BPL 2022
BPL8: Khulna overcome stiff target with relative ease thanks to batters
Rony Talukdar hit a fluent half century while Andre Russell, Thisara Perera made vital contributions as the Khulna Tigers beat Minister Group Dhaka in the second match of the opening day of this year's Bangladesh Premier League.
The first match of BPL's 8th edition - also named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his centennial - between Chattogram and Barishal was a low-scoring affair, but the second match saw lots of big hitting and a target in excess of 180 runs chased down with an over to spare.
Khulna won the toss and sent Dhaka to bat first, who posted a challenging total of 183 runs. In reply, Khulna chased down the target in 19 overs and sealed the match with five wickets in hand.
Mushfiqur Rahim-led Khulna failed to have a good start while chasing as they lost Tanzid Hasan Tamim only for two runs. But in the second-wicket stand, Andre Fletcher and Rony Talukdar added 72 runs on the board which has helped the Khulna Tigers to set a good foundation.
Fletcher fell for 45, and Rony ended up top-scoring with 61 off 42 balls with seven fours and one six. After the departure of Fletcher and Rony, Mushfiqur and Yasir Ali failed to continue their momentum, but Sri Lankan allrounder Thisara Perera smashed 36 off 18 balls with six fours, and it was his knock that buried Dhaka's chances.

Right before the end of the match, it looked tough for Barishal, but Ziaur Rahman hit two fours and one six to seal the match in style. He remained unbeaten for 19 off 12 balls.

When BPL is returning after a long gap enforced by the Coronavirus pandemic, the spectators won’t be allowed to enter the stadium as the new strain of Covid-19, Omicron, is on the rise in the country.
However, if the situation gets better in the coming weeks, the authorities might give it a rethink whether they will allow the spectators or not.
The last season of BPL took place in 2020, but due to the pandemic, there was no BPL in 2021. The board had made a few attempts to host a BPL in 2020 but without luck.
BPL 2022: Meet the Six Captains
Six teams will participate in the much-anticipated Bangladesh Premier League 2022, starting tomorrow (January 21) and each will be highly reliant on its captains. Five of the BPL 2022 captains — Mahmudullah Riyad, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Imrul Kayes, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz have previously led BPL teams, while Mosaddek Hossain will be making his debut as permanent captain. Mosaddek previously served as the interim captain of Sylhet Sixers in 2019. Let's take a look at their T20 captaincy records and how they can impact their respective BPL 2022 teams.
Bangladesh Premier League 2022: T20 Record of Each Captain
Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah Riyad, and Mushfiqur Rahim have a better record as captains than Imrul Kayes, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Mosaddek Hossain. Therefore, the teams that they are leading will gain a competitive edge. Though a skipper cannot accomplish everything on the pitch. The captain's job gets easier when the squad is strong. In that perspective, Imrul, Miraz, and Mosaddek will have an opportunity to show their actual leadership capabilities at the main event.
