Saying Goodbye to the Wickets: Stuart Broad Ends His Cricketing Odyssey
England's formidable fast-bowler, Stuart Broad, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, leaving behind a remarkable legacy as one of the sport's finest.
The shocking announcement came during the ongoing Ashes Test at The Oval.
Broad declared that the ongoing Ashes match would be his last in his cricketing career, bidding farewell to the cricketing world for good.
Tigers to Prove Fitness Ahead of Asia Cup"Tomorrow or Monday will be my last game of cricket," the pacer revealed to Sky Sports after day three of The Oval Test.
Shoriful gets BCB's nod to play in LPLWith an illustrious career spanning 167 Tests, Stuart Broad made history as the second fast-bowler ever to claim over 600 wickets in Test cricket, only trailing his teammate James Anderson.
His most memorable performance came in 2015 against Australia when he stunningly secured eight wickets in one innings, conceding a mere 15 runs.
Asia Cup 2023 Fixtures: Team List, Schedule, and VenuesReflecting on his journey, Broad expressed, "It’s been a wonderful ride, a huge privilege to wear the Nottinghamshire and England badge as much as I have," as quoted by the AP news agency.
Surprisingly, he disclosed that the decision to retire was made only the previous night. "About 8:30 last night. I’ve been thinking about it for a couple of weeks. England versus Australia has always been the pinnacle for me," he shared when asked about the timing of his choice.
"I told Stokesy (England captain Ben Stokes) last night and the changing room this morning, and it just felt the right time. I feel content with everything I’ve achieved in the game," he added.
Having planned to bid farewell in an Ashes match, Broad got the perfect opportunity to do so at The Oval. "I’ve got a love affair with Ashes cricket, and I wanted my last game to be Ashes cricket," he expressed fondly.
Stuart Broad played a pivotal role in England's victorious 2010 T20 World Cup campaign and, apart from his 167 Tests, he participated in 121 ODIs and 56 T20Is, amassing an impressive total of 845 international wickets.
On the fourth day of The Oval Test, the Australians paid tribute to the esteemed cricketer, honoring him with a guard of honour as he took the field for one last time.

Tigers to Prove Fitness Ahead of Asia Cup
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to host a camp with at least 32 cricketers starting from July 31st.
Initially, the camp will provide an opportunity for the cricketers to improve their fitness. On August 3rd, the players will undergo a Yo-Yo Test. Those who pass the fitness test might earn a spot in the main squad for the Asia Cup.
Minhazul Abedin, the chief selector of BCB, said that the squad for the Asia Cup will be announced in the first week of August.
Shoriful gets BCB's nod to play in LPL"We want to assess the fitness level of the cricketers," Minhazul told the reporters on Sunday in Mirpur. "We've initially selected 32 players for the camp. Following the Yo-Yo Test, we will narrow it down to 21 cricketers. By the end of the first week of August, we'll announce the final squad for the Asia Cup."
Tamim Iqbal, the opener, is going to miss the start of the camp as he is currently in London, undergoing treatment for a back injury. It's unclear whether he will join the camp soon.

Shoriful Islam, Towhid Hridoy, and Afif Hossain went to Sri Lanka to play in the new season of the Lankan Premier League, so they will miss the start of the camp.

Tamim Iqbal
Tamim Iqbal’s presence in the world cup is still in doubt. But he might join the squad if situation is favourable.
Tamim Iqbal has been playing cricket for a long time and has been leading the Bangladesh team in ODI matches since 2020. He has done a great job as the captain, and one of the significant achievements during his captaincy was when Bangladesh won a series of ODI matches against South Africa in 2022.
He has been active in international cricket since 2007 and is the highest run-getter in ODIs for Bangladesh. Currently, he has played 241 matches and scored 8313 runs with 56 half-centuries and 14 centuries at a strike rate of 78.54.
Litton Das
Litton Das has an important role in the team to give them a strong and energetic start with his aggressive way of batting. In the last World Cup, he played five matches and did well as a middle-order batsman. He scored 184 runs in those five matches at a strike rate of 110.17, which means he scored runs quickly and helped the team score at a good pace. In this World Cup, Litton might also be appointed as vice captain.

