SA vs BAN 2022: Bangladesh's trip to South Africa ends with a crushing defeat
Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa came to an end with a crushing 332-run defeat by the hosts in the second match of the SA vs BAN 2022 Test series on Monday (April 11). With this easy victory, South Africa whitewashed (2-0) Bangladesh in the Test series. On the other hand, Bangladesh’s biggest achievement on the tour was winning the ODI series 2-1 against a full-strength Proteas national side last month. The second match report as well as the top performers from the Test series are discussed in this article.
Second Test Match Report: South Africa vs Bangladesh 2022 Series
Opted to bat first, South Africa managed to put up a total which was a real challenge for Bangladesh to counter. South Africa made 453 runs in their first innings, during which Keshav Maharaj played a crucial 84-run knock lower down the order. Skipper Dean Elgar scored 70 runs at the top of the order and gave the hosts a perfect start to the innings. For Bangladesh, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam bagged six wickets and became the only Bangladesh player after Shakib Al Hasan to scalp six wickets in an innings in South Africa.

In reply, Bangladesh made only 217 runs and failed to avoid the follow-on. Though South African skipper Dean Elgar didn’t force Bangladesh to bat again. Rather he decided to bat again in order to give Bangladesh a massive target.
At the end of the first innings, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Yasir Ali, and Mushfiqur Rahim all made some runs in the first innings, with Mr. dependable Mushfiqur Rahim (51) being the only half-centurion of the Bangladesh innings.
South Africa declared their second innings on 176/6d after setting a 413-run target for Bangladesh. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam once again was the top performer with the ball. He bagged three wickets in the second innings and finished his match figures with 9/202.

Chasing a massive target, Bangladesh's batters choked against the South African bowling line-up. Bangladesh were dismissed for only 80 runs in just 23.3 overs. Keshav Maharaj picked up 7 wickets in the second innings against Bangladesh.
Player of the Series
Left-arm orthodox spinner Keshav Maharaj was in superb form in the Test series. He was named player of the match after taking 9 wickets in the second game and scoring an important 84 runs in the first innings. Keshav Maharaj took the most wickets (16) with an average of 12.12 in this two-match longer-version contest. With the bat, he scored 108 runs. Keshav Maharaj deservedly received the player of the series award for his superb all-round effort during the SA vs BAN 2022 Test series.
Top Performers: South Africa vs Bangladesh Test Series 2022
There were a few notable performers on both sides in the Test series between Bangladesh and South Africa. But South Africa’s left-arm orthodox spinner, Keshav Maharaj, was the best among them. He was awarded the best player for his consistent performances in the Test series. Apart from him, Bangladesh’s young top-order batter, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, stunned everyone with his patient 137-run knock in the first innings of the first Test in Durban. Proteas skipper Dean Elgar also played a crucial part in batting, while Bangladesh’s left-arm orthodox spinner Taijul Islam did an excellent job with the ball in the second Test match. Here are some of the top performers in the series.

Aftermath
It was expected that Bangladesh would upset South Africa in the Test series after a spectacular ODI series triumph against the Proteas last month. Bangladesh's overall performance in the Test series was terrible, with the exception of a few outstanding individual performances. The team tigers seemed to be without a proper game plan, and the batters' attitude to a second-string South African bowling unit was extremely disappointing. Mominul Haque's credibility as a Test captain has been questioned. Furthermore, the role of experienced players on the squad has been criticized.
The BCB will need to take even more effective actions in order to achieve better results against stronger opposition in the longer-version format. Overall, the SA vs BAN 2022 series was both a success and a failure.

Bangladesh suffer another thumping defeat against South Africa
In pursuit of 413 runs in the fourth innings of the second Test of the two-match series in Gqeberha, South Africa, Bangladesh suffered a defeat by 332 runs after Keshav Maharaj recorded another seven-for on Monday.
Bangladesh had ended day three at 27 for three. They lasted only an hour on the fourth day and lost all of their remaining wickets.
“We failed to play good cricket in this series,” Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque said to the broadcaster at the end of the match. “We are disappointed but have to move forward. We play well when everyone contributes and that is why the first innings in Durban was good. We didn't have any partnership with bat or ball, even with the ball we kept leaking from one end in this Test.”

