2 killed by lightning strikes in Thakurgaon
Two people were killed by lightning strikes in Pirganj and Ranishankoil upazilas of the district on Wednesday.
In Priganj upazila, Azimul Haque, 40, died on the spot as a thunderbolt struck him while he working in his field in the afternoon, said Golam Mostafa, chairman of Kosharaniganj union.
In another incident, Shanta Roy, 22, son of Tonkonath Ropy of Razadighi in Ranishankoil upazila, was killed as a streak of thunderbolt hit him while he was catching fish in a water body during rain, said sub-inspector of Ranishankoil Police Station Ahsan Habib.
Missing child found dead in Thakurgaon
Police on Sunday recovered the body of a child who went missing a day ago, from a pond in Bangatuli village of Baliadangi upazila.
The deceased was identified as Julfikar Hasan Joy, 12, son of Hazrat Ali of the village.
Officer-in-Charge of Baliadangi Police Station Hasibul Alam said Joy went out of his home on Saturday noon and remained traceless since then.
Later, his body was spotted floating in the pond, he said.
The body was sent to Sadar Hospital for autopsy, OC said.
Human chain demands PCR laboratory, ICU in Thakurgaon
A group of people formed a human chain at Chourasta in the district town on Thursday demanding installation of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) laboratory and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in local hospitals to ensure detection of Covid-19 patients.
Coronavirus: 165 people infected in four districts
A total of 165 people were infected with coronavirus in Sylhet, Kishoreganj, Barishal and Thakurgaon districts as of Saturday night.
In Sylhet, 66 Covid-19 patients were detected after testing samples of 184 people, said Dr Himangshu Lal Roy, assistant director of Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Among the infected people, 59 are from Sadar upazila, three each from Fenchuganj and Bianibazar upazilas and one from Goaingha upazila, he added.
So far 1,479 people have been infected with Covid-19 in Sylhet Division. Among those, 849 in Sylhet district, 270 in Sunamganj, 208 in Habiganj, and 152 in Moulvibazar, Dr Himangshu informed.
In Kishoreganj, 45 people were infected with coronavirus taking the total number in the district to 602, said Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mujibur Rahman on Saturday.
So far, 221 people have made full recovery in the district and 15 died from Covid-19 disease, he added.
2 unsuccessful SSC examinees ‘commit suicide’ in Magura, Thakurgaon
Two female students allegedly committed suicide in Magura and Thakurgaon districts on Sunday after failing the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations.
In Magura, Airin, 16, a madrasa student and daughter of Jahid Hossain, resident of Parvatpara village of Mohammadpur upazila, reportedly hanged herself around 7pm after receiving her result.
Confirming the matter, Tarek Biswas, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station said that an unnatural death case was filed.
In Thakurgaon, Lima Akhter, 16, daughter of Jahirul Islam of Tinua village of Haripur upazila, committed suicide by hanging herself t at her room.
Victim’s father Jahirul Islam, said that after returning from field, he and her wife found Lima hanging at noon.
Later, she was taken to Haripur health complex where doctors declared her death, said Md Amiruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Haripur Police Station.
Tortoise weighing a maund rescued in Thakurgaon
A tortoise weighing about one maund (roughly 37 kg) has been rescued from Tamlai area of Pirganj upazila of Thakurgaon.
2 sisters ‘raped’ in Thakurgaon; 5 held
Two sisters were raped by some youths at Mahalbari in Ranishankoil municipality area on Tuesday.
The victims are the resident of South Sandharai village in Ranishankoil upazila.
Police arrested five people from different parts of the upazila on Wednesday.
The arrestees are Zahirul, 28, son of Afaz uddin, Rubel, 26, son of Babul Mistri, Upen Deb, 28, son of Jotish Chandra, Fazlu, 35, son of Mohamamd Ali and Milon, 25, son of Shahidul in the upazila.
Abul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Ranishankoil Police Station, said Zahirul along with his associates took the two girls—one aged about 20 and another 15—to the house of Upen where they violated the girls in turns on Tuesday afternoon.
Later, the victims filed a case with Ranishankoil Police Station the following day.
After getting complaint police arrested the alleged rapists.
The victims were sent for medical tests.
2 killed in Thakurgaon road crash
Two people were killed when a truck hit a motorbike on Thakurgaon-Dinajpur road in Birganj upazila on Thursday night.
The deceased were identified as Shahiduzzaman Sumon, 40 of Alamnagar in Rangpur district and his sister-in-law Suborna, 24 of Nekmarad-Chandanhat village in Ranishankoil upazila.
The accident took place around 7 pm when the truck hit the motorbike carrying the duo while they were going to Ranishankoil upazila, leaving them dead on the spot, said Sub-inspector of Birganj Police Station Nitai Chandra Roy.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to a local hospital morgue.
Thakurgaon lawyer fined for conning man
A mobile court fined a lawyer Tk 10,000 for taking money from a vegetable vendor on a false promise of enrolling him in the government’s special rice sale programme for the poor.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah Al Mamun said the action was taken against Advocate Mamtajur Rahman Bipul, a resident of Asrampara in the district town.
The lawyer took Tk 2,500 from Alamgir Hossain, a vegetable vendor, promising to issue him a card for OMS (Open sale market) rice. But he did not provide the card, said UNO.
After getting complaint, a mobile court led by UNO, arrested Bipul and fined him.
4 doctors, 9 nurses sent to home quarantine in Thakurgaon
Four physicians and nine nurses of Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital were sent to home quarantine on Wednesday after a woman undergoing treatment at the hospital tested positive for coronavirus.
According to hospital sources, a pregnant woman from Dhaka got admitted to the hospital on April 14. She was suffering from fever and breathing problem.
Later, samples of the patient were sent to the PCR lab of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on April 18. Test results came out positive on April 21 but the women was discharged from the hospital on April 19 and went to Panchagarh district.
Dr Nadirul Aziz Chapal, supervisor of Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital, said four doctors and nine nurses were sent to home quarantine.
Their samples were taken for coronavirus testing, he said.
