The boy was identified as Naim, who is now 19 years old, son of Omar Ali and Asia Begum of Pangsha Upazila in Rajbari district.
After his identification, Naim was handed over to his parents in presence of Abdul Awal, deputy commissioner of Jashore, Ashit Kumar Saha, deputy director of Department of Social Welfare, Abdullah Al Masud, Superintendent of Adolescent Development Centre in Jashore, Mushfiqur Rahman, Psycho-Social Councilor at
The and Masum Billah, district probation officer.
Mushfiqur Rahman said that Naim who could only say his name went missing from Mohammadpur area in Dhaka in 2006.
On May 14, 2007, Naim was taken to the Adolescent Development Centre of Jashore where he languished for the next 12 years.
Eventually, an Ansar member who was appointed as security guard at the adolescent centre recently recognized Naim as he knew Naim’s parents through his in-laws.
Naim’s father told him that his minor boy went missing over a decade back and he searched for him but failed as he is a rickshaw puller.
‘I’m so happy now,’ he added.
Meanwhile, superintendent of the center said they have 8 more adolescents at the centre whose parents and family ties remain unknown.
