Farmer shot over land feud in Tangail
A farmer was injured in gunfire in Tangail’s Ghatail over land feud on Tuesday .
Farmer Shahjahan Mia, of Kurmushi village, was shot by engineer Sohrab Ali when he was cutting paddy with other farmers on the feuded land, police said.
According to the locals, Sohrab Ali had a long-standing dispute with Majeda Begum of the same area over a piece of land. Shahjahan was injured when Sohrab opened fire at random seeing the workers in the field.

OC Azharul Islam Sarkar of Ghatail Police Station said that Majeda went to the area on Tuesday morning with eight workers to cut paddy. Over information, Sohrab went to the spot and forbade them to cut the paddy. “At one point, he fired with his licensed shotgun leaving a worker injured.”
Legal action will be taken in this regard, the OC added.
2 minor siblings charred to death in Noakhali
Two siblings were charred to death when a fire broke out in their house at Bir Narayanpur village in Senbag upazila of Noakhali district on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Noman, 7, and Mahi, 3, two children of Iqbal Hossain of the village.

Iqbal Hossain Patwari, officer-in-charge of Senbag Police Station, said the fire broke out at the house of Iqbal from an earthen oven around 11:30 am as Iqbal’s wife was preparing their launch.
At one stage, she went to a nearby pond for household work after leaving her two children in the house.
When she returned home, she found her house on fire.

Local people managed to extinguish the fire.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the charred bodies of the two children.
LDP Secretary General Redwan denied bail
A court here on Tuesday turned down the bail petition of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary General Redwan Ahmed and three others in a case filed for opening fire during rallies of Chhatra League and LDP in Cumilla's Chandina on Monday.
Cumilla Judicial Magistrate Court-7 Judge Abu Bakar Siddique rejected the bail after hearing.
Earlier on Monday, Dr Redwan Ahmed, LDP Secretary General and former Parliament member of Cumilla-7 constituency, was held as he was accused of firing his gun.

According to police, LDP activists arrived at Redwan Ahmed College premises on Monday noon for a pre scheduled Eid get together but BCL activists also were present there for a meeting.
Amid the tension, some BCL activists allegedly chased the personal vehicle of Dr Redwan Ahmed when he reached the spot. In reaction to this, he fired two bullets from his pistols, injuring two BCL activists-Mahmudul Hasan Jony and Najmul Hasan.
Immediately after the incident, Dr. Redwan was taken under custody with his gun.
Launch services on Shimulia-Banglabazar routes suspended due to inclement weather
Launch services on the Shimulia-Banglabazar-Majhirkandi routes have been suspended since 6 pm on Tuesday due to inclement weather.
Assistant director of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Shahadat Hossain said the authorities concerned have decided to suspend launch services on the routes due to stormy weather and rain.

Assistant General Manager of BIWTC, Shimulia Ghat, Shafiqul Islam, said the ferries were operating on the routes as usual with six ferries in operation.
The launch services will resume from 6 am on Wednesday given an improvement of weather conditions.
Earlier, the launch services remained suspended for one hour from 2:35 pm to 3:35 pm due to a storm on Tuesday.
Narsingdi college teacher held for beating students with aluminum pipes
The principal of a college in Palash upazila of Narsingdi has been detained allegedly for beating up 16 students of class XII with aluminum pipes, police said on Tuesday.
Amir Hossain Gazi, the principal of Palash Central College, was detained on Monday evening from his residence in Panditpara of the upazila, said Md Elias Mia, officer-in-charge (OC) of Palash police station.

The students informed that most of the students of science group left the classroom on Sunday on information that the teacher would not come to take the sixth class of the day. But the teacher came to the class and then a small number of students joined the class.
On the following day, principal Amir Hossain Gazi entered the classroom with an aluminum pipe and beat up around 16 students who remained absent in the previous day’s classs, leaving them seriously injured, alleged the students.
The incident sparked anger among the students and their parents. The students posted photographs of the incident on social media, demanding justice.

Meanwhile, District Secondary Education Officer Gautam Mitra said a three-member probe committee headed by Upazila Education Officer Milon Krishna Haldar has been formed. “Next step will be taken as per the report of the committee.”
Principal Amir Hossain Gazi said, "I only brought the students under discipline. Now some people are trying to tarnish my image by making it an issue.”
2 crushed under trains in B’baria
Two people were crushed under the wheels of separate trains at Alamnagar and Jatrapur areas in Ashuganj upazila of Barhmanbaria district on Tuesday.
One of the deceased was identified as Kaiyum, 55, of Sylhet district while identity of another deceased could not be known.