Maharaj and his spin-bowling partner Simon Harmer bagged all 10 of Bangladesh’s wickets in the fourth innings as they did in the fourth innings of the first Test too at Durban.
While Maharaj scalped seven, Harmer took three as they did the same in the first Test.
After losing three quick wickets, the onus was on Mushfiqur Rahim, Mominul Haque, Liton Das and Yasir Ali to keep the scoreboard afloat. But all of them failed horribly.
For the fourth consecutive time, Mominul failed to do well with the bat. Mushfiqur, who had a fifty in the previous innings, couldn't continue on a good run. Yasir suffered a duck.
Liton and Mehidy Hasan offered some resistance scoring 27 and 20 respectively, but that did little to avoid another big defeat against South Africa in Test.
“It has been a good last few months since I have taken over the captaincy,” Dean Elgar, the captain of South Africa, told the broadcaster. “Obviously playing this series as people say a weak squad, but I don't see it like that. I see giving guys an opportunity at this level and trying to test their skills as international cricketers.”

Earlier, with a 236-run first-inning lead, South Africa declared their second innings on 176 for six, and with this, the hosts set a huge target of 413 for the Tigers.
In reply to South Africa’s first innings of 453, Bangladesh tumbled for 217 despite having some good batting display from some batters who failed to carry on with a positive mind.
All of Tamim, Mushfiuqr Rahim and Yasir Ali passed the 40-run mark, but only Mushfiqur was able to reach a fifty. He, however, ended his innings with a fancy sweep which looked awkward at this moment of the match.
However, Taijul Islam continued to prove his ability on the soil of South Africa taking three more wickets in the second innings of the hosts. His wickets tally in this Test ended with nine for 202— his best match return away from home in Tests.

Bangladesh are in trouble in the second Test of the two-match series against South Africa. At the end of day three, Bangladesh are still 386 runs short of the target set for them with only seven wickets in hand, at 27 for three in 9.1 overs.
The visitors might face the same fate they endured in Durban losing a Test by 220 runs after a batting collapse in the second innings when they tumbled for 53.
In pursuit of a huge target of 413, Bangladesh lost three early wickets— Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tamim Iqbal. Joy had a century in the first match, but in the second, he suffered a pair of ducks.

Bangladesh allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz was hit by a ball during the first over of the second innings of South Africa in the second Test in Port Elizabeth. He was stretchered off the field after being hit on the stomach, but after four overs, he returned to the field.
The allrounder was fielding at point when he failed to spot a catchable cut shot from Sarel Erwee, and the ball hit him flush on his stomach or sternum.

The Bangladesh team physio came to the field quickly and the allrounder was stretchered off the field.
It’s not clear what made Mehidy fail to spot the dolly coming toward him. Most probably, it was due to the advertising board installed opposite the field around the boundary ropes.
Earlier, Bangladesh were dismissed in their first innings at 217 with a fifty from Mushfiqur Rahim. Simon Harmer and Wiaan Mulder bagged three wickets each while Duanne Olivier and Keshav Maharaj took two wickets each.

