Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase on Wednesday gave approvals to increased costs for implementation of one Railway Ministry project and one Road Transportation and Bridge Ministry project.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith chaired the meeting of the cabinet body.
As per the proposals, the implementation cost of the Laksham-Chikni Astana double track rail line project was increased by Tk 92 crore to Tk 1,714.10 crore.
This has been the second time this project’s cost got escalated, said Nasima Begum, additional secretary at the Cabinet Division, while briefing about the meeting’s decision.
She said earlier the cost of the project was increased by Tk 400 crore from the cost of Tk 1301.20 crore.
The committee gave its nod to another cost enhancement proposal of the Road Transportation and Bridge Ministry for curb simplification project of the Indrapur to Chakrashala portion of the Dhaka-Chattagram-Cox’s Bazar highway.
The ministry proposed to increase the cost of the project by Tk 12.58 crore to Tk 75.45 crore from Tk 62.85 crore.
Three more cost increase proposals were placed by the Power Division. But later the Power Division withdrew the proposals saying that there was some errors in their calculation, meeting sources said.