In Jatrapur, a 25-year-old unidentified youth was killed after being hit by Chattogram-bound ‘Mahanagar Prabhati’ train while crossing the rail tracks in the morning, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Salauddin Khan Noman, in-charge of Brahmanbaria railway station police outpost.
In Alamnagar, Kaiyum was killed after being hit by another train around 9:30 am while crossing the rail tracks, said the SI.

The bodies were sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, the SI added.
Probe body formed after rescue of newborn from Barishal hospital’s toilet pipe
A probe committee on Tuesday started its investigation over rescuing a newborn from the sewerage pipe of Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) after her mother gave birth in a toilet of the maternity ward.
Dr HM Saiful Islam, director of SBMCH, formed the three-member probe committee on Sunday.

Dr HM Saiful Islam said the probe committee headed by pediatric department chief Professor Dr Mujibur Rahman Talukder has been asked to submit a report within three working days.
Meanwhile, Professor Mujibur Rahman Talukder said the newborn and his mother both are currently doing well.
“The baby has oxygen saturation at 97. Hopefully, they will be released from the hospital within 1-2 days” he said.
On Saturday afternoon, Shilpi Begum, the mother, accidentally delivered the baby girl on a high commode of the toilet of maternity ward.

The prematurely born baby slipped toilet’s pipeline and got stuck some metres below, said baby’s father Neyamat Ullah, a fisher from Swarupkathi upazila in Pirojpur.
The hospital immediately informed the nearby Fire Service office to rescue the baby. But before they arrived Neyamat broke the pipe on the second floor of the hospital building and rescued the baby who suffered slight bruises.
Woman 'beaten to death' in Jhenaidah
A 40-year-old woman was beaten to death allegedly by her neighbours over a small matter in Berbinni village of Harinakundu upazila in Jhenaidah district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Asmani Khatun, wife of Amzad Hossain of the village.
The victim's husband said that Asmani had an argument with Sumaiya Khatun, wife of Ujjal Hossain of the village, on Sunday over their children playing in the neighborhood.

Following the incident, Sumaiya, along with her family members, allegedly thrashed Asmani when she went to the canal next to the house of the accused later that afternoon, leaving her critically injured.
Asmani was rushed to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital. She was transferred to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital on Monday after her condition deteriorated, where she succumbed to her injuries this morning.

Sumaiya and her family members are on the run, said Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Harinakundu police station. "Details will be revealed following a probe."
Nearly 27,000 litres of edible oil seized in Rajshahi, one held
Police have seized nearly 27,000 litres of edible oil illegally stored in two warehouses in Rajshahi and arrested one of its owners.
On a tip-off, a team of cops raided the two warehouses in the Taherpur Bazar area of Rajshahi’s Bagmara upazila on Monday night and made the seizure.

"The seized oil includes 19,176 litres of soybean oil. The remaining was mustard oil," said IK Alam, additional superintendent of Rajshahi district police.
"The arrestee took the state-owned godown on rent. He has been identified as Shahidul Islam Swapan, 40, a resident of Cheokhali village," the officer said.

"Later we seized another 31 drums of soybean oil from a nearby godown owned by Swapan’s brother Rafiqul," he said. "His brother, however, managed to escape."

Four of family suffer burns in Narayanganj fire
Four members of a family suffered burn injuries in a fire caused by a leakage in a cooking gas pipeline in Narayanganj's Fatullah union in the early hours of Tuesday, officials said.
The injured have been identified as rickshaw puller Anwar Hossain, 40, his wife Rozina Akhter, 33, and their sons -- Roman, 17, and Rohan, 9.

Of them, three are being treated at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said Alam Hossain, senior station officer of Fatullah Fire Service Station.
The fire broke out at the family's tin-shed house before dawn due to the leakage in the cooking gas pipeline, when the four were fast asleep, he said.
On information, a fire tender was rushed to the spot to douse the flames.

SM Ayub Hossain, a resident surgeon at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said Anwar sustained 17% burns, Rozina 14% and Rohan 35%.
However, Roman has been released after administration of first aid.