Overall, Litton played 72 ODIs and collected 2213 runs with the bat at a strike rate of 88.06. Although he does not play as the team’s regular wicketkeeper, he can also be seen behind the wicket with the wicketkeeper’s gloves when required.
Najmul Hossain Shanto
Shanto will be batting at a crucial position, number three, in the team. He has been playing really well this year and has been in great form. Fans can trust and depend on him because he has already scored 429 runs in 12 ODI matches in 2023. He seems to be a promising player for the team with his impressive performances.
Mushfiqur Rahim
Mushfiqur Rahim, the wicketkeeper-batsman, has been a key player for Bangladesh for more than fifteen years. He has played a big role in winning many matches for the team throughout his cricket career. In September 2022, he decided to retire from T20 internationals so that he could focus more on playing ODI and Test matches. And we have seen the improvements. This year turned out to be his most successful year in terms of ODI performance, as he scored 446 runs in 12 matches at an impressive average of 55.75. His consistency and skill with the bat have been vital for his team’s success in the ODI format.
Further, he is the second-highest run-scorer for his team in the ODI World Cup. He has scored a total of 877 runs in 29 World Cup matches, with a strike rate of 79.71.

Towhid Hridoy
Twenty-two year old Towhid Hridoy has been a recent wonder in Bangladesh cricket. Against Ireland this year, he missed out on a century on his ODI debut. Still, the innings of 92 runs against Ireland holds a special value. He played 9 matches so far and scored 338 runs with 3 fifties and an impressive 97.68 strike rate. Hridoy will surely play a key role in Bangladesh’s batting lineup.
Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib Al Hasan will be the most crucial player for Bangladesh in the upcoming World Cup because of his exceptional all-round abilities. The 36-year-old cricketer has recently achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Bangladeshi player to take 300 wickets in ODI. His performance with both bat and ball makes him a key asset for the team and a player to watch out for in the tournament.
Shakib Al Hasan is Bangladesh’s most successful player in the World Cup, excelling both as a batsman and a bowler. In the 29 World Cup matches, Shakib has scored an impressive total of 1146 runs, including two centuries and 10 fifties. Shakib has also been impressive with the ball in the 50-over World Cup. He has taken a total of 34 wickets at an economy rate of 5.11, showcasing his skill and effectiveness as a bowler.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz
Miraz might be included in the starting XI for bowling support and for slight batting support. However, he doesn’t have an impressive performance. This year he played 10 ODI matches and scored 132 runs only. With the ball, he took 9 wickets with 2/35. Overall, he played 77 ODIs for Bangladesh and scored 888 runs and took 88 wickets.

Mahmudullah
Bangladesh is struggling at the 7th position in batting; Mahmudullah might be a good option in that position. With a vast experience of playing over 200 ODIs, his presence in the World Cup campaign will hold great significance for the team. He has scored 616 runs in 15 innings at a strike rate of 81.58 in three World Cups so far.
Mosaddek Hossain
Mosaddek is another option for the 7th batting position. Although he has not played any ODIs in 2023, he played only one innings in 2022 and scored only 14 runs. But he had a great performance in the Dhaka Premier League. In the 2019 ODI Cricket World Cup, Mosaddek could not even score 30 runs in any match. So, he has a fifty-fifty chance this World Cup.
Yasir Ali
Yasir is another contender apart from Mahmudullah and Mosaddek. Debuting in 2022, he scored a total of 102 runs from 9 matches. And this year, he has appeared in 2 matches so far and contributed 24 runs.
Taskin Ahmed
With his vast experience, Taskin will lead the pace attack in the upcoming World Cup 2023. The right-arm bowler has taken 81 wickets in 59 ODIs at an economy rate of 5.43. He has played in the World Cup only once and took nine wickets in six matches at an economy rate of 6.37 in the 2015 World Cup. However, the pacer made a grand comeback after being sidelined in the 2019 edition.

When Bangladesh beat the hosts 2–1 in the three-match ODI series in South Africa in March 2022, Taskin took eight wickets in three matches at an economy rate of 4.86. This year he took 12 wickets in 4 innings. Taskin is currently ranked 45th in the ICC bowler rankings.
Mustafizur Rahman
In addition to Taskin Ahmed, another important player in Bangladesh’s fast bowling attack is Mustafizur Rahman. He is a left-handed bowler, and his bowling style is really effective against right-handed batsmen. Apart from this, his slower cutter also puts the batters in trouble.
The cutter muster is currently Bangladesh’s fourth highest wicket-taker, with 148 wickets in 89 matches at an economy rate of 5.08. This year he played 7 innings and took 7 wickets.
Shoriful Islam
Although Shoriful debuted in 2021, he became a regular in 2022. So far, he has played 17 matches and taken 26 wickets with 4/21 best bowling figures against Afghanistan. This year he appeared in 3 matches and took 7 wickets at a 5.43 economy rate. So, Shariful’s extreme speed will surely help Bangladesh on the World Cup stage.

