Derogatory remarks on PM: HC orders removal of Alal’s videos from social media
The High Court has ordered the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove from social media the videos containing BNP leader Moazzem Hossain Alal's derogatory remarks on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order.

The BTRC chairman has been asked to execute the order.
Earlier, Barrister Syed Saidul Haque Sumon brought the matter to the notice of the court.
On Tuesday, a student of Dhaka University filed a case against BNP Joint Secretary General Alal at Shahbagh Police Station for making indecent comments on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Another student filed a complaint over the same matter.
Rangpur custodial death: HC forms 3-member committee
The High Court on Wednesday formed a three-member committee to investigate the death of Tajul Islam at Haragach Police Station in Rangpur.
The HC bench Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman passed the order and asked the committee to submit its report within 15 working days.
Headed by Rangpur District and Sessions Judge, the other members of the committee are—additional deputy commissioner and additional police commissioner of Rangpur.

Advocate Jyotirmoy Barua stood for the petitioner while deputy attorney general Amit Das Gupta represented the state.
On December 3, the High Court ordered police to submit a report on the custodial death of Tajul Islam.
The High Court on November 24 ordered the Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner to take steps so that that the victim's family and local people are not harassed over the death of Tajul Islam in police custody.
The court then asked the state counsel to look into the matter. Following this, the matter came up for hearing on November 3.
Tajul Islam, 55, a resident of Dalalhat village in Haragach union, was reportedly beaten to death by police at Haragach Natun Bazar on November 1.
Tajul was detained with some drugs during police drive at Haragach Natun Bazar and he fell unconscious as police beat him up mercilessly.

Enraged by the incident, locals cordoned off Haragach police station, threw brick chips at police and vandalized some vehicles.
Police later fired rubber bullets and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the protesters.
On November 2, the High Court wanted to know the steps taken in connection with the death of Tajul in police custody.
20 to die for killing Buet student Abrar
A Dhaka court on Wednesday sentenced 20 young men to death and five others to life imprisonment for killing a 21-year-old student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) in October 2019.
Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamaruzzaman of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 handed down the punishment to the 25 men after holding them guilty of second-year engineering student Abrar Fahad's murder. Three of the convicts were tried in absentia.
Embezzlement of Tk176cr: HC orders arrest 15 accused in a week
The High Court on Tuesday ordered the authorities concerned to arrest in a week the 15 accused, including two former managing directors (MDs) of AB Bank, in a case over embezzling Tk 176 crore from AB Bank.
The court also directed the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), immigration police and the Inspector General of Police(IGP) to take step so that the accused cannot flee the country.

The accused are: former MDs of AB Bank Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury and Shamim Ahmed Chowdhury, owner of Ershad Brothers Corporation Md Ershad Ali, the bank's former EVP and branch manager ABM Abdus Sattar, SVP and former relationship manager Anisur Rahman, AVP Md Ruhul Amin, EVP and Head of CRM Wasika Afrozi, VP and CRM Member Mufti Mustafizur Rahman, Former SEVP and Head of CRM Salma Akter, AVP and CRM Member Emarat Hossain Fakir, Former Principal Officer Touhidul Islam, SVP and CRM member Shamim A Morshed, VP and CRM member Khandaker Rashed Anwar, AVP and CRM member Sirajul Islam, former VP and credit committee member Mahfuz-ul Islam.
The HC bench of Justice Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice AKM Zahirul Haque passed the order while hearing on the bail pleas of two accused in the case-Abdur Rahim, former AVP and relationship manager of the bank and Shahidul Islam, former VP of the bank, who are now behind bars.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why they should not be granted bail in the case.
Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the ACC while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik for the state.
Khurshid Alam Khan said that during the hearing of the bail pleas of Abdur Rahim and Shahidul Islam, the court wanted to know where are the rest 15 accused while these two are in jail.

Later, the court then ordered the arrest of the 15 fugitives, including two former MDs, a businessman and bank officials, in a week. The arrest must be made in seven days of receiving the order.
On June 9 this year, the ACC filed the case with its integrated office in Dhaka against the accused on charges of corruption and embezzlement of money.
According to the case, these officials worked together to prepare work orders by abusing their power for fraudulent purposes.
They withdrew TK176 crore using these fake documents and by giving seven illegal bank guarantees without the approval of the office and embezzled too.
Cumilla Councillor Murder: 4 remanded, DB to investigate case
A court here on Monday placed four accused in a case over the killing of Cumilla ward councillor Syed Mohammad Sohel and his aide on a 5-day remand each.
Meanwhile the case was handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) of police from the Kotwali police station for further investigation on Sunday.

Cumilla senior judicial magistrate court judge Chandan Kanti Nath passed the order after the investigation officer of the case sought a 7-day remand to interrogate the accused.
Those remanded are Md Ashikur Rahman Rocky, Md Alam Mia, Jishan Mia and Masum, said M Tanvir Ahmed, additional superintendent of police.
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members and police have so far arrested five accused and two more suspects in the double murder case.
Meanwhile, prime accused Shah Alam, Sabbir Hossain, Sajon Mia were killed in alleged gunfights with police.

