Lablu, chief reporter of Bhorer Kagoj and former president of Crime Reporters' Association of Bangladesh (CRAB), breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) around 10pm at the age of 52.
Quamruzzaman Khan, senior reporter of the vernacular daily, said Lablu had long been suffering from liver disease. He had been on life support at the hospital.
His first namaz-e-janaza will be held in front of the Bhorer Kagoj office at New Circular Road at 11am on Tuesday while the second one at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) at 12pm.
He will be buried at Azimpur graveyard following another janaza at the Jatiya Press Club after Asr prayers.
Hasan Arefin, managing editor of the Daily Natun Kagoj and an executive committee member of the Jatiya Press Club, died of cardiac arrest at Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital in the morning. He was 60.
He was the founding president of Dhaka-based Patuakhali Journalists’ Forum (PJF) and former organising secretary of the DRU.
Victim’s son Ferozul Ferdous said his father was taken to the hospital with severe chest pain and died in the hospital about 9am.
His first janaza was held on the Jatiya Press Club premises after Zohr prayers.
Later, his body was taken to the DRU where his second janaza was held.
Hasan Arefin will be buried at his family graveyard at Jolisha village in Dumki upazila of Patuakhali on Tuesday.
