Naogaon, Jul 7 (UNB) - Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Sunday said that the government will buy more paddy directly from the farmers, if its price continues to fall in the market.
While visiting food warehouses in Raninagar, Atrai and Niamatpur upazilas, the minister made the pledge.
“The government has been buying 4,000 metric tonnes of paddy in two phases along with rice to benefit farmers, and government will buy more if the price falls further,” he said.
All the government food warehouses are collecting paddy and rice. He also instructed all the executive officers to monitor properly so that no irregularities can take place in the process.
“About the market price, the minister said in the incumbent season the farmers got less price for paddy which will go upward once government will begin buying paddy,” Majumder said.
