Three killed in Jashore road crashes
Three men were killed in different road crashes in Jashore Sunday after a motorcycle and a car crashed into trees, police said.
The deceased were identified as Khokon, 35, of the Kazipara area, Shimul Hossain, 30, of the Post Office Para area, of Jashore town, and Arman, 35, of Sector 6 of the suburb.

"Shimul, who was going to Chanchra from Dharmatala on his motorcycle, ran into a roadside tree while making way for a pedestrian. He died from the impact of the crash," Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tajul Islam said.
"Also, Khokon and Arman died at the scene after their car veered off the road and hit a tree at Manoharpur on the Jahsore-Magura road," he added.
Biker, pillion rider dead in Kushtia road accident
A biker and his pillion rider were dead as the motorcycle carrying them collided with a trolley in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as motorcycle rider Irfan, 34, and Ashiq, 24, of the district.

The accident occurred around 9:30 pm when the motorcycle collided with the goods-laden trolley in Shyamnagar market area of the upazila, leaving the duo seriously injured, said Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mojibur Rahman.
They succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital, he added.
The bodies were sent to Kushtia General Hospital morgue.

Police seized the trolley. However, the driver fled the scene immediately, said the OC.
Road accidents in Kurigram, Savar leave 5 killed, 5 injured
At least 5 people were killed and 5 were injured in road accidents in Kurigram and Savar on Saturday morning.
In Kurigram, three people died and five were injured in two accidents that took place in Trimohini area of the Kurigram-Rangpur road and on Phulbari-Dharla road in Phulbari upazila.
According to police and locals, at around 8 am, a dhaka-bound bus of Aman Paribahan lost control and hit an auto-rickshaw and a nearby grocery store. The accident left the passenger of the auto-rickshaw and a passerby dead on the spot.
One of the deceased is Md Abdul Hannan, 45, but the identity of the other could not be ascertained.
Five injured passengers were admitted to Kurigram General Hospital. Abdus samad, one of the injured, was later transferred to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital due to critical condition.
Confirming the matter, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kurigram Sadar Police Station, Zahid Hasan, said they seized the bus after recovering the dead bodies. The bus driver was sent to Rangpur for treatment.

In another incident, a tractor helper, Shariful Islam, 16, fell off the tractor as the driver suddenly hit the brake.
According to locals, the teenager was in a critical condition as he was run over by a truck.
Shariful later died after being taken to the hospital.
Confirming the matter, Sarwar Parvez,In-charge (Investigation) of Phulbari Police Station, said legal action will be taken in this regard.
In Savar, two people were killed when a bus hit a motorbike at the Noyarhar area on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway.
According to Savar highway police, the accident left one person dead on spot. Another passenger later died after being taken to the hospital.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be known.

Two dead in Kalabagan road accident
At least two people were killed and two others also injured as a speeding covered van ran over some rickshaws in Russell Square area under Kalabagan police station of the capital early Wednesday.
However, identities of the casualties could not be ascertained immediately.
Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Kalabagan police station, said the accident happened around 12.30am when the speeding covered van ran over the rickshaws after its driver lost control on steering nearby traffic police box in Russell Square area, leaving the duo dead on the spot and two others injured.

The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where they have been undergoing treatment, he said.
Though the covered van could be detained its driver and helper managed to flee, the OC added.

709 killed, 840 hurt in accidents in November
As many as 709 people were killed and 840 others injured in 668 accidents that occurred on road, railways and waterways in November across the country, according to the Passenger Welfare Association of Bangladesh.
Among the casualties, 643 people were killed and 826 injured in 586 accidents on roads and highways during the period from November 1 to November 30. Besides, 51 people were killed and four others injured in 64 accidents on the railway while 15 people were killed, 10 others injured and seven people reported missing in 18 accidents on the waterways during the same period.
Passenger Welfare Association of Bangladesh, a non-government organisation, compiled the report based on published news of various national dailies, online news portals and mass media, said a press release on Tuesday.

The group identified several reasons behind most of the accidents. Among them, dangerous overtaking, reckless speed, unfit vehicles, lack of footpaths or grabbed footpaths, sudden entrance of vehicles from feeder roads at railway crossings and highways, increasing number of small vehicles.
Besides, lack of service lanes on various national and regional highways, easy bikes, rickshaws, autorickshaws come down from various feeder roads on national and regional highways were the other reasons, it said.

Three of a family killed in Madaripur road crash
A man and his two nephews were killed as their tractor overturned and fell into a canal on Saturday evening in Madaripur.
The deceased were identified as Jahirul Islam, 22, son of Jalil Farazi, and his nephews Jobayer Howlader, 10, and Zihad Howlader, 7, sons of Kalu Howlader from South Madra in Sadar upazila.
The accident occurred when they were returning home after ploughing their land and Jahirul was trying to take the vehicle up a high road and it overturned.

