Indian citizen gets life term in Chapainawabganj
A Chapaianawabganj court on Thursday sentenced an Indian national to life term imprisonment in a case filed under the Arms Act.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Robiul Islam passed the order.
The convict is Milan Singha,37, son of Ratan Singha of Sukdebpur village in Malda district in India’s West Bengal.

On January 31,2018, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) detained Milan Singha with 7 guns, 74 rounds of ammunition and 14 magazines from Kapitola area in Shibganj upazila in the district, said Anjuman Ara Begum, Additional Public Prosecutor of the court.
Rab Sub-Inspector Golam Sarwar lodged a case at the Shibganj police station in this regard.
On March 1, 2018, the Investigation officer in the case submitted a chargesheet to the court accusing Milan Singha.
Man held for killing his wife in Chapainawabganj
A woman was suffocated to death allegedly by her husband over a family feud in Gulbag Natunpara Moholla of Chapainawabganj district on Sunday night, police said.
The deceased was identified as Shamima Khatun Sathi, 23, daughter of lateShahidul Haque of Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur district.
Police arrested her husband Shahin Ali, 23, son of Babul Haque of Shampur in Shibganj upazila, from the spot.

Mozaffar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station, said Shahin Ali, a tenant of Saiful Islam Masud, strangled his wife to death around 11:15pm on Sunday night.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body, he added.
Police recovered a black scarf used in the murder from the spot.

The body was sent to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the OC added.

Saplings of 200 varieties of mangoes have been grafted in an aging mango tree on the Circuit House premises of Chapainawabganj thanks to an initiative by the immediate past district commissioner Manjurul Hafeez.
Old branches of the tree have been pruned before the grafting, officials involved in the experiment said recently.
The grafted new branches have already grown leaves, the officials said hoping that the new varieties will be available for plucking in the next season of the juicy fruit.

3 dead as train hits three-wheeler in Chapainawabganj
Three people were killed when a train hit a three-wheeler at a level crossing at Alinagar Hazirmor in Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Monday morning.
The deceased are Fulchan, son of late Garibulla, Sheher Ali, son of late Rais Uddin, and Naimul, son of Manik Chand of Chapainawabganj district.

Chapainawabganj railway station master Shahidul Alam said the Ishwardi-bound train crashed into the three-wheeler while passing the unguarded level crossing in Alinagar Hajirmor area, half kilometer off the station, around 8am, leaving three passengers of the three-wheeler dead on spot.
On information, police and fire service members recovered the body from the spot, the station master said.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of the district AKM Galib Khan provided financial assistance of Tk 25,000 each to the families of the victims.

AKM Galib Khan said the train accident occurred at Hajirmor which is an unauthorised level crossing.
"I reported the incident to the Divisional Commissioner. A rail gate will be built here soon," he added.
Chapainawabganj road crash leaves 2 dead
Two people were killed and four others injured when a truck hit a human hauler on Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid highway at Haripur in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Hanif, 30, son of Abu Bakkar and Joydeb Shah, 32, son of Babul Shah of the upazila.

Later, they were taken to sadar hospital where doctors declared two of them dead.
Chapainawabganj poll violence: 385 sued over attack on police
Police on Friday sued 385 people over attacking police by supporters of defeated candidates of UP election in Chapainawabganj Sadar a day earlier.
The case was filed at Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station on Friday noon.
Mojaffar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station, said 135 named and 250 unnamed people have been made accused in the case.
So far, 15 people were arrested in this connection and presented before the court, said the OC.

On Thursday, Shariat Ali was elected as a UP member in Ward No. 8 of Jhilim Union in Sadar Upazila of the district in the 5th phase of UP election.
Unable to accept defeat, former UP member Monirul Islam Moni and other candidate Abdul Quddus Seratal along with hundreds of their supporters went to attack newly elected member Shariat Ali's house on Thursday afternoon.
On information, police rushed to the spot when the supporters attacked the police as they tried to control the situation.

Five policemen were injured in the attack. Three of them were admitted to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital.
Later, additional police were deployed to bring the situation under control.
Section 144 imposed in Chapainawabganj ahead of AL rally
The Nachol upazila administration has imposed Section 144 to prevent any untoward incident as two factions of upazila Awami League planned rallies on Monday at the same venue.
Nachol Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sharif Ahmed said the restriction will remain in force in Nachol Bus stand and adjacent areas from 7am to 7pm on Monday.

Selim Reza, officer-in-charge of Nachol Police Station, said the local administration resorted to the restriction to keep the law and order situation under control.
Earlier, Nachol Upazila Awami League General Secretary and Nachol Upazila Parishad Chairman Abdul Quader called a rally at Nachol bus stand at 10 am on Monday.
Besides,Municipality Awami League President and municipality Mayor Abdur Rashid Khan Jhalu also called a rally at the same venue.
Chapainawabganj hospital overwhelmed with diarrhea patients
This north-western border district is seeing an outbreak of diarrhea as at least 50 to 60 children are reported being hospitalised every day in the last 10-15 days. In the 250-bed Chapai Nawabganj district hospital there is no children bed in the diarrhea ward yet most of the patients are currently children, said Rehana Parvin, Diarrhea ward in-Charge of the hospital. “Comprising the ward’s sofas and bed we can accommodate 24 patients. But as the number is five to six times higher many are staying on floor”, said Nasrin Khatun, senior staff nurse of the hospital. Until Thursday 12 pm, 51 diarrhea patients were admitted at the hospital and 27 of them were admitted in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile 50 people were released from the hospital after recovery, said the hospital authority. “It’s hard to even have a space in the veranda outside the diarrhea ward for my two-year old granddaughter,” said Taslima Begum from Maharajpur village who admitted her granddaughter Tyeba on Monday.

Hafez Abul Kalam from Debinagar village, uncle of another two-year-old Jubayer said, “The weather is too cold to stay on the floor as chilly wind keeps coming from outside.”
Microbus-auto collision kills 2 in Chapainawabganj
Two people were killed and three others injured in a microbus-auto-rickshaw collision on Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid land port road in Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Ziaur Rahman, 38, son of Md Ali of Pirojpur village of the upazila and Jahangir, 35, son of Jan Mohammad of Bholahat upazila.

Witnesses said a microbus collided head-on with an autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction at the Koylabari Truck Terminal area around 4 pm, leaving auto-rickshaw passenger Ziaur dead on the spot and four injured.
The injured were sent to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex where Jahangir succumbed to his injuries, confirmed Farid Hossain, Officer-in-charge of Shibganj Police Station.

Twin sisters drown in Chapainawabganj
Chapainawabganj, o7 Nov (UNB)--Two twin sisters drowned in a bucket of water at Masjid Para area of Sadar Upazila on Sunday morning.
The deceased are Shaba and Sahara, 3 years old daughters of Emdadul Haque.

Victim’s father said they were playing in the bathroom with water. Suddenly both fell into a bucket full of water and fell sick.
Later they were taken to Sadar Hospita where doctors declared them dead.
Their bodies were handed over to family, said officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Mozaffar Hossain.

An unnatural death case was filed in this regard, the OC added.
