees with Shibganj Police Station.
Suspected of theft, 2 construction workers beaten to death in Rajshahi 4 held
On suspicion of theft of Tk10 lakh, two construction workers were beaten to death at an under-construction building in the Rajshahi city's Safura BSCIC area Thursday night, police said.
The law enforcers detained four people over the incident. They also recovered videos from the accused which show them beating the workers up.
Rezaul Karim, 45, from Naogaon's Manda and Rakibul Islam, 35, from Chapainawabganj's Shibganj were tied to a pole and beaten up from noon to 8pm at night.
Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Boalia Police Station, said Rezaul and Rakibul had been working at the building of Modern Food Factory owner Mohammad Abdullah in front of Bishal Biscuit Factory for the past few days.

On suspicion of theft of Tk10 lakh from the food factory owner's home yesterday, Abdullah, his brother-in-law Moin Uddin Real, father-in-law Masum Reza and factory Manager Imran tied up the workers and beat them up with iron rods and sticks to extract a confession.
On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the workers, both in critical condition.They were taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where Rezaul was declared dead at 8:30pm, the OC said. "Rakibul succumbed to his injuries around 9.30pm while undergoing treatment."
The bodies were kept at the RMCH morgue for autopsies and will be handed over to the families after the completion of legal procedures, he said.
So far, no case has been lodged at the police station over the incident, he added.
