Prosecution witness testifies in Abrar murder case

A prosecution witness testified before a tribunal in the murder case of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) student Abrar Fahad who was beaten to death by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men.
Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman recorded the statement of Sub-Inspector Delwar Hossain.
Abrar’s father Barkat Ullah, the plaintiff of the case, was questioned by the lawyers of the accused on Wednesday.
The court fixed Thursday for the next hearing of the case.
So far, only two witnesses among 60 have made their deposition.
The trial in the sensational murder case began Monday with the deposition of witnesses.
On Sept 15, the tribunal framed charges against 25 accused in the case.

Three of the accused – Jishan, Rafid and Tanim – are absconding.
Abrar, 21, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering, was beaten to death reportedly by then Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university.
He was found dead on the staircase of the hall in the early hours of October 7 last year. His murder sparked a nationwide outcry.
On Nov 13, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) submitted charge sheet before the court. On Nov 18, the court accepted the chargesheet against 25 accused.
On January 13 this year, the case was shifted to the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court from Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
On March 12, the murder case was moved to Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 after Abrar’s parents met the Law Minister and urged to shift the case to a speedy trial tribunal.