On November 22, Sohel, Cumilla City Corporation (CCC) councillor of Ward-17, and one of his aides were killed, while four others sustained injuries when gunmen opened fire in his office in Pathuariapara.
Based on his younger brother Syed Rumon's complaint, as many as 21 people, some 10 of them unidentified, were booked by the Kotwali police for the double murder.
HC orders removal of objectionable audios, videos of junior minister Murad from social media
The High Court on Tuesday directed Bangladesh's telecom regulator to take necessary steps to remove all objectionable audios and videos of State Minister for Information Murad Hassan from social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube.
A division bench of Justices M Enayetur Rahim and Md Mostafizur Rahman gave the order to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and also asked Deputy Attorney General Bipul Bagmar to submit an action-taken report by Wednesday morning, in the wake of a plea by a leading Supreme Court lawyer.
In his petition, barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman claimed that such "indecent, obscene audios and videos can have adverse effects on the society”.
“The responsible agencies of the government should have removed these contents but as they did not, I’ve sought the High Court’s direction in public interest," he said in his plea.

During a recent social media interview, the junior Minister made "derogatory" remarks on opposition BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his daughter Zaima Rahman.
Meanwhile, a two-year-old phone conversation of the state minister with actor Mamnun Hasan Emon and actress Mahiya Mahi recently went viral on social media. In that audio clip, Murad made "derogatory comments" on the actress, threatened her and gave her an alleged indecent proposal.
On Monday night, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked Murad to resign from the cabinet by Tuesday over his recent derogatory remarks on social media, according to Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.

BNP on Monday demanded that the junior minister give a public apology and withdraw his “politically motivated, racial and derogatory” remarks against women and the Zia family.
Yaba pills worth Tk 9.60cr seized in Cox's Bazar
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Tuesday claimed to have seized over three lakh pieces of Yaba tablets worth Tk 9.60 crore in Cox's Bazaar.
Acting on a tip-off, a BGB team from Reju Amtoli border outpost raided the Goldebar Hill area of Raja Palong union in Ukhiya upazila around 8 pm on Monday.

During the raid, the team members challenged some armed people. But the suspected smugglers tossed a bag and escaped into the jungles, the border guards said in a statement.
Later, the BGB members seized 3.20 lakh Yaba pills, kept inside the bag. Legal action is being initiated in this regard, the statement said.
HC orders Tk 5 lakh compensation for Ramgati student Tamim’s treatment
The High court on Monday ordered the authorities concerned to pay Tk 5 lakh for the treatment of 5th grader Tamim Iqbal who lost his limbs from electrocution due to negligence of Palli Bidyut Samity.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman also ruled that why payment of Tk. 10 crore should not be ordered to be paid in compensation to the family of 12-year-old Tamim from Ramgati in Laxmipur.
The HC order came after hearing a petition filed by the schoolboy’s father Shahadat Hossain.

Secretary to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, chairman of Polli Bidyut Board, manager of Laxmipur Polli Bidyut Samity and two others were made respondents to the rule.
On September 25, Tamim from Katabania Government Primary School of Ramgati upazila in Laxmipur district got electrocuted after he came in contact with a snapped electric wire installed by Palli Bidyut Samity.
He has been undergoing treatment at the pediatric surgery department of Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute in Dhaka for the last two months.
According to the physicians, Tamim’s condition is critical as his left hand has been amputated, while the two fingers of his right leg would be severed through an operation.

Besides, he has a serious injury to his head.
On November 26, Amena Begum, mother of Tamim brought an allegation of negligence of Polly Bidyut Samity and demanded justice.
Tamim’s father is a day labour.
ACC lodges graft case against a Titas gas company sales assistant, his wife
The Anti- Corruption Commission ( ACC) on Monday filed a case against an official of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited Syed Ayez Uddin Ahmed and his wife for alleged misappropriation of TK 1 crore 3 lakh.

The case was filed with Dhaka Coordinated Office,ACC-1 primary investigation found evidence, ACC Deputy Director of ACC Public relation office Muhammad Arif Sadeq told UNB.
According to the case, sales assistant Syed Ayez and his wife Shahana Bilkis submitted their asset statement of TK 1 crore 17 lakh, which is much higher than their known source of income.

BGB detains 7 people along Jhenaidah border
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members arrested seven people, including an Indian citizen, from a border point in Maheshpur upazila early Sunday for reportedly entering Bangladesh from India without legal documents.
The detainees are: Mizahazul Islam, 32, son of late Ismail Miah, hailing from India’s South Dinajpur, Sohag Das, 28, son of Satendranath Das of Tarori village under Sadar police station of Magura district and his wife Konika Biswas, 21, and their baby boy Sapnil Das, Subarna Mandal, 38, wife of Shanto Mandal of Palashbaria village, her son Abhay Mandal, 10, and Ibadul Islam, 38, son of late Siddique Mollah of Kushodanga village of Satkhira’s Kalaroa.

Assistant Director of BGB Battalion- 58, Md Nazrul Islam Khan said they detained them from Kanaidanga village of the upazila early Sunday.
They were handed over to Maheshpur Police Station, he added.
