Preview of BAN vs ENG 2nd ODI 2023
The Bangladesh squad were defeated in the opening ODI of the three-match series against England and are hoping to level the series by winning the second game. Tamim Iqbal's team is facing the English on Friday, March 3. The match will start at 12 noon Bangladesh time at Mirpur Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Let's take a look at the match preview, changes in the team, and probable players list of the 2023 BAN vs ENG 2nd ODI match.
Preview of 2nd ODI Match of Bangladesh vs England Series 2023
Bangladesh cricket team is unbeaten in seven consecutive series at home ground. So, the Tigers have no other option except to win in the second ODI to continue that streak. That is why it was essential to win the first two matches in order to guarantee the series.. Earlier in 2016, Bangladesh got the taste of defeat in the last bilateral series at home to England. After that, the Tigers won seven ODI series in a row.
However, Bangladesh’s beginning was not good. Bangladesh got a good start after winning the toss and batting in the first ODI. But without Najmul Hossain Shanto, other batsmen could not help much with the bat. Bangladesh lost all wickets lost in 47.2 overs and stopped at just 209 runs. Still, the team saw the dream of winning in Taijul, Miraz, and Shakib’s spin action. But Dawid Malan's brilliant century lead England to a three-wicket win.

England performed brilliantly in the first ODI according to their plan. England played a different plan on a wicket where India-Sri Lanka found it difficult. Clearly, David Malan's experience of playing in the Dhaka League and BPL for six consecutive years has come in handy. In addition to that, England's bowlers also played a big role with the ball.
However, experienced Bangladeshi players for the Mirpur pitch could not impact. For example, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan are more experienced in this pitch. But they failed to live up to expectations. When they were both dismissed while attempting to slog spinners in the middle overs, the rest of Bangladesh's batting line-up had to readjust their strategy. Najmul Hossain Shanto was unable to capitalize on his first ODI fifty, and Mahmudullah was out playing cautiously.
On the other hand, except for Malan’s knock, England did not have any significant achievements. Therefore, England will seek to boost their batting following Malan's substantial performance, while Bangladesh requires their batsmen to make the most of the beginning of their innings. The bowling from both sides was exemplary. Taskin Ahmed and the Bangladesh spinners gave it their all. Despite their efforts, the final three wickets escaped England, yet they successfully kept the opposition to a modest total.

Mustafiz’s magic is not working in Dhaka's pitch lately. So, Ebadot Hossain or Hasan Mahmud can be an alternative to Mustafiz in the second ODI.
England did not keep Sam Curran, Saqib Mahmood, Rehan Ahmed and Reece Topley in the first match. It appears unlikely that Rehan will play due to his illness, but the team is predicted to rotate their players throughout the tour.
No other team has been able to beat Bangladesh in a home series since 2015, and England is hoping to be the one to do so. If they can win tomorrow's match, they will be the only team to twice win a bilateral ODI series in Bangladesh since 2015.
Change in Bangladesh Team
Just before the second ODI against England, there was a sudden addition to the Bangladesh ODI team. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) suddenly added Shamim Hossain Patwari to the team 18 hours before the match. This 22-year-old cricketer was brought in as a substitute fielder due to the probable injury of one cricketer.

Shamim, who has played 10 T20s for Bangladesh, has been called up to the first ODI team. Earlier, Shamim was also included in the first two T20 teams against the English. The second one-day team now has 15 members. The team for the third ODI has not been announced yet.
However, Shamim’s performance was not very good in the last Dhaka Premier League, the domestic edition of the 50-over edition. He scored 285 runs at an average of 31.66 with 1 century and a fifty in 11 innings. But his main area of strength, the quick runs, was reflected in his strike rate (103.63).
But, the Chief Selector, Minhajul Abedin Nannu, explained to bdnews24.com that his batting was not a factor in Shamim’s selection to the team. Since there is a little concern about one team member's injury, Shamim may start as an extra fielder to help. As a fielder, however, Shamim has attracted attention in different ways. He has earned a reputation as one of the most talented fielders in the country.

