The arrestees are Chandan, Hasan and Nazmul. They are FIR-named accused in the case filed over the incident, said officer-in-charge of Barguna Police Station Abir Mohammad Hossain.
They made the arrest after scrutinising the video footage of the incident, he said, adding that several teams of police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) were trying to arrest the rest.
Rifat Sharif, 22, was hacked to death by miscreants, including Nayan, Rifat Farazi, Rishan Farazi and Rabbi Akon, in front of his wife in the district town of Barguna on Wednesday.
The entire incident was captured in a surveillance camera. It was seen in the footage that the miscreants were hacking Rifat indiscriminately while his wife Ayesha Siddiqua Minni was trying to resist the attackers.
However, the attackers pushed her aside and continued to chop the youth until he soaked in blood.
Meanwhile, Rifat was laid to eternal rest at their family graveyard of Labangola village in Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon after postmortem.
He was buried around 5:30pm following a namaz-e-janaza attended by huge people.
Rifat Sharif died of excessive bleeding from six deep wounds to his body, said Dr Jamil Hossain, an assistant professor of Surgery Department at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal.
He received injuries to his throat, head and chest and most of his important veins were severed that prompted his death, he told reporters after conducting an autopsy on his body.
Rifat married Ayesha, a student of Barguna Govt College, of the Police Lines area two months back.
Talking to UNB, Ayesha said Nayan used to harass her. “When I informed my family of the matter, they married me off to Rifat socially.”
However, Nayan continued to harass her even after her marriage, she said, adding that she informed it to her husband which led to a dispute between them.
“When we came out of the college gate, 4-5 criminals started beating my husband. After a while, Nayan, Rishan and Rifat Farazi started to hack my husband with sharp weapons,” Ayesha said while describing the tragic incident with tears rolling down her cheeks.
After the incident, Rifat’s father Dulal Sharif filed a case against 12 named and 5/7 unnamed people, said the OC.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered all concerned to bring to book those involved in the killing incident, said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
Besides, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan assured that no one of those involved in the murder will be spared and police have already arrested three people in connection with the murder.
The High Court also asked the government to issue red alert along the border so that the perpetrators cannot leave the country.
Earlier in the morning, the court asked Deputy Attorney General (DAG) ABM Abdullah AL Mahmud Bashar to inform it by 2pm today after contacting Barguna Deputy Commissioner and Police Super what steps had so far been taken over the incident.
It also expressed shock at the role of onlookers as no one came forward to rescue the youth. “All of the country’s people are shocked at the incident. Where’s the society heading to? The man was murdered in broad daylight on the road but no one other than one came to his rescue…many people witnessed the incident and recorded video of it but no one came forward. This is the failure of people.”
Supreme Court lawyer Ruhul Kuddus Kajal brought the matter to court’s notice after placing newspaper reports.
