The number of criminal offenses against officials in Germany was "much too high", member of the Bundestag of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) Konstantin Kuhle who had filed the request,told the German newspaper Die Welt.
According to the ministry, with a total number of 440, most of the criminal offenses this year were committed by right-wing extremists, while 246 criminal offenses were said to have been committed by left-wing extremists. In 538 cases, the offenses could not be assigned to any political group.
German politicians of the governing Christian Democratic Union (CDU) were the most frequent targets of criminal offenses in Germany, with 161 reported cases, followed by representatives of the party AfD with 143 criminal offenses, BMI noted.
According to the ministry, 118 criminal offenses against politicians of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) while 97 against members of the Green Party had been recorded in 2019.
