Munshiganj, Oct 19 (UNB) – A sub-inspector of police and his two accomplices were detained for trying to snatch hilsa from fishermen by intimidating them of the ongoing government ban on netting those from Padma river in Lauhajang upazila on Friday.
Locals and fishermen detained SI Sohel of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), also a resident of Jainashar village in Sirajdikhan upazila of the district, and his associates Md Mohon, 24, Liton Shekhor, 22.
Officer-in-charge of Laohajang Police Station Liakat Ali said locals handed over the trio to the police station after detaining them when they were trying to grip the fishes from the fishermen.
Sohel was produced before the court soon after a case was filed against him on Friday, the OC added.
The allegation was found to be true after primary investigation, said Additional Police Super of Laouhajang Kazi Maksuda Lima.
However, the government put a ban on netting hilsa from 7 October to 28 October.