Ebadot Hossain
Ebadot Hossain has played only 12 ODIs for Bangladesh but has earned praise from cricket experts for his pace. Batsmen struggle to bat his bowl as his speed is around 140+ km/h. The 29 year old pacer has taken 22 wickets at an economy rate of 5.60 in 11 ODI innings so far. His best bowling figures of 4/42 came against Ireland in an ODI at Sylhet in March this year.
Hasan Mahmud
Hasan Mahmud can bowl tirelessly in long spells. He bowls at a speed of 135 to 142 kmph, and he is a very effective bowler, especially in the death overs. It was seen in domestic events. He appeared in 7 ODI matches this year and took 12 wickets with 5/32 best bowling at 5.21 economy rate.
Taijul Islam
Taijul can be a great support for Bangladesh’s bowling lineup. So, the coach and team management made him ready for the World Cup, as he played 6 matches this year. He took 10 wickets from these 6 matches, with 3/54 at 5.43 econ. Overall, Taijul played 18 ODI matches for Bangladesh and took 30 wickets.
Final Words
So far, we have discussed a predicted Bangladesh squad for ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. This selection is based on the recent performance of the players as well as comments from the experts and BCB officials. However, before the 2023 World Cup Cricket tournament, all these players are required to put effort into the upcoming Asia Cup.

Can Bangladesh Win the World Cup 2023?
Over the past 12 years, Bangladesh’s exceptional performance and high-quality cricket on the subcontinent wickets have earned them a place among the favorites. The team’s prowess and consistent display of skills have led to them being shortlisted as strong contenders for the World Cup 2023. The most surprising fact is that Bangladesh has whitewashed its opponents 10 times in the last 12 years in the ODI format. However, series wins are not counted in this list. From this, everyone understands how strong Bangladesh is in ODIs in subcontinental conditions. Ever since the T20 whitewash of England, the chances of Bangladesh winning the World Cup have become more obvious.
Bangladesh is gradually becoming a great team in batting, bowling, and fielding. One of the best bowlers like Mustafiz in this team now tends to lose his chance in the XI. Taskin-Hasan-Ebadot trio is considered one of the best-pacing trios.
Miraz’s pairing with Shakib Al Hasan in spin can be dangerous. If three pacers can do their job well, two spinners can destroy a team. But if the game is played on the spin pitch, who will be the third spinner along with Shakib and Miraz is still in question. However, the team is working on that. A leg spinner is being groomed with that in mind.
Besides Nasum, Taijul are also staying in the race for only one spot. It can be said that the Bangladesh team is almost confirmed for the World Cup. The batting order from 1-6 has also been fixed. Tamim, Litton, Shanto, Shakib, Towhid, and Mushfiq will bat from 1 to 6. But no. 7 is the main concern for the Bangladesh team because this position requires a finisher. Yasir Ali, Afif, Mahmudullah, and Mosaddek are the main contenders for batting at no 7.

Final Words
So far, we have discussed the scheldude of Bangladesh in the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup tournament. Bangladesh has a great possibility to proceed to the semifinal. In that case, we will get to see at least one more match. And if the Tigers reach the final, we will see them playing on November 19.

Just 30 overs were possible during a gloomy afternoon, with the morning and evening sessions wiped out by the weather, as Australia finished 61 runs behind on 214-5 in its second innings.

With the forecast dreadful again for the fifth and final day, England badly needed to make inroads but hit a brick wall as Marnus Labuschagne converted his overnight 44 into a vital 111.
Labuschagne has had a lean series by his own high standards but stepped up for his side to nudge them closer to the draw that would guarantee the urn joins them on the flight back to Australia.
At 2-1 down, England needs to find a way through the showers to square the ledger and force a decider at the Oval next week.

