Hizb ut-Tahrir leader arrested from Dhaka’s Bashundhara
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested a top leader of the banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir.
He was arrested from Bashundhara residential area by the City Intelligence Analysis Division of the CTTC.
The arrestee was identified as Imtiaz Selim alias Imadul Amin. He is one of the current leaders of the banned militant outfit.

He completed his bachelor and master’s from North South University and was employed at a multinational company in Dhaka’s Banani, according to the CTTC.
During a press briefing at the DMP media centre, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner and CTTC chief Md Asaduzzaman said the outfit had been carrying out militant activities in the country since its inception.
The CTTC additional police commissioner also said that on September 30 that they organised an online conference against the government.

"They ran campaigns across the country, including Dhaka, calling for people to participate in the conference. Two speakers and one presenter participated in the conference using pseudonyms."
"Speakers at the conference deliberately presented wrong information about the government's various development activities and the government's relations with different countries, including the USA,” said the CTTC chief.
Assaduzzaman said the outfit was instigating people by misinterpreting religion to establish an Islamic state by establishing a regime under the leadership of Hizb ut-Tahrir.
The online conference was broadcast live on a Lebanon-based YouTube channel, according to the CTTC.

Regarding the arrestee, the CTTC chief said, "Imtiaz first came to know about the banned outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir through a friend in 2010 after graduating from the university and joined the organisation. On May 12, 2010, he was arrested for his involvement with Hizb ut-Tahrir and was in jail for six months as an accused in a case filed with Badda Police Station."
During his stay in jail, Imtiaz Salim came in contact with Professor Dr. Syed Ghulam Mawla and Professor Mohiuddin, the founders of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Bangladesh and became more attached to the militant outfit, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner Asaduzzaman
Cultural event at JnU to express solidarity with Palestinians
Expressing solidarity with Palestinians, a cultural event 'Intifada Palestine', was held on Jagannath University (JnU) campus in protest against the barbaric Israeli aggressions supported by the US on innocent people on Wednesday.
The students of different departments participated in the cultural function organised by 'Chintak' on the university's "Vaskharya Chattar" premises.

Ivan Tahsib, editor of "Chintak" magazine and one of the organisers of the protest programme, said, "We want to say from this solidarity programme that American imperialism is responsible for the terrible situation of the Palestinian people today, just as Israeli Zionism is responsible. This is not just a war of religion, it is a war for the survival of America's capitalist interests. Not all Jews support the genocide of Palestinians. Many Jews in the UK, France and Germany are against the genocide."
Islamic parties stage protest condemning Israeli attacks on Palestine
Joydeep Bhattacharya, organiser of the Bangladesh Chapter of "Health Care Workers for Palestine", Rafiquzzaman Farid, adviser of the quarterly periodical 'Sairen', published by the students of Dhaka University, and cultural activists joined the event and expressed their solidarity with the freedom-seeking Palestinians.
Along with them, Sushmita Roy Supti, organiser of 'Charan Cultural Centre’' and many leaders joined their voices.
DU authority blocks prescheduled panel discussion on 'National Curriculum 2021'
Dhaka University administration on Wednesday blocked a panel discussion on "National Curriculum 2021" after allowing organisers to arrange the programme.
The panel discussion titled "National Curriculum 2021: Why Are We Concerned?" was scheduled to be held at the RC Majumdar Arts Auditorium of the Lecture Theatre building of DU on Wednesday.

The University Teachers' Network arranged the programme to discuss several matters about the curriculum.
After the speakers and the audience gathered in front of the auditorium, Professor Dr Abdul Bashir, dean of the Faculty of Arts, called the organisers over the phone and informed them not to hold the discussion.

When asked about not allowing the programme, Bashir said, "We gave permission in view of their written application. But I got to know at 2:00 pm that this programme may hurt the state, the government, and our nation. That's why I called the organisers and requested that they arrange it somewhere else."
Meanwhile, the University Teachers' Network held a rally in front of the Aparajeyo Bangla Sculpture, protesting the decision.