Pitch and conditions
The team winning the toss might decide to bowl first due to the dew. This wouldn't be the worst choice in Dhaka, as the ball will still have a bit of unpredictable bounce and spin in the daytime. Fortunately, the weather is still dry, although it is becoming increasingly warm.
Final Words
Bangladesh-England has played a total of 22 matches against each other in one-day cricket. The English have succeeded overwhelmingly, winning a total of 18 matches, while Bangladesh have only achieved success in four.
After a disappointing performance in the first game, Bangladesh is in a do-or-die situation at the Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on March 3. Bangladesh will have to win the second ODI of the BAN vs ENG series 2023 in order to stay in contention. England, on the other hand, is looking to secure the series.

England aim to seal series against Bangladesh in second ODI
England will look to clinch the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh when they face off in the second ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Friday.
The visitors won the first ODI by three wickets on Wednesday, posing a threat to end Bangladesh’s seven-year-old unbeaten run at home in the ODI series.
Dawid Malan’s unbeaten century steered England to a smooth victory that seemed difficult on the challenging Mirpur pitch. Malan, who has plenty of experience playing in Bangladesh, assessed the situation well and delivered what England required.
Both teams will be hoping for better batting performances in the second ODI, as they struggled to cope with the disciplined bowling from both sides. Bangladesh were bowled out for 209 overs, with only Najmul Hossain Shanto hitting a fifty.
Shanto reached his maiden ODI half-century but fell soon after, playing a loose shot. The left-hander will be keen to convert his starts into big scores and cement his place in the middle order.
England also lost wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 103-5 at one stage. Malan held the innings together with a mature knock and found support from Will Jack (26), Moeen Ali (14) and Adil Rashid (17 not out). The left-hander hit eight fours and four sixes and smothered Bangladesh’s charge with his calmness under pressure.
England captain Jos Buttler praised Malan’s innings and said he was pleased with the team’s performance.

“It was a fantastic knock from Dawid Malan. He showed great composure and skill. It was a great win for us. We showed great character and fight,” he said after the match.
Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal rued the lack of runs on the board and said his team need to bat better in the second ODI.
“We were probably 20-25 runs short. We lost too many wickets in clusters. We need to bat better as a unit,” he said in the post-match presentation.
Bangladesh are likely to stick with the same XI that played in the first ODI, unless they opt to replace underperforming Mustafizur Rahman with any of Ebadot Hossain and Hasan Mahmud.
The pitch is expected to be similar to the one used in the first ODI, offering some assistance to both seamers and spinners. Dew could play a factor in the evening and prompt the team winning the toss to bowl first. The weather is forecasted to be dry but getting warm.
Analysis of BAN vs ENG 1st ODI 2023
England won the first match of the BAN vs ENG ODI series 2023. Dawid Malan scored a match-winning century. However, there were a few others who had good performances in the match. While Najmul Hossain Shanto got his fifty, the all-round performance was from Adil Rashid, and Moeen Ali was also very dependable for England. On the other hand, Taskin Ahmed, Taijul Islam, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s bowling kept Bangladesh in the match for a long time.
Analysis of Bangladesh vs England 1st ODI 2023
Bangladesh and England met in Dhaka's Mirpur on Wednesday. Bangladesh won the toss and choose to bat in this day-night match. Bangladesh batsmen scored 209 runs by batting at the beginning. In reply, England secured victory with eight balls in hand.
Bangladesh’s Senior Batsmen Failed to Collect Big Score
Bangladesh’s batting was not up to the mark at Mirpur Sher Bangla Stadium. The host batsmen could not make any impact against the English bowlers. Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid, in particular, gave Bangladeshi batsmen a tough time. England's fast bowlers delivered a top-notch performance from the very beginning, with Jofra Archer achieving speeds of up to 150 kmph even on the slow Mirpur pitch.
England's three fast bowlers took five wickets together. The remaining five wickets were taken by the spinners. From the beginning, Bangladesh batted slowly on a slow wicket. Bangladeshi batsmen gave 41 dot balls in ten overs despite crossing thirty in the first four overs.

