Some 232 sacks of rice were found in the warehouse of local dealer Ataur Rahman and 68 sacks were reserved by Abul Fazal, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahina Aktar.
Acting on a tip off the UNO operated the drive along with the help of law enforcers. Each sack contained 30 kilograms of rice, said the UNO.
The Directorate General of Food has been asked to submit their report over the matter and the legal action will be taken after getting the report, he added.
As per the government rule the seized rice should have been sold within September otherwise the rice should return to government warehouse but the dealers reserved them personally, the UNO said.
The government has been operating the food-friendly programme by selling rice at Tk 10 per kg among 50 lakh ultra-poor families across the country.
