Shariatpur, June 26 (UNB) - A tribunal here on Wednesday sentenced two people to death for gang-raping a girl at Mahmud Shikdarkandi village in Zanjira upazila in 2015.
The condemned convicts are Sujon Bepari, 28, son of late Obaidul Bepari, and Shamim Bepari, 26, son of Rahman Bepari of the village. They were tried in absentia as they jumped the bail two years ago.
According to the prosecution, Sujon and Shamim swooped on the victim on April 22, 2015 when she came out of their house at night to respond to the call of nature.
They gagged her and took her to a bamboo bush where they took turns to rape her.
Family members rescued the girl after the rapists left her abandoned.
Victim’s mother field a case with Zanjira Police Station accusing three people.
Judge Salman Khan of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict acquitting another accused as the allegation brought against him was not proved.