After a long time, Bangladesh got a chance to play ODI against England in home conditions. Tamim Iqbal won the toss and took the batting at Mirpur Stadium. Litton (7) was lbw after missing the line of the ball of Mark Wood's off swing when Bangladesh scored 33 runs. After that, the Bangladesh team seemed to lose rhythm.
Bangladesh was under pressure after losing four top-order batsmen for 106 runs. From there, Nazmul Hossain Shanto managed a 53-run partnership with Mahmudullah on the fifth wicket. However, Shanto failed to face Adil's googly and left after giving up the catch. Shanto brought up the first half-century of his ODI career, and he scored 58 runs off 82 balls.
Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah Riyad, and Mushfiqur Rahim- none of them could perform well. Shakib batted at number five and was bowled while hitting a silly shot. Tamim Iqbal was bowled by Mark Wood at 149 kmph. Mushfiqur Rahim scored just 16 runs off 34 balls before being dismissed. Mahmudullah Riyad was stopped at 31 runs. Najmul Hossain Afif Hossain and Mehdy Hasan Miraz scored under 10 run.
All in all, the Bangladesh team could not score more than 209 runs. 240-250 runs could have been quite effective in Mirpur to fight on this wicket. There is definitely regret in the dressing room.

England’s Batting
After the batting failure, the Bangladesh team was already behind in the match. On top of that, Dawid Malan's incredible innings put extra pressure on Bangladesh. Malan has long experience playing in Bangladesh conditions. As a result, this English batter took the opportunity of the familiar condition very well. He leads England to victory by picking up the fourth century of his career. With his 114 runs from 145, England easily overcame the 210 runs.
England lost five wickets for 103 runs. But one end of the wicket was held by Dawid Malan, who started batting after one wicket. Malan did not give any chance to the Bangladeshi bowlers after getting a chance to bat in 'familiar' conditions. He came to play Dhaka Premier League for the first time in 2013. Played for Prime Doleshwar for two consecutive seasons. He has experience playing for Comilla Warriors, Comilla Victorians, and Khulna Titans in BPL.
As a result, this batter is well-known about the condition of Mirpur, and he took that opportunity. Where other batters struggled, Malan has been slow. His unbeaten 114 won the match for England. Malan scored his fourth career century in 134 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes. After playing 11 more balls, he left the field without losing his wicket. Malan made an unbroken partnership of 51 runs off 59 balls with Adil Rashid on the eighth wicket.

Spin Friendly Wicket
Despite the failure in batting, the relief for Bangladesh is the performance of the bowlers. Only Mustafizur Rahman could not show his class. He was wicketless for 42 runs in 8 overs. There was a lot of discussion about Taijul's chance on the team. He poured water on that discussion with 3 wickets. He is the best bowler on the team, with 3 wickets for 54 runs. The inclusion of Taijul Islam in the team gave a hint that Bangladesh would try to win with the spin attack in the first ODI.
Off-spinner, Miraz took two wickets for 35 runs. Shakib and Taskin Ahmed were outstanding. Taskin took one wicket for 26 runs in 9 overs. Shakib took one wicket for 45 runs. Taskin Ahmed has maintained his form in the ODI format. He controlled the bowling from the beginning. While Mirpur's wicket is known for its slowness, Taskin has acquired speed and swing. He took Jos Buttler’s with 26 runs in nine overs.
Among the English bowlers, Jofra Archer, Moeen Ali, Adil, and Wood took two wickets each. Besides, Will Jacks and Chris Woakes took one wicket each.

Before starting the series, the cricket community was abuzz with Bangladesh’s dressing room issue. However, keeping all the allegations aside, Tamim Iqbal's team went into bat against England in the first ODI with the hope of winning the game. But Bangladesh lost the game to Dawid Malan. Though Bangladesh was defeated by England in the first ODI of the 2023 BAN vs ENG series, it is expected by the fans that the tigers will turn back in the next match.
Shanto laments Tigers batting collapse as England snatch victory in ODI opener
Despite a maiden half-century from Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh fell to a three-wicket loss in the first ODI of their three-match series against England Wednesday (March 01, 2023) due to a lacklustre performance in the middle overs.
The left-handed batter's impressive knock went in vain as the rest of the team failed to support him in building a solid total. Bangladesh's innings ended with a below-par 209, leaving them with a tough task to defend against a strong England side.
Tamim Iqbal and Litton Das put on a brief opening stand, but things soon took a turn for the worse as Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim also failed to deliver.