SA vs BAN Second Test 2022: Taijul Islam Reaches Unique Milestone
Most of Bangladesh’s bowlers were ineffective against the South African batting unit, except left-arm orthodox spinner Taijul Islam and pacer Ebadot Hossain in the first innings of SA vs BAN second Test 2022. The hosts were watchful against Taijul, as his bowling stats showed that he was the most economical bowler among the Bangladesh players. Taijul took 6 wickets in the innings, becoming the second Bangladesh bowler to collect 150 Test wickets, by exerting pressure on the Proteas batters. Let’s take a look at Taijul Islam’s Test career at a glance.
Taijul Islam’s Milestones in the First Innings of South Africa-Bangladesh Second Test
Taijul Islam’s brilliant accuracy put pressure on the Proteas batters. However, Bangladesh couldn’t capitalize on Taijul’s effective bowling because of a lack of pressure from the other end. Taijul Islam finished his spell with a 6/135 after 50 overs of bowling. It showed what a marathon spell he had during the first innings of the match. Take a look at the records Taijul grasped during South Africa’s first innings of SA vs BAN second Test 2022.
150 Test Wickets
Taijul Islam’s bowling stats in the longer-version format has been brilliant. He has picked up 150 wickets in 61 Test innings with an average of 32.21. He became the second Bangladesh player, after Shakib Al Hasan, to pick up 150 Test wickets.

Second spinner to take fifer at St George's Park, Gqeberha
Before this SA vs BAN second Test 2022, only one spinner picked a fifer at St. George’s Park in Gqeberha. South Africa's off-spinner, Hugh Joseph Tayfield, snatched 6/78 wickets against England in 1957. 65 years later, Taijul Islam became the second spinner to snatch a fifer on this ground.
Bangladesh's second bowler to take six wickets in South Africa
In 2008, ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan bagged six wickets in an innings against the hosts in South Africa. 14 years later, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam became the second Bangladesh bowler to scalp six wickets in an innings in South Africa.
Bottom Line
Taijul Islam’s personal achievements have been overshadowed by South Africa’s commanding first-innings total. It would have been much better if Bangladesh had restricted South Africa to around 300 runs in order to stay firm in the game. However, Bangladesh still has a chance to make a comeback if the batters do their part in both the innings of the SA vs BAN second Test 2022. Hopefully, Taijul Islam will fire up in South Africa’s second innings just like he did in the first innings.

IPL 2022 KKR vs DC: Delhi's Mustafizur could be crucial against Kolkata
Delhi Capitals have had a difficult start to the IPL 2022 season despite winning their first match by four wickets against the Mumbai Indians. Rishab Pant's side has only won one game in three matches so far, and they need to get back on track if they want to remain in playoffs contention. The Delhi Capitals next encounter is on Sunday at 4 p.m. (Bangladesh Standard Time) against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Delhi's Bangladeshi recruit, Mustafizur Rahman, might be a key player in this match because his cutter is very effective in these conditions. The KKR vs DC match preview is discussed in this article.
Team News: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Capitals
With six points after four games, Kolkata Knight Riders presently top the IPL 2022 points table. On the other side, the Delhi Capitals are in the seventh position with only two points.
The Indian Premier League's 15th season is now in its early stages, with each team competing to craft the best plan for this campaign. However, no club can afford to lose consecutive games in a row since it will jeopardize their chances of making the playoffs.

Delhi Capitals
The Delhi Capitals have a well-balanced lineup with a wide range of bowling options. They only need to find the appropriate combination to get positive results. Left-arm pacer from Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman might be an excellent weapon for the Delhi Capitals. Mustafizur took three wickets in his first match of the season. His cutter delivery, slower bouncer, and pinpoint accuracy have the potential to stem the run flow while also assisting in wicket-taking. Besides, Prithvi Shaw and Kuldeep Yadav are performing well for Delhi.

Delhi Capitals have to make a strong comeback against the current league leader. Because three consecutive losses will put them under a lot of pressure to get back on track. Delhi’s foreign recruits, David Warner, Mustafizur Rahman, and Anrich Nortje, could be vital in this match. South Africa in sight of series victory, Bangladesh 27-3
South Africa were in sight of a series victory Sunday as Bangladesh stumbled to 27-3 chasing 413 to win the second Test.

The Proteas dismissed Bangladesh for 217 in their first innings earlier in the day and then the hosts made 176-6 declared in their second innings to set the huge target.
Those runs came in 39.5 overs, with opener Sarel Erwee hitting 41 and Kyle Verreynne making 39 not out in the middle order.