Prof Kamrul Hasan Mamun of the Physics department of the university said, "We wanted to hold a discussion about the pros and cons of the new curriculum. Those who obstruct such a harmless programme do not want the welfare of the state. The new curriculum that has been imposed on our students is nothing but an empty shell."
Prof Nasir Uddin of Jagannath University said, "In the new curriculum, 30 percent of science activities have been kept and the rest have been removed. Art and culture, life, and livelihood subjects have been given priority, excluding science and mathematics. These may be part of technical education, not mainstream. If this continues, administrators and executives will have to be imported from abroad soon."
The protest rally was attended by the teachers of Dhaka University, guardians, and some students.
3 cops hurt in crude bomb blast in Bogura’s Gabtoli
Three police officers were injured in a crude bomb blast in Bogura’s Gabtoli upazila on Wednesday, the last day of the 36-hour blockade called by the BNP-Jamaat.
Police recovered two unexploded crude bombs from the spot.

The injured were identified as SI Abdul Kuddus, SI Enamul Haque and ASI Joydeb Saha of Gabtoli Model Police Station. They were admitted to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gabtoli Model Police Station, said a crude bomb exploded near the police who were on duty during the BNP’s 36-hour blockade after a procession led by Gabtoli municipal BNP in support of the blockade passed Tinmatha intersection of the upazila sadar around 2pm on Wednesday.

No one was arrested in connection with the incident, said OC Azad.
Gabtoli municipality BNP President Saiful Islam accused Awami League of carrying out the attack.

Courtroom set on fire in Khulna
Unidentified miscreants allegedly set fire to the courtroom of Paikgachha Senior Judicial Magistrate in Khulna on Wednesday, damaging furniture, including docks and chairs.
However, the extent of damages caused by the flame could not be ascertained immediately.

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man along with 70,000 Yaba pills and a private car in two separate drives in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar on Wednesday.

Tipped off that a consignment of Yaba pills might be smuggled through Teknaf-Cox's Bazar Highway, Teknaf Battalion (BGB-2) of BGB strengthened checking of vehicles at Damdamia, Hoaikong, Khurermukh and Shilkhali check posts, said Lt. Col. Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Captain of Teknaf Battalion (BGB-2).
At around 12pm, 20,000 pieces of Yaba pills were recovered from a private car going to Cox's Bazar from Teknaf near Shilkhali temporary check post, he said.
The private car was also seized for carrying drugs illegally.

ACC seizes files over corruption allegations in Ctg WASA
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) started digging into allegations of irregularity in recruiting water pump operators and several financial projects in Chattogram Water Supply and Sewerage Authority on Wednesday.
A three-member team of the anti-watchdog led by Chattogram office’s Deputy Director Fakhrul Islam seized some files of the organisation to take actions upon verifications against the allegations.
The team also met its Managing Director (MD) Engineer AKM Faizullah and its Chief Engineer Maksud Alam.
ACC official Fakhrul Islam said they visited the WASA office upon the allegations of corruption in the recruitment of water pump operators.
They said they seized some files in this connection and would recommend actions after scrutinising all things.
Asked whether they found any irregularities during the visit, the anti-watchdog official would not make any comment.
Chief Engineer Maksud said the ACC team came to take information about the recruitment process of the contractors and consultants.
After a meeting with the MD, the ACC team left the office, he added.

Police, however, have so far arrested five BNP supporters in this connection, confirmed Kahaloo police station’s Officer-in-charge Selim Reza.

BYLC concludes its first ever job readiness programme
Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC) has concluded its first ever job readiness program, BYLC Connected, for graduating students and young professionals in Bangladesh.
The program was aim at graduating students and young professionals who are looking to start or grow their careers, according to a press release.
As part of the program, BYLC's Office of Professional Development trained roughly 80 enrolled participants on resume writing, acing interviews, psychometric exams, and important soft and technical skills relevant to the present job sector throughout their 10-day training session, reads the press release.
Participants had the opportunity to network with recruiters, as well as receive placement and career counseling services.
BYLC Office of Professional Development (OPD) was launched in 2016 with a vision to respond to the systemic challenges in talent development in Bangladesh through innovative interventions.
Through their programs, OPD connects youth to jobs and employment opportunities via partnerships with renowned employers of the country, provides them with necessary skills, and gives them the opportunity to gain insights from industry leaders.
Till date, OPD has trained around 3124 and placed around 895 in employment opportunities, according to the official press release.