"I think losing three quick wickets in the middle overs was the main reason behind our defeat," Shanto said in the post-match press conference. "We have a good bowling attack that can defend this sort of total, but we failed today."
Shanto also said the team fell short of 20-30 runs in their innings.
The second match of the series will also take place in Dhaka's Mirpur on March 3 at the same venue; the third and final match will be played on March 6 in Chattogram.

Bangladesh all out for 209; Shanto hits 50
In the first ODI of the three-match cricket series against England, Bangladesh struggled to build momentum and were eventually all out for 209 runs, with Najmul Hosssian Shanto being the only player to score a half-century for the hosts in Mirpur.
Despite winning the toss and opting to bat first, Bangladesh got off to a shaky start as their opening partnership between Tamim Iqbal and Litton Das produced just 33 runs before Litton was dismissed for 7. Tamim was unable to maintain a steady pace and also fell shortly after.
The pace bowling duo of Mark Wood and Chris Woakes proved to be formidable for the Bangladesh openers.
Later, the responsibility of steering Bangladesh to a competitive total fell on Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan. However, both players were dismissed in quick succession, with Mushfiqur only managing to score 17 runs off 33 balls.
Mushfiqur's dismissal came as he attempted a slog sweep off a well-tossed-up delivery from Adil Rashid, only to be caught out easily by Mark Wood at deep mid-region.
Shakib Al Hasan was also dismissed in a similar fashion, but he failed to make contact with the ball during his attempted slog sweep, resulting in his stumps being dismantled by Moeen Ali.
Najmul Hossain Shanto provided some stability for Bangladesh, scoring his first ODI half-century by the 31st over.

However, Shanto was unable to convert it into a century and fell short at 58 runs. All-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad was the second-highest scorer for Bangladesh with 31 runs off 48 balls, although he never looked comfortable at the crease.
Mark Wood was the standout performer for England, taking two wickets for 35 runs in eight overs, while Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, and Adil Rashid also claimed two wickets each.

Tamim-Shakib Clash: How ready Bangladesh are to face England
The England national team is ready to compete in three 'One Day Internationals' and three Twenty20 matches. The first match is scheduled to take place on March 1. Right before the series, there was speculation surrounding a clash between Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan. This raises a question about Bangladesh’s preparation and rhythm in the team before the BAN vs ENG ODI Series 2023.
Tamim Shakib Clash
Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal are two influential stars in the country's cricket based on performance and seniority. The environment of the team's dressing room also depends on them. Ahead of the upcoming England series, everyone is dreaming about the series win. But if the internal environment of the team is not good, it is sure to affect the match. That is why the Shakib-Tamim relationship is again in discussion. Board President Nazmul Hasan Papon has also opened up about this.
The rivalry between Shakib and Tamim has intensified in recent times. Both Shakib and Tamim appeared at an event a couple of weeks ago. But they were not seen talking to each other there, which did not escape the attention of Tiger fans. After that, the issue became a topic of discussion on social media. However, the relationship between the two is not unknown to Papon. He also tried to solve it.

Speaking to sports media, Cricbuzz, the BCB President, said the Bangladesh team’s dressing room environment is not good due to grouping issues. And the clash between Tamim and Shakib works as a catalyst for that. However, BCB president Papon has spoken to both of them and understands that it is not easy to resolve the issues between them at this moment.
Nazmul Hasan Paonon conveyed that we don't know what is going on between them, but in the match or series, their personal problem should not affect the field performance. Later they both promised to comply.
The relationship between Shakib and Tamim has been quite bitter for a long time. They talk to each other on the field if needed. But it is limited to the field. There is not a word between the two outside the field. And Bangladeshi cricketers are also facing trouble because of this. However, Tamim assured that these issues would have any effect on the field.

