Panchagarh, May 21 (UNB) – Toll has been demanded from the Zila Parishad chairman, one of its members and several local traders in the name of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) leader Major Zia’s followers.
A caller demanded Tk 5 lakh from Zila Parishad chairman and district Awami League general secretary Anwar Sadat Samrat.
He filed a general diary with Sadar Police Station in this regard.
The ruling party leader said he received a phone call after 5pm on May 17 when the caller introduced him as a follower of ABT leader Major Zia.
Mentioning that they need Tk 50-60 lakh to get their arrested leaders and activists released from jail, the caller demanded Tk 5 lakh from him, he said.
The unknown caller also threatened to kill him and his family members if the demand was not met, Samrat said.
Zila Parishad member Monwar Hossain Dipu, and traders Babul Khan, Abdul Mannan and Saif Jamil Likhon also received similar phone calls demanding toll.
Monwar also lodged a GD with the police station.
Inspector (Investigation) of Sadar Police Station Jamal Hossain said they were investigating the matter.
He also urged all not to be panicked, saying they would be able to find clues within a couple of day.
