The programme will be held at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium, said Oikyafront convener Dr Kamal Hossain after a meeting of the alliance’s steering committee at his Motijheel chamber.
He said they decided to reschedule the public hearing as they failed to manage any venue in the capital to hold the programme on February 24.
Kamal said the public hearing will begin at 10am and continue till 4-5pm with a one-hour break from 1pm.
Replying to a query as to what they want to achieve from the public hearing, Dr Kamal said people are the owners of the country as per the Constitution. “Election is an important issue. The people will be able to know (through the public hearing) what happened on December 30. The candidates will place their firsthand experiences.”
Asked whether the Jamaat leaders who contested the election with BNP’s election symbol ‘Sheaf of Paddy, will join the event, Dr Kamal Hossain said he is not aware of it.
However, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) president ASM Abdur Rob said all the candidates of the Oikyafront and the left democratic alliance will be invited to join the public hearing.
Gono Forum general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu said Jamaat was not there in the election with Jatiya Oikyafront.
JSD present Abdur Rob, BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Gono Forum executive president Subrata Chowdhury, general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu and Gonoshasthya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury were, among others, present at the meeting with Dr Kamal in the chair.
Earlier on Sunday, Jatiya Oikyafront alleged that it was not getting any venue in the capital to hold its scheduled public hearing on the 11th parliamentary election on February 24 due to obstruction by the government.