How Ready Are Bangladesh Squad to Face England?
Right before the England-Bangladesh series, Papon pointed out the grouping issue inside the Bangladesh cricket team. And this grouping is currently the biggest problem in Bangladesh cricket, and this is the reality. Other than that, everything seems to be fine.
This issue raises the question that whether the Bangladesh team are ready to give their best against England. Well, Bangladesh cricket team captain Tamim Iqbal is hopeful for a series win.
Left-handed opener Tamim did not directly deny the issue of his relationship with Shakib. However, he claims that it has no effect on the team. He emphasized that nothing else matters except what takes place during the game. ODI captain Tamim has clearly said that everything is fine on the field; it doesn't matter what happens outside the field. At a press conference prior to the England series, Tamim made such a claim.

However, Tamim denies the grouping issue. He pointed out that whenever the team did not play well, some people rumored the grouping issue. But he didn't see grouping in the teams even 16 years ago. He didn't see it even 10 years ago.
However, he has not been with the team for the last 6 months. But he claims that he still sees everyone doing well and doesn’t see groupings within groups. Hence, the Bangladesh team is ready to face England.
To support his claim, Tamim talked about the result of the recent series of Bangladesh, as the team won most of the games. He also claimed that, When Shakib and Tamim take the field, if they both give their best, nothing else matters.

Bangladesh’s most recent win was the series at home against India in December, although Tamim Iqbal did not play. Last year, Bangladesh won the ODI series against Afghanistan, South Africa, West Indies, and India, only losing a series against Zimbabwe. So, it is expected that the Bangladesh team will continue their good performance.
Bottom Line
Bangladesh's ODI squad has already started training under Chandika Hathurusingha, who is back as the coach of Bangladesh for the second time. However, Shakib Al Hasan has not joined the training yet due to a family issue. Although there are various discussions about the relationship between Shakib and Tamim, the two biggest stars of Bangladesh cricket at this moment, the impression of that relationship was not seen on the field.
Rather, Shakib and Tamim were seen talking or celebrating the team's victory at various times on the field. Even in the last match of the three-match series against South Africa in 2022, Shakib and Tamim hugged each other and left the field smiling after securing victory by the wicket.

New Zealand edge England by 1 run in test cricket thriller
New Zealand completed a dramatic fightback on the last day to beat England by 1 run Tuesday and become only the fourth team in history to win a cricket test after being forced to follow-on.
On a day of constant twists and turns, Joe Root scored 95 in a partnership of 121 with Ben Stokes (33) which appeared to have secured England’s victory and a 2-0 win in the two-match series.
Root and Stokes were out within a run of each other with 56 runs still needed and the match which had been heading England’s way tilted back in favor of New Zealand with seven wickets down and the lower-order exposed.
Wicketkeeper Ben Foakes then made 35, facing down the New Zealand attack and shepherding the tailenders to guide England within sight of victory. But in another twist, Foakes was out with seven runs still needed.
Last man James Anderson clubbed a four down the ground which left England two runs from a match and series victory and the crowd holding its collective breath. Then in the last, dramatic moment, Anderson was caught down the leg side by a diving Tom Blundell from the bowling of Neil Wagner.
In a defining comeback for Wagner and his short-pitch bowling, he took 4-62, dismissed Root and Stokes and held three catches on the final day to seal New Zealand’s narrowest test win.
England twice and India once are the only other teams to have won a test after having to follow. The last occasion was in 2001 when India beat Australia by 171 runs at Eden Gardens.

