Body of Bangladeshi killed by BSF returned through Lalmonirhat border
The body of a Bangladeshi youth, who was shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Aunghorpota border in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat, was handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Sunday (January 28, 2024) night.
Patgram police station’s officer-in-charge (OC) Ferdous Wahid said Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed over the body of Rabiul Islam to the BGB through Tin Bigha Corridor in the upazila after an autopsy in India on Sunday night.

Later, the body was handed over to the victim’s family, he said.
Earlier on Sunday afternoon, a flag-meeting between the border forces of the two countries was held when the BGB condemned the killing.
Rabiul, 33, son of Afzal Hossain of Dangarpara village under Dahagram union of the upazila, was gunned down by the BSF along Jashore’s Benapole border on Sunday, within a week of killing a BGB member by them.

BGB's seized contraband in Dec 2023 worth over Tk 266 crore
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized arms, ammunition, drugs and other contraband items worth Tk 266.74 crore during anti-smuggling drives across the country, especially in bordering areas, in December 2023.
In November, BGB seized goods worth Tk 183.98 crore.

Other smuggled items include 11.643 kg gold, 5.200 kg silver, 1,70,589 sets of cosmetics, 1,358 pieces of imitation jewelry, 12,406 sarees, 7,971 three-pieces/shirts/sheets/ blankets/readymade garments, 3,864 cubic feet of wood, 17,127 kg tea leaves, 44,515 kg coal, 1 stone statue, 12 trucks, 3 buses, 7 pickups, 6 private cars/microbuses, 18 CNG-run auto-rickshaws/easybikes and 58 motorcycles.
Seized arms include nine pistols, two different types of guns, 13 magazines, one hand grenade, 20 kg gun powder, 12 kg explosive substances, 17.200 kg potassium nitrate, and 316 rounds of bullets.

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Tuesday arrested two individuals along with 23 gold bars, weighing 5.19 kg from Uthali in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga district.

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Wednesday recovered seven foreign pistols, 13 magazines and 293 rounds of bullets from two separate raids in Chakpara and Sonamasjid areas in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.
A woman was arrested during the raid. The arrestee was identified as Rumi Begum, daughter of Humayun Kabir of Paschim Chandipur village in Shibganj upazila, said 59 BGB Battalion Commander LT Col Golam Kibria.

Director General of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Maj Gen A K M Nazmul Hasan said that the force is ready to deal with any law and order situation centered on the upcoming elections.

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man along with 1.13 kgs of crystal meth, 3,000 Yaba pills, 20 kgs of current nets from a boat in the Naf River in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district early Wednesday.
The arrestee was identified as Md Rifat alias Bila, 21, son of Shamsul Alam of the upazila.
Tipped off, a team of BGB-2 conducted a drive in the area around 2:25 am and challenged a boat while crossing the border, said commanding officer of BGB-2 Lieutenant Colonel Md Mohiuddin Ahmed.
Later, the BGB men arrested Bila while another man managed to flee the scene.
After searching the boat, the BGB men seized the contraband items.

On February 25, 2009, several hundred Bangladesh Rifles (now BGB) men staged an armed revolt at the Darbar Hall of the force's Pilkhana headquarters during the three-day "BDR Week". They killed 74 people, including 57 army officers.
The mutiny ended the following day with the surrender of firearms, ammunition and grenades through a negotiation between the then government and the BDR rebels.
A total of 58 cases including one for murder and looting and the rest for mutiny were filed in connection with the incident.
Some 152 people were sentenced to death and 423 others to different jail terms in the killing case. Besides, 277 accused were acquitted in the country’s largest-ever killing case.
Among the convicts, 262 mutineers were sentenced to different jail terms starting from three months to 19 years and 161 people, including late BNP leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu and local Awami League leader Torab Ali, were sentenced to life imprisonment.
On the other hand, 5,926 BDR personnel were sentenced to different jail terms ranging from four months to seven years in the 57 mutiny cases.
Goods worth Tk131 crore seized in January: BGB
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Thursday said they seized goods, arms, and drugs worth Tk130.63 crore in January.
The seized items include 523,268 yaba pills, 3.169kg crystal meth, 14,617 bottles of Phensedyl, 22,728 bottles of foreign liquor, 133 litres of local liquor, 5,229 cans of beer, 2,501kg hemp, 8.832kg heroin, 19,289 stimulant injections, 10,947 Eskuf syrups, and 905 bottles of MkDil/Cofidil, Shariful Islam, public relations officer of the BGB headquarters, said.
Also, 31.628kg gold, 6.061kg silver, 162,109 cosmetics, 22,510 imitation jewellery, 10,789 sarees, 5,763 three-piece sets, blankets and shirt pieces; 2,712 pieces of readymade garments, 3,386 cubic feet of timber, 3,942kg Indian tea, 86,714kg coal, 1,074kg pesticide, two touchstone idols, 79 motorcycles, seven cars, 13 pickup vans, 20 CNG and battery-run auto-rickshaws were also seized.

The seized arms include two pistols, 22 guns, 130 rounds of ammunition, one mortar shell and 60mm mortar ammunition.
Also, legal action was taken against 198 smugglers, 52 Bangladesh nationals as well as seven Indian nationals for illegally crossing the border, Shariful said.
Man held with gold worth Tk 4.5cr along Lalmonirhat border
Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) claimed to have detained a person with 45 gold bars along the India border in the district on Tuesday.
Md Azizur Rahman, 58, is from Durgapur village under Aditmari upazila in the district, according to a press release signed by BGB-15 Commandant Lieutenant Colonel Mofazzal Hossain Akanda.
The battalion received a tip that a big consignment of gold was going to be smuggled to India through Kutichar border area under the Aditmari upazila.
As per the information, BGB men took up positions along the border and eventually challenged a person heading towards the border. But instead of cooperating, this man, who would turn out to be Azizur, tried to run away, and BGB gave chase.

The BGB personnel eventually detained Azizur and recovered the gold weighing around 5.249 kilograms from his body. The market value of the gold is estimated to be around Tk 4.5 crore. The gold bars were wrapped with cloth and tape.
Later, the detainee was handed over to the concerned police station where a process was underway to file a case in this connection, the BGB release added.
