Over 3,500 students from 70 public and private universities across the country are expected to join the month-long meet.
Ten disciplines of sports -- football, cricket, swimming, athletics, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, handball, cycling and badminton -- are included in the mega sports festival.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell disclosed these at a press conference at the National Sports Council on Wednesday.
The event will be inaugurated at Bangabandhu National Stadium on March 18 and the closing ceremony will be held on April 17 with a students’ parade.
The championships will continue for a month at the universities across the country. The top three winners of every event will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medal respectively.
The highest gold medal-winning male and female participants will be awarded “Best Male University Athlete” and “Best Female University Athlete” trophies respectively.
Besides, the highest gold medal-winning university team will be awarded the “Bangabandhu Inter-University Sports Champions Trophy 2019” which the winning university will be able to keep for a year.
There will be a “Torch Relay” and “Trophy Tour” at all participant universities before the event starts.
