IU vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari inaugurated the garden by planting as the chief guest around 12pm.
Speaking at the inaugural session, IU vice-chancellor said that they had adopted a long-term plan to make the campus a green one.
“To make the campus more green and lively, we have come up with multi-faceted plans, including the creation of the Lake, Botanical Garden,” he added.
IU pro-vice-chancellor Professor M Shahinoor Rahman, treasurer Professor M Selim Toha, IU former proctor and syndicate member Professor M Mahbubar Rahman, marketing department chairman Professor M Zakaria Rahman, acting chief engineer Alimuzzaman Totul, IU BCL unit president Robiul Islam Polash and its general secretary Rakibul Islam Rakib were present on the occasion.
The university authorities planted a total of 80 breeds of trees in the garden.
