Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh captain, registered his first-ever five-for in T20I in the match conceding 20 runs and helped the Tigers win the mach.
Earlier, Liton Das hit a fifty and Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad added 42 and 43 runs respectively on the board to post a total of 211.
Later, Shakib was adjudged man of the match for the all-round performance.
West Indies lost their first wicket when they had only 18 on the board. Evin Lewis, the left-handed explosive batsman, skied a shot straight but Liton Das grabbed a super catch. Abu Hider Rony was the bowler to take the wicket.
In the second wicket stand, the touring side added 41 runs. Mustafizur Rahman conceded 24 runs off the fourth over which was his first over.
Bangladesh could have lost the chance of winning the game, but Shakib Al Hasan broke the stand removing Nicholas Pooran. In the next over, Mehidy Hasan Miraz trapped Shai Hope who has been rolling over the Bangladeshi bowlers since the second ODI of the series.
Shai Hope’s dismissal came as the biggest blow for the visitors while replying to a total of 211 runs. Shakib Al Hasan struck double wickets in the 11th over removing Shimron Hetmyer and Darren Bravo. They suffered further blow when Mushfiqur Rahim’s clever stumping removed Carlos Brathwaite in a wide delivery. Carlos missed going to sweep the ball and failed to back to the crease before Mushfqur shattered his stumps.
After losing six wickets, West Indies needed to do something extraordinary but they failed. They finished their innings on 175 all out. Rovman Powell hit a fifty but his effort went in vain as they lost the match.
Bangladesh posted their highest T20I total against West Indies in the first innings after being sent to bat first having lost the toss. Liton Das hit his second T20I fifty while making a 68-run stand with Soumya Sarkar in the second wicket partnership.
The Tigers lost the first wicket when Tamim failed to clear a Fabian Allen delivery. Tamim added 15 runs as he failed to utilise a chance that he got on 13.
Soumya and Liton departed on 32 and 60 respectively in the same over off Sheldon Cottrell who had struck four wickets in the first contest of the three-match series. In the very next over, Bangladesh lost Mushfiqur Rahim who went for a big shot but skied and got caught at the boundary.
After losing four wickets, Bangladesh were fearing a sub-par score. But in the fifth wicket stand, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad added 91 runs which is the record of the highest fifth-wicket stand of the Tigers in T20I.
Sheldon Cottrell, the left-arm pacer of West Indies, took two of Bangladesh wickets that fell in the match.
Bangladesh lost the series opener in Sylhet. So, they had no alternative but to win the game to remain alive in the series. The last match of the series will take place at the same venue on December 22 which became a series decider now.