The result also ended England’s run of six consecutive test wins and leveled the two-match series, allowing New Zealand to avoid its first defeat in a home series since 2017. The New Zealanders were heavily beaten in the first test and were again well behind in the game after the first innings in Wellington.
“It’s a special win this and we’ll celebrate what is an amazing achievement,” Wagner said. “I think it’s just the character of the team. We love to fight for one another, find a way and keep on doing the hard yards out there.
“The first test we didn’t get on the right side of it and they played well. I thought they played really wellin the first innings here in really tough conditions but we just found a way of contributing and get in a good position and (this) is a special one.”
The grassy banks of Wellington’s Basin Reserve were crowded on a workday Tuesday to see the denouement of an already extraordinary match.
For the second time in the series, Stokes made an assertive first innings declaration with England 435-9. England then bowled out New Zealand for only 209 to take a 226-run first innings lead.
Stokes chose to enforce the follow-on with his attack having bowled 53.2 overs and the second innings became an ordeal as Kane Williamson made 132 and New Zealand batted more than 160 overs to post 483, setting England 258 to win.
England came into the final day at 48-1, still needing 210 runs but with the odds on its side and 103 overs in the day. Under Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum and the so-called Bazball approach to the game, England has won six tests while chasing, notably scoring 378 to beat India at Birmingham last year.

But when New Zealand took four wickets in the first hour of an extended first session, the equilibrium of the match was disturbed. England lost nightwatchman Ollie Robinson, opener Ben Duckett then Ollie Pope and Harry Brook to consecutive deliveries to slip to 80-5 with 178 still needed.
Brook’s wicket was crucial after he made 186 in the first innings for his fourth century in five tests. Root was the guilty party in his dismissal Tuesday, taking a hazardous single and running out Brook before he’d faced a ball.
Root and Stokes seemed to have repaired the England innings. Root was the aggressor, reaching his 57th test half century from only 51 balls, while Stokes seemed restricted by an injury to his left knee and made his 33 from 116 balls.
But Wagner’s double blow to dismiss them both in consecutive overs likely was the turning point of the match. Foakes’ diligent innings ensured a thrilling finish as the upper hand in the match passed moment by moment from one team to the other. Even England’s Barmy Army of fans was largely rendered silent as they watched the action in almost breathless tension.
“It’s obviously very disappointing to get a loss here with the great winter we’ve had,” Stokes said. But “to be able to come away and win four out of five away from home is something we’ll take great pride in. We’ve got a few months off before the Ashes (series against Australia) starts and hopefully we can get back to doing what we love doing.” ___ More AP cricket: https://apnews.com/hub/cricket and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Shakib joins team camp ahead of England series amidst rift with Tamim
Bangladesh's all-rounder and captain of the Test and T20 team, Shakib Al Hasan, has joined the national team camp ahead of the three-match ODI series against England. The series is set to begin on March 1 in Dhaka.
Shakib was spotted batting at the indoor facilities in Mirpur, with Tamim Iqbal also present in the nets. Although they were batting close to each other, there were no visible interactions between them.
The team began preparations for the upcoming England series a few days ago, but Shakib was unable to join the camp earlier as he was with his family in the USA. Before his trip to the USA, he was playing for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League. However, he had to leave the Zalmi squad due to family issues.
The strained relationship between Shakib and Tamim has garnered attention from Bangladesh's cricket followers in recent days, particularly after BCB president Nazmul Hasan publicly acknowledged it.

Tamim faced questions about the issue at a press conference on Sunday in Mirpur, but Shakib has not made any statement about it yet.
Tamim said when he and Shakib take the field wearing a Bangladesh jersey, they only focus on playing well for Bangladesh; nothing else matters to them. He, however, did not deny the authenticity of a troubled relationship with Shakib.
In the upcoming series, along with three ODIs, both the teams will lock horns in a three-match T20I series.
The ODI series is a part of the World Cup Super League. England are currently at number three in the points table while Bangladesh are at number six.
British High Commission hosts England, Bangladesh cricket teams ahead of series
British High Commission in Dhaka has hosted a reception to celebrate the England men’s cricket team’s visit to Bangladesh and the upcoming ODI and T20I cricket series between England and Bangladesh.
Players from both Bangladesh and England cricket teams, along with technical and coaching staff attended the reception.
British Deputy High Commissioner Javed Patel welcomed guests.
He said, “I am delighted to see the England cricket team, as reigning ODI and T20I world champions, visiting Bangladesh in 2023 for what I know will be an exciting series."
