1.25 lakh people marooned in Gaibandha as flooding worsens
Around 1.25 lakh people were stranded as Brahmaputra and Ghaghat rivers continued to swell, worsening the overall flood situation of Gaibandha on Tuesday.
30 villages newly flooded in Gaibandha
Thirty villages in Saghata and Sundarganj upazilas of Gaibandha were newly flooded on Sunday as rivers flowing through the areas burst their banks after heavy shower and onrush of water from the upstream.
Water Development Board said the water level of Brahmaputra and Teesta are 27cm and 1cm above the danger level.
The overall flood condition of the district has been worsening gradually as intermittent rain has been continuing for the past few days.

One killed in Gaibandha clash over land
A man was killed in a clash over land related dispute at Ratanpur Bunatola village on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Nurunnabi.
Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Police Station, said that there had been a long standing dispute between two neighbours Nurunnabi and Ezadur Rahman over a piece of land.
As a sequel to the dispute, the both groups locked into the clash at night, leaving att least ten people including Nurunnabi injured.
Later, he died on the way to hospital.
Police arrested three people- Entajul Haque, Ashraful Islam and Tuhin Miah- in connection with the incident.
A murder case was filed.
Ex-UP member beaten to death in Gaibandha
A former UP member was beaten to death over land dispute during an arbitration near Saghata Bazar area in Saghata upazila on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Hamid.
Officer-in-charge of Saghata Police Station Belal Hossain said the arbitration was held to settle a dispute over a land at noon.
A clash ensued during the arbitration and the rival group members started beating Hamid when he tried to obstruct them, the OC said.
Hamid succumbed to his wounds on the way to hosptial.
Police arrested Nilmoni Chandra and Shyamol Chandra , he said.