Labuschagne shared a 103-run stand with Mitch Marsh as the duo threatened to shut the door completely.
Root made the most of an unexpected role with the ball to land an important blow. England was using the part-time spinner only due to bad light, with the umpires deciding the visibility deteriorated too much for the seamers to operate. Root's unpredictable style added a new threat to an attack that had fallen flat in tricky conditions.
England's pace unit was neutralized by the damp outfield, which softened up the ball and wrecked its chances of getting it to swing.
With first-choice spinner Moeen Ali looking out of sorts as he struggled to find any rhythm, Root took it upon himself to press the issue.

He served up a variety of different deliveries, getting some to kick and holding others back to gain drift.
He almost had Labuschagne on 93 when he sent one down seam up and shaped it away, but a thick edge sailed hard and fast past Zak Crawley at slip.
Labuschagne landed blows of his own, launching Root for two consecutive sixes over wide long-on, and made his way to three figures for just the second time on foreign soil and the 11th time overall.
There were just four overs left when Labuschagne stepped back in his crease and shaped to cut Root on a tight line around off stump. Jonny Bairstow did well to hold the edge after juggling it. Labuschagne's unsuccessful review earned him an extra send-off from a crowd which waited all day for something to celebrate.
He left Marsh to carry on the fight with 31 from 107 deliveries, a watchful knock that saw him shelve his natural attacking instincts.
Root mustered a half-chance against the allrounder late on, but Harry Brook was unable to grab a fiercely tricky one-handed catch at short leg.
With Cameron Green joining Marsh at the crease, Australia will feel it has enough to withstand whatever England can throw at them on day five and perhaps creep into a lead of their own.
England’s seamers had a tough time of it, with the quartet of James Anderson, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood and Stuart Broad laboring without luck before being withdrawn by the officials.
With no real demons in the pitch, precious little sign of low bounce, and a ball that died a little every time it was stroked into the wet grass, it took Wood’s pace to conjure anything out of the ordinary.
He cranked it up to 93 mph (150 kph) in a bid to take conditions out of the equation, but the closest he came to making it tell was a nasty blow to Labuschagne's finger.
Fargana leads the way as Bangladesh and India tie 3rd ODI, also series
Bangladesh Women came close to registering their first-ever ODI series win against the star-studded India but fell just short. Nonetheless, they can take pride in not losing the series against a team considered much stronger than Bangladesh.
At the end of the match, Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian captain, expressed her frustration with the umpiring in this series. She said, "I think therea are a lot for us to learn. We were very surprised by the umpiring in this series."
"The next time we come to Bangladesh, we will have to deal with this type of umpiring," she added.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bangladesh got off to a solid start with opener Shamima Sultana scoring a patient half-century. However, it was Fargana Hoque who stole the show, crafting a brilliant 107 off 160 deliveries—marking the maiden ODI century by a Bangladeshi woman. Fargana hit seven boundaries in her innings and single-handedly held the Bangladesh innings together as wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end.
In the end, Bangladesh managed to post a competitive total of 225/4 in their 50 overs, thanks to Fargana's heroics. Sneh Rana was the pick of the bowlers for India, taking two wickets for 45 runs, while Devika Vaidya took the other wicket.
Chasing 226 for victory, India got off to a poor start, losing opener Shafali Verma in the second over. Yastika Bhatia also fell cheaply, leaving India in trouble at 32/2. However, Harleen Deol and Smriti Mandhana put on a crucial partnership to steady the innings. In the third-wicket stand, they added 107 runs to the board.
Deol played a brilliant knock of 77 off 108 deliveries, hitting nine boundaries in the process. She was involved in two important partnerships, first with Mandhana and then with Jemimah Rodrigues. Mandhana posted 59 off 85 balls, while Jemimah remained unbeaten on 33 off 45 balls.
However, India lost wickets at crucial junctures, including Deol, who was run out in the 42nd over, which kept the game in the balance.
With one over to go, India needed 3 runs to win. However, Bangladesh held their nerve and managed to tie the game, with India finishing on 225/10 in 49.3 overs.
Marufa conceded two runs off the first two balls of the last over, and on the third ball, she scalped the wicket of Meghna Singh, confirming India's inability to win this match. India lost the last five wickets for just 34 runs.
For Bangladesh, Nahida Akter picked up three wickets, and Marufa Akter scalped two, while Fahima Khatun and Sultana Khatun took a wicket each.
“We are looking forward to carrying this moment. As a batting unit, we collapse usually, but from here, we can have many takeaways moving forward,” Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana said.
With this thrilling tie, Bangladesh managed to level the series. The Tigress had won the first match of the series, but India bounced back in the second match.
