Worker dies from electrocution in city
A worker died of electrocution while working in a building in the city’s Ajimpur area on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Salauddin, 28, son of Abu Mia from Kamrangirchar.

Slauddin got electrocuted while working with a drill machine in a building at China building lane in Lalbagh area around 8:30 am, said Alauddin, Salahuddin,s cousin.
He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in an unconscious condition where a doctor announced him dead, said inspector Md Bacchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost. The body was sent for an autopsy, he said.

Trucker stabbed dead in city
A truck driver was stabbed to death allegedly by muggers in Demra area of the capital early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Saiful Islam, son of Fazlul Haque of Mendipur Uttarpara in Demra.
Quoting family members, police said Saiful used to drive his own truck.
Police found him wounded in Demra area and took him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 5 am, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the hospital police camp.

“He had no enmity with others. Muggers stabbed him in his abdomen at night and snatched away Tk 10,000-15000 from his possession,” said Saiful’s uncle Mostaq Ahmed while talking to police.
Efforts are on to arrest the culprits, said police.

Dhaka highrise fire doused, no casualties
A fire that broke out at a 14-storey building in the city’s Green Road area on Friday morning, has been doused, officials said.
The blaze started around 10.30am at the sixth floor of RS Tower and soon spread to other parts of the building.

"Four firefighting units managed to control the flames around 11.22 am. The fire was completely doused at 11.40 am," said Rashed, duty officer at Fire Service and Civil Defence HQ control room.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the fire, he said. "A probe has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause of the fire," the officer added.

3 held in the city for abduction and murder
The Detective Branch has arrested three individuals for abduction and murder and recovered a body in the city.
The deceased was identified as Nurul Amin of Darussalam area.
The arrestees are Md Ariful Islam, Md Imran Hossain and Md Yamin Mollah.
Mirpur zonal team of DB arrested them on Tuesday during separate raids in Darussalam, Mirpur Model Thana and Shahali areas.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mirpur zonal team Md. Saiful Islam said that on January 2, at 11.30 pm, Nurul Amin went missing from the Darussalam area. His uncle was called from his phone asking for Tk 1 crore ransom money. The victim's uncle filed a kidnapping case at Darussalam police station in this regard.

The Mirpur zonal team on the basis of shadow investigation tracked the abductors and arrested them. But they were too late to save Nurul Amin.
During the primary interrogation it was learned that the arrestees were acquaintances of the victim. They called him to Imran's rented house in Jahurabad area of Darussalam police station and suffocated him to death. The body was then dumped in the Jahurabad dam area.

Police later recovered the body according to the arrestees’ statement.
Truck helper killed falling off truck in city
A 30-year-old truck helper was killed falling from a truck at Nayabazar in the city early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Md Akhil Islam, son of Nurul Islam, of Kahalu upazila of Bogura.
Idris Ali, a co-worker of the deceased, said Akhil suffered severe injuries falling of a truck while fastening goods with a rope in front of Armanitola Market at Nayabazar.

Later, he was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead.
Mokhlesur Rahman, sub-inspector of Bangshal Police Station. said the body was kept at DMCH morgue for an autopsy.

Unidentified youth stabbed dead in the city
A young man was stabbed to death by a miscreant in the capital’s Bangshal area on Monday night.
The deceased could not be identified yet.

On information, the police recovered his body with a stab wound to the left side of his chest from the drain next to Sikkatuli Baitul Aman Jame Mosque at night and took him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMRC) where the on-duty doctor declared him dead at around 10 pm.

The body has been kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy, said police sources.
Police are trying to find out his identity and cause of the murder.
Slum in Chattogram city catches fire
A massive fire broke out at a slum in Debpahar area of Chawkbazar in Chattogram port city on Friday.
The fire broke out around 11 am, said Newton Das, Deputy Assistant Director of Chattogram Fire Service office, Agrabad.

“Seven firefighting vehicles from different units of the fire service rushed to the spot immediately after the fire broke out. It’s now almost under control," he said.

10 including Jamaat GS held in the city
Police have arrested 10 leaders and members of Jamaat-e-Islami from the capital’s Bashundhara residential area on Monday evening.Based on a tip-off, a team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested them while holding a secret meeting at an apartment in the area.The arrestees are- Jamaat-e-Islami's central secretary general (GS) Mia Golam Parwar; assistant secretaries general Rafiqul Islam Khan and Hamidur Rahman Azad; central executive committee members Abdur Rob, Izzat Ullah, Mubarak Hossain; former Chhatra Shibir central president Yasin Arafat and three Jamaat office employees.

ADC media of DMP Iftekhairul Islam said that acting on a secret tip, a team of DMP arrested the Jamaat-e-Islami members while they were attending a secret meeting in the city.Meanwhile, in an official statement after the incident, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman condemned and protested the arrest of the 10 members of the party and asked for their unconditional release.

Attack on Hasina’s motorcade: absconding convict held in city
Police have arrested a man who had been on the run since he was given a 10-year jail term for an attack on the motorcade of then-opposition leader Sheikh Hasina in Satkhira district.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s intelligence wing held absconding Arifur Rahman Ranju from the city’s Hazaribagh area on Friday.
Ranju, a former Chhatra Dal leader, confessed to leading a group of 50 people in carrying out the attack on Aug. 30 in 2002 at Kalaroa in Satkhira district. Sheikh Hasina was returning to Dhaka after attending a meeting in Kalaroa.

A court in Khulna held trial of the 50 attackers, including Ranju, in a case over attempt on the life of Sheikh Hasina, the current prime minister.
Detective Branch (DB) Additional Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akhter told reporters at DMP's media center on Saturday that Ranju started student politics in 1993 at Kalaroa College. He used to lead college Chattrd Dal.
After the investigation charge sheets were issued against 50 people. On February 3, the court sentenced Ranju to 10 years in jail. Ranju had been on the run ever since, he said.

The additional commissioner informed that Ranju would be taken to court at Satkhira Saturday to complete further legal procedures.
Fire breaks out at a bakery in city’s Nawabpur
A fire broke out Tuesday night at a bakery in old Dhaka’s Alu Bazar road in Nawabpur area.
Eight fire fighting teams managed to douse the flame at around 8:58 pm.
No casualties were reported in the incident.

According to fire service sources the fire broke out around 8:20 pm and the fire service teams reached the scene around 8:26 pm.
The origin of the fire and the extent of damages from it couldn’t be identified yet, said Raihanul Islam, station Officer (media) at Fire Service Headquarters.
