Shajahan Khan, also a transport workers leader, was speaking as chief guest at a seminar on “One decade’s of development in Shipping sector’ at national press club in the capital.
Shipping and Communication Reporters Forum (SCRF), a journalist platform, organised the seminar.
National Press Club president Saiful Alam and professor Dr Mir Tareque Ali, head of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Department of BUET, were special guests at the function.
The former shipping minister claimed that the country is safe only under the regime of Sheikh Hasina who can transform Bangladesh into a developed country and her government has been doing so.
Adequate numbers of development projects in maritime sector have been implemented in last ten years and more projects are on way to implementation, Shajahan added.
National Press Club president Saiful Alam said, "we shall have to protect our water resources, including water transport system."
Dr. Mir Tareque Ali said, present government laid emphasis in maritime sector’s development which is a good sign. He urged the government to focus more on inland and sea-going shipping sectors for the prosperity of Bangladesh.
Chaired by SCRF president Ashis Kumar Dey and moderated by it’s vice president Amaresh Roy, the programme was also addressed, among others, by Mohamed Shahid Miah, president of the National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways, former president of SCRF Anisur Rahman Khan, former general secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo and SCRF general secretary Rafiqul Islam Sabuj.
