They also pressed a list of 7 demands including deferment of the Ducsu polls for three months and ensuring the presence of all student political organisations on the campus.
The other demands include raising age limit for participating in the Ducsu polls, ensuring freedom of speech, reformation of the election controlling bodies, ensuring hall seats for students from first year and bringing the polling stations under CCTV surveillance.
They brought out a procession from university’s Madhur Canteen at 11:30pm, which paraded past important points of the campus. Later, they took position at in front of the VC’s office for around 2 hours.
JCD central general secretary Akramul Hasan said, "The administration is working in favour of a specific student organisation. But JCD will not accept any pre-planned or blue print election."
"We will go for tougher movement if the university authorities don't accept our 7-point demands," he added.
JCD president of DU unit, Al Mehedi Talukder said "We want stable political co-existence of all the student organisations. We need some time to prepare ourselves as we could not enter the campus for last eight years.“
JCD DU unit General Secretary Bashar Siddique, vice president Tanvir Reza Rubel, among others, spoke during the programme. Eventually the program wrapped up peacefully after everyone had spoken.
