Dhaka, Apr 16 (UNB) – Two teenage girls have reportedly been gang-raped while four others ‘violated’ in different districts across the country.
Besides, a garment worker has repeatedly been ‘raped’ in Chattogram with the promise of marriage, a boy was sexually assaulted by a madrasa teacher and another girl was sexually ‘harassed’.
In Moulvibazar, a domestic help who used to work in Sylhet city was ‘gang-raped’ at Ashurighat in Kulaura upazila on Saturday. Hailing from Bhukshimoil, her family used to reside in Kulaura municipality area.
Family members said the victim returned to their rented house from Sylhet on Saturday.
While going to her village home at Bhukshimoil, Shukkur Ali, 37, son of late Abdullah Mia of Gouri Shankar village in the upazila who was an acquaintance to her, abducted her from the municipality area around 7pm and took her to Ashurighat in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw where six of his accomplices had already been waiting.
Later, all of them took turns to rape the girl.
They also took video clip of the nefarious act and threatened to upload it on the internet if she does not comply with their call to physically engage with them in the future.
Shukkur dropped the girl in front of her residence around 11:30pm after treatment at the upazila health complex as she fell sick.
As the victim narrated the incident to her mother, she informed police if it on Tuesday afternoon.
Officer-in-charge of Kulaura Police Station Yeardous Hasan said they arrested a young man – Hasan, 24 – over the incident and were trying to arrest rest of the accused.
In Narayanganj, a 14-year-old girl fell victim to ‘gang-rape’ after she went to her friend’s house in Mahmudpur area of Sadar upazila on Sunday.
Officer-in-charge of Fatullah Model Police Station Aslam Hossain said the victim was returning from her friend’s house when brother-in-law of her friend Sharif tactfully took her to the rooftop of their house where Al Amin, Sharif and his nephew Barkat Ali raped her.
Victim’s family informed police of the matter on Monday night and police arrested Al Amin over the incident.
In Chattogram, police arrested six people, including an auto driver and women, over the ‘repeated’ rape and torture of a teenage garment worker in the city.
The detainees were identified as auto driver Md Nizam Uddin, 30, his wife Tania Begum, 27, Popy Begum, 30, Sonia Begum, 22, Md Liton, 29, and Firoza Begum, 65.
Officer-in-charge of Sadarghat Police Station Md Nizam Uddin said the victim who is worker of Agrabad Mir Fashion filed a case in this regard.
According to the case statement, Nizam had been living together with the victim at a rented house in Nazirpara area of the city for the past 6-7 months promising to marry her.
On April 1, when Nizam’s wife Tania came to know about the matter, she caught the girl and took her to their house in Madarbari area, tortured her brutally for seven days and took video footage of the torture.
Nizam’s wife cut off the hair of the victim, scalded her cheek and made her sign on a blank paper.
On April 7, the victim managed to flee from Tania’s captive and but did not inform police of it out of fear.
However, police reached the victim through one of their sources, rescued her and arrested the miscreants, the OC said.
In Rajbari, police arrested a man as he reportedly raped a fifth grader in Goalanda upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Goalandaghat Police Station Ezaz Shafi said Tariqul Islam Rimon ‘raped’ the victim on April 4 when she was returning home from a local shop.
Later on April 15, Rimon again went to the victim’s house when she was alone and tried to violate her.
However, neighbours rushed in after hearing her scream but Rimon fled the scene.
After receiving a complaint on Tuesday morning, police arrested Rimon, the OC said.
In another incident, police arrested two young men as they reportedly sexually harassed a sixth grader publicly at Daulatdia of the upazila.
The arrestees were identified as Rana Mollah, 20, his friend Ashraful Islam, 20.
The OC said Rana who used to stalk the girl harassed her while she was returning from her school on Thursday afternoon.
In Feni, a teacher of Korshmunsi Darul Madrasa was arrested on Monday for allegedly raping his eight-year-old student in Dagonbhuiyan Upazila.
Fifty-three-year old Shahidur Rahman, the accused, sexually assaulted the second grader residential student on Sunday night, police said.
Shahidur was arrested on Monday evening from the madrassa. The victim’s family has filed a police complaint.
In Sylhet, a man, accused of raping his sister-in-law, was arrested on Tuesday in Sadipur Union of Osmaninagar Upazila.
Police said Zakir Mia, 28, raped the girl on Monday when her mother went out for work. The mother filed a case with Osmaninagar police the same night.
The girl has been sent to Sylhet Osmani hospital for medical tests, police said.
In Cumilla, a truck driver was arrested on Monday in Burichang Upazila for raping a fourth grader.
The victim’s father has field a case against the suspect, Shah Alam, hailing from the same upazila.
Police said the girl was returning home from Baishakhi fair at Kadamtali Kalibari when Alam lured her to a graveyard promising to give her Tk 500. Locals caught him in the act and handed him over to police.
“Alam has confessed to raping the girl,” sub-inspector Pushpa Baran Chakma. The victim has been sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for medical tests.
In Rajshahi, a young man was arrested in Taherpur municipality for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.
Al-Amin, 20, raped his neighbour at an abandoned tin-shed hut around 8pm Monday, locals said. They caught him after learning about the incident and handed him over to police two hours later.
The victim was initially admitted to Bagmara Health Complex but was transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as her condition deteriorated.
