“The agriculture sector is now unprofitable as farmers have been the most neglected section of the society. Farmers have no alternative but to be united to realise their rights,” he said.
Quader made the remarks while speaking at the biennial council of Jatiya Krishak Party at the Central Kachi Kancha auditorium in the capital.
He said farmers are deprived of their rights and fair prices of their produces because of a foul play by middlemen while the real farmers do not get the government subsidy.
“Farmers don’t get fair prices of paddy when they want to sell it, but after they sell paddy, the price of rice goes up. When the government procures crops, some unscrupulous political leaders deprive the farmers of their rights using their clout,” he observed.
Recalling the role of the Jatiya Party founder in ensuring the welfare of farmers, he said HM Ershad proved that he was the real friend of farmers through his activities.
He urged framers to strengthen Jatiya Party with their support as the party does politics for the betterment of common people.
In the council, Jatiya Krishak Party leader Saidur Rahman Tepa and ABM Liakat Hossain Chakladar were made president and general secretary respectively of the organisation for the next two years.
