He made the remarks while speaking at a discussion at the auditorium of Krishibid Institution Bangladesh marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Quader’s comments came against the backdrop of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s allegation that the government has completely failed to win international support for starting the repatriation of Rohingyas and resolve the problem.
Speaking at a press briefing after a meeting of the party’s standing committee members at its chairperson’s Gulshan office on Saturday, the BNP secretary general also accused the government of working to implement Myanmar’s formula and fulfill its desires.
Quader, also Awami League general secretary, said Bangladesh is now hosting around 11 lakh Rohingyas in Ukhiya and Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar where the number of local residents is only 4 lakh.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has warned against walking into the provocation trap of Myanmar over the Rohingya repatriation, he said.
Quader claimed that international pressure has mounted on Myanmar now compared to any other time to take back its nationals from Bangladesh.
Turning to politics, he said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been in jail for the last one and a half years but their party could not wage a movement for only one and half minutes.
