10 Bangladeshis who illegally entered India, return via Benapole
Indian authorities on Thursday night sent back as many as 10 Bangladeshi nationals, who had illegally entered the neighbouring country because of economic opportunity.
The seven men and three women were handed over to the Benapole immigration police by India’s Petrapole immigration authorities at the Benapole land border.
The 10 people have been identified as Roksana, Mahmuda, Golap Mia, Sakib Hossain, Russel Mia, Ayesha, Nayeem, Khokon, Sagor and Saju, belonging to Khulna, Narail and Narsingdi districts.
Two NGOs -- Rights Jashore and Justice and Care -- later took the 10 men and women to their shelters.

“The victims went to India’s Bengaluru city illegally with the help of brokers in the hope of finding well-paid jobs. Later they all were arrested by police and sentenced to three years in jail by Indian courts," said Towfiq, field officer of Rights Jashore.
"An Indian NGO later kept them in their shelters after bailing them out. The victims were issued travel permits, following exchange of letters at both the country’s Home Ministry level," he said.
Officer-in-Charge of Benapole immigration check post, Ahsan Habib said that the 10 Bangladeshis would need to spend 14 days in institutional quarantine. "After the mandatory isolation period, they will be handed over to their families."

Cooperation between Bangladeshi, Indian startups to be mutually beneficial: Palak
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak and Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami Monday inaugurated the six-part webinar series, "Shoto Borsho Shoto Asha – Rise Up."
The Indian High Commission in Dhaka, Startup Bangladesh, Startup India, and the ICT Division of Bangladesh are jointly organising it.
The webinar series is also supported by Economic Reporters Forum, Bangladesh Startup Consortium and BD AIR.
Speaking at today's event, hosted by Startup Bangladesh Managing Director and CEO Tina Jabeen, Palak said: "Increased cooperation between the startups in Bangladesh and India will be mutually beneficial."
High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami said in the next six months, the RiseUp platform will bring together mentors, innovators, entrepreneurs and investors from India and Bangladesh.
He hoped that the platform will facilitate an effective cross-learning opportunity that will benefit talented entrepreneurs from both countries, especially young innovators.

Doraiswami also recalled that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited 50 Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to visit India and connect with the country's startup and innovation ecosystem during his state visit to Bangladesh in March 2021.
The high commissioner stressed that the RiseUp series could facilitate such linkages to jumpstart tangible cooperation.
Following the opening ceremony, a panel discussion on "StartUp Landscape in Bangladesh and India – Tech StartUps Transforming the Future" was held.
Yamini Bhushan Pandey, CEO of Startup Incubation and Acceleration Division at Indian School of Business and Sharad Sharma, co-founder of iSPIRT Foundation India and member of National Startup Advisory Council, were joined by Wasim Alim, co-founder and CEO of Chaldal, and Rahat Ahmed, CEO of Anchorless Bangladesh.

Monday's webinar will be followed by more discussions on the regulatory environment for startups, ways to overcome hurdles to create a successful startup, fundraising strategies, strategies for startups to go international and startup opportunities in Bangladesh and India.
304 enter through Benapole after fresh regulations
Some 304 people entered Bangladesh through Benapole in the last one week after the Home Ministry issued new criteria for entering the country on July 1.
However, the number of people entering Bangladesh declined significantly on Saturday, compared to Sunday and Thursday.
After 302 people entered the country from India on Sunday and Thursday, only 2 entered on Saturday.

Officer-in charge of Benapole Immigration Ahsan Habib confirmed the information to UNB.
Besides, 56 people, both Bangladeshi and Indian nationals, went to the other side of the border from Bangladesh during the last one week, he informed.

The Home Ministry on July 3 decided that stranded Bangladeshi nationals in India can enter the country through Benapole port on 3 days of the week, the days being Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Those looking to enter Bangladesh must carry with them an RT-PCR certificate (with a negative result) and NOC from the Bangladesh High Commission in India.
Bangladesh bags first-ever Maths Olympiad gold
For the first time ever, Bangladesh has bagged a gold medal in the Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad (APMO). The result was published on June 29.
Md Maruf Hasan, a student of Government Anandamohan College, Mymensingh, won the gold medal for Bangladesh in this year's competition. He won silver and bronze medals in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
Besides Maruf, Nuzhat Ahmed of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College and Adnan Sadiq of Notre Dame College won a bronze each, while six members of the Bangladesh team have been awarded special honours.
In this year's competition, a total of 344 students participated from 37 countries. With a total score of 96, Bangladesh ended up 21st with one gold and two bronze.

Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee (BDMO) announced the local edition of the mathematical olympiad in March this year. It was held at the Monem Business District Building in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka.
The APMO is held annually. Each participating country has a representative in charge of organising the APMO locally. A central committee selects a paper with five questions to be solved in four hours, sends marking schemes and determines award winners.

217 more stranded Bangladeshis return through Benapole
Another group of Bangladeshi nationals, who got stuck in India amid its lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus, returned home through Benapole on Tuesday.