Locals rescued and took them to Madaripur Sadar Hospital where the doctor announced them dead on arrival, said Md Monwar Hossain Chowdhury, officer-in-Charge of Madaripur sadar police station.
Woman dies after getting dragged along road in horrific road crash in DU area
A woman has died after being struck and then dragged along the road underneath a private car in the Dhaka University campus area.
The victim was identified as Rubina Akter(45). She was a housewife whose husband passed away two years ago and she left behind a son.
The incident took place around 3pm when a private car struck a motorcycle in front of the National Museum at Shahabag.

The woman who was a passenger on the bike fell off it, and got entangled between the tires as she slipped underneath the car, which dragged her in that state till the Nilkhet intersection.
People stopped the car from going further on noticing what was happening. The woman was brought out from underneath the vehicle in critical condition, while an agitated mob resorted to thrashing the driver and vandalising his car.
Later, police came and took both the badly-injured woman and the driver to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The woman died while undergoing treatment, confirmed DMCH police camp In-charge Bacchu Mia.
Rubina Akter's brother-in-law Nurul Amin told UNB that she was going with him to her sister's house in Hazaribagh from Tejgaon on motorcycle.

"When we reached in front of Shahbagh museum, a private car hit us from behind and dragged her till Nilkhet intersection from Shahabag," he said.
"I was shouting from behind to stop the car but the driver didn’t hear me," he added.
Zafor Shah, the driver of the private car, is a former associate professor of Dhaka University's International Relations(IR) department.
Contacted, OC of Shahabag police station Noor Mohammad said, "We have seized the private car but no case has been filed yet."
Three killed in Chandpur road accident
Three people were killed after a head-on collision between a bike and a trolley on Beribadh road in Bagan Bari union of Chandpur’s Matlab North upazila on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Shanto Miazi, 25, son of Abdur Rashid Miazi from Khaguria village of the union, Md Rashed, 24, son of Selim Bokaul from the same village and Selim Mia, 30, son of Abid Ali from Chandrakandi village of the union.
According to locals, Shanto, Rashed and another youth named Tanvir were going towards Khaguria from Beltoli on a bike, while a trolley was heading from the opposite direction.
“The collision happened on the Beribadh road in front of Hapania Bhuiyan Bari, leaving the trio on the bike and the helper of the trolley critically injured. Rashed died on the spot, while Shanto and Selim were declared dead by on-duty doctors when they were taken to the Upazila Health Complex,” said Hridoy Hossain, a local.

Md Mohiuddin, Officer In-charge (OC) of Matlab North Police Station, said that police couldn’t bring Rashed’s body to the hospital due to the insistence of his family members.
“Bodies of Shanto and Selim are currently in the morgue. Tanvir has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment. The driver of the trolley has fled after the accident, while the vehicles have been completely damaged. We’ll take legal actions after investigating the incident,” Mohiuddin said.
Two bikers killed in Chandpur road accident
Two youths on a bike were killed in a head-on collision with a speeding battery-run autorickshaw in Chandpur's Matlab Uttar on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Hossain,22,son of Rustam Ali of Dakshin Toraki village Salahuddin,21, son of Mohsin Mia of the same village in the upazila.
The accident occurred around 6pm when the battery-run autorickshaw crashed into the bike coming from the opposite direction in Bhati Rasulpur area, leaving the duo severely injured, said Md Mohiuddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Matlab Uttar police station.

They were rushed to Matlab Uttar Health Complex where doctors declared the duo dead on arrival, added the OC.
No complaint in this regard yet to file, said the OC, adding that the bodies of the two were taken away from the spot by their family members.
5 killed, 15 injured in Gopalganj, Gaibandha road crashes
Five people including an elderly woman and a minor girl were killed and 15 others injured in road accidents in Gopalganj and Gaibandha disyrcts on Thursday night and Friday.
Abu Nayeem Md Mofazzel Hoque, inspector of Bhatiyapara highway police outpost in Kashiyani of the Gopalganj, said a Tungipara-bound bus of ‘Imad Paribahan’ from Dhaka rammed into a sand-laded truck parked in Gopinathpur area under sadar upazila around 11pm, leaving the trio dead on the spot and 15 others injured.
The deceased were identified as Ashik, 25, son of Asaaduzzaman of Tungipara upazila in the district, Sohag, 30, son of Abdur Rahman of Boalmari upazila in Faridpur, Nizamuddin Sardar, 60, son of Alauddin Sardar of Gopalganj Sadar upazila.

On information, members of police and fire service rushed to the spot and sent the injured to Gopalganj General Hospital , he added.
Of the deceased, Ashik was the bus’s supervisor; Sohag was the truck driver while Nizamuddin was the bus passenger.
In Gaibandha, a Gaibandha-bound bus of Al Riyad Paribahan hit Gaibandha-bound bus of Al Riyad Paribahan knocked down a woman and her drandchild, said Maidul Islam, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Gaibandha Sadar Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Sabina Begum, 45, wife of Ashraful Islam of Boulerpara village in Betkapa union under Gaibandha’s Palashbari upazila and her granddaughter Tiya Moni, 5.
According to locals, Sabina used to work at a hotel.
